Boathouse - Port Moody Ratings and Reviews
We made a reservation and were seated in a booth by the door and kitchen in the dining room. We didn’t like that but had no other choice. Our server was very good. The menu selection is boring especially the starters. The food is mediocre, and expensive the vegetables were undercooked. The Boathouse is advertised as a fine dining restaurant. It is ordinary. We won’t be back anytime soon.
Not super pleased with our last visit here. Had requested a private table and was initially seated in a busy, noisy area by the kitchen and a large party even though we could have been seated elsewhere. This was accommodated after we mentioned this.
Noted on the reservation it was a celebration. Server did not ask what the occasion was - perhaps they don't get this information when a reservation is made through this method?
Prime Rib is no longer served which is what one of us had planned on ordering.
It took way too long for the server to initially come to our table after we were seated. The restaurant was busy, but not full to capacity and no patrons waiting to be seated.
The server we had was good throughout the meal.
The steak meal was okay but the root vegetables lacked flavour.
The baby back ribs meal was average ( not impressed with the vegetable servings with this meal - more or less French fries and coleslaw).
Sorry but we won't be back.
The lobster bisque was more watery than last year's. The portion seems smaller.
We ordered a 1/2 bottle of wine, and the waitress waited until we finished the first course to tell us that there is no stock. After that, we had no mood for any more wine.
The waitress also did not check the bill and charged us an extra soup. Glad that we checked and found out.
Service was bad overall, even when it's not busy.
This location has traditionally been the franchise's 'problem child' with inconsistent service. Service was OK this time and our server Joshua was friendly and helpful throughout the evening. Note to managers: let your servers sample the menu items so that they can give meaningful advice to diners.
It's a large dining area but they seated everyone in one section which took away from the ambience and limited intimacy. Would have preferred if they spread diners out and then filled in the gaps that packing everyone in one section.
Reasonably diverse and affordable wine list. We were there for Lobster Fest and appreciated the staff's accommodating our request to split some of menu items to share. Lobster portions were good (we had the Atlantic AND Caribbean lobster tails and shared the two entrees)
We were there to celebrate a couple of anniversaries 'of sorts' and appreciated our server 'comping' the desert AND for the kitchen staff decorating the plate.
The staff redeemed some previous bad experiences so we will be back.
We went to the restaurant on my mother's birthday.
The food was delicious though a bit pricey, but it is ok for fine dining. We enjoyed perfectly cooked lobsters, swordfish and pasta, and deserts. The only big problem as I can see it is noise level which is really loud. We had to almost shout to each other during the conversation. This is basically the only drawback. Overall we were satisfied with experience.
To the owners of the restaurant: if you could reduce the noise level using some noise absorbing technologies, that would be great.
Beautiful sunset view, excellent patio dining as well, loved the large glass fireplace. Service was great. The gentlemen that brought us our bread and our water was even top of things, my glass was never empty. The fish was cooked to perfection and so was my date's steak. Thank you!
For a restaurant that was practically empty, we were shown to table in a corner.
We requested an alternate one by the window and were relucanty seated there.
Service was terribly slow. We never got asked or were served a bread basket.
Our shared appie came without side plates. Waited an eternity for the main meal.
It's a pity, as it's the only nice restaurant in the Tricity. Maybe they know that, and so it doesn't matter what the service is like. Request for a hot sauce? Feel on deaf ears .
Be a while before we go back.
We went to celebrate my husband’s birthday. At our reservation time, we were seated at a table that was in the middle of other large groups in the middle of the restaurant.
Our friend is hearing impaired so we requested another table tucked away in the corner so it would be easier for him to hear throughout the evening. There were many empty tables in the restaurant, so we didn’t see that it was a big deal. It clearly was a big deal to the hostess! She was clearly put out that we had asked to move. Her body language and curt responses clearly showed we had put her out in some way. Will not be back.
Service was spectacular as she was very attentive to special requests. Beautiful high ceiling and blazing fireplaces make the ambience lovely. I had the muscles which were okay. A little heavy on the garlic and they tasted not as fresh as I would have expected. In fact I wouldn’t let my friend use this as her first taste of mussels because they just weren’t good enough.
Our focus was on our group and the reunion we were having, so we were not so focused on the shortcomings on service, as lovely as our server was...unfortunately, drinks took an unusually long time to come to the table along with requests for water and refills and further unfortunately, for the same guest who was not very patient or pleased to have to ask repeatedly for those items. Otherwise the items from the special Lobsterfest menu were lovely and the ambiance at the Boathouse is always wonderful.
Wife's 70th birthday. Found service was slow considering there were only 4 people in the dining room. Ladies washroom not particularly clean. Entire restaurant needs a good dusting. Sun coming in upper windows showed a lot of dust higher up on the wall above the kitchen as well as the windows at table level. Had gone downhill since last visit.
Went for Thanksgiving dinner with a couple of family members. We had a 6:00pm reservation. The turkey dinner was disappointing. It seemed the top slice of meat was a turkey slice and the under piece seemed like it was pork with fat veins in it. The stuffing was dry, with parts of it actually slimy and mushy. The best part were the garlic mashed potatoes. They were excellent. The pumpkin creme brule was sold out. We ordered three but were only able to get two. Surprising as we were having an early dinner. Felt disappointed by the mediocre meal as well as mediocre service. We have been coming to this location since it was built. After our Thanksgiving experience we have decided to give up on the Port Moody location, as there is nothing special at this restaurant.
I took my friend from Winnipeg for her birthday. Chose this location for the view and was not disappointed. We have eaten at other Boathouse locations and had good experiences previously. We started with the seafood platter. Everything on the platter was over cooked which was obvious visually. We sent it back and manage agreed and offered to have his top chef replace. We declined. We ordered the chop chop salad and the lettuce was wilted from being in the dressing to long. The prawn and chicken bowl had flavour but the chicken and peppers over cooked. Not sure why top chef was not checking what is leaving the kitchen to ensure the quality of the food. Typically do not do reviews but we felt this to be just a disappointment we need to let the restaurant know and will be contacting them
Had a great time at boathouse! Foods are good and service is exceptional. A mexican fellow served us well, very friendly, helpful and cheerful. Spent extra time to take us pictures which I appreciate so much. Sorry i forgot his name... i will recommend boathouse to everyone!
Nice job overall. Initial greet was quite slow.... felt that a manager or a host could have remedied this... I am think our server had a large table. Nice table, nice ambiance. Food was quite good. All around very good. Did not ask me is I was a Landry Select member...
Service was great, food was good, views are lovely and a stroll through the park before or after dinner is a bonus. We had Maple Salmon (ok), Swordfish (ok) and Sirloin w/prawns (great). We were there for an early dinner (5:30) before the restaurant got too busy - once it started filling up the noise echoed a bit in the high ceilings making conversation more difficult. Tip for anyone going weeknights during rush hour - allow extra time to get across the bridge from St John's Street as the traffic was heavy; that 3 block stretch took us 15 minutes!
