Not the first time visiting the boat house but sadly what used to be a great place to visit for more of an upscale dinner in new west has gone down hill. Food was ok but not spectacular. Service was where they truly fell apart. Way to long between visits from the waitress and when we asked for our dessert - had opted for then salad and dessert for $10 it was easily 20min before our dessert showed up. When I asked the waitress what the delay was she said it was due to the kitchen being backed up as the restaurant was busy. Any kitchen that can’t handle the restaurant at capacity isn’t my problem.
In a nutshell. Save your time and money and head elsewhere.
Our waitress was great but the dessert was very late to a point where we just wanted to rush out. Although the waitress kept us up to date, the venue was not busy and a great amount of time was spent waiting.
One of the meals (oysters) had several additional sea creatures (mini crabs); albeit at no extra charge. Luckily our guest had a good attitude but was a bit disappointed.
If the waitress wasn’t a positive person, the service and food rating earned itself a rating of 1 out of 5.
Among the four of us, we were celebrating a birthday and an anniversary. The wait people were efficient and knowledgeable about the menu. The food came quickly and was delicious!! Our birthday person received a delicious complimentary dessert which we all shared (of course!). It was a lovely evening. Oh, a few more vegetarian items would be appreciated. Thank you.
We arrived at 6:30 and our waiter Chris took our drink orders & food orders. Our food was delivered and Chris did not come back to our table. Within an hour it was very busy and there were not enough staff to handle the tables. There were at least 4 tables with screaming children (probably younger than 4 years old. One person at our table had a steak that was so tough she couldn't cut it with a steak knife. They did give me $20.00 off the bill. The other 4 dinners were perfect and we enjoyed the seafood. We waited for 10 minutes at least for our bill. We asked 3 different people and were told Chris had to do this. When he had a moment to help us he had difficulties figuring out the credit card payment. Also the greeters when we arrived made no effort to welcome us. I know these days it is hard to find and keep good staff. I think Chris was doing his best but he just had too many tables to handle. In summary food was great service terribly lacking.
The Boathouse is in an ideal location on the Fraser River Quay. The “chop chop” seafood salad is both mine and my partners favourite. We had a great lunch.
We had a wonderful birthday brunch/lunch for my friend. The service was excellent.
The meal and service were very good, parking and access was a nightmare!
We love coming to Boathouse. It's great that it's super close to a Skytrain station so we don't have to worry about driving in. We were happy that Crab Fest was going on so we got to order from that menu which was nice. Also, it was my mom's birthday but I never told the server and she came out with cake anyway! I guess she found out because she has a Landry's card, but still the cake was a nice surprise!
I would have given this 10 out of 10 except for two things: (1) roasted potatoes with meal were NOT roasted, they were boiled. Big difference!!! I like crispy skin and (2) despite being told one of us was celebrating a birthday, no effort was made (no free slice of cake, no free champagne. I was rather surprised at that.
Everything excellent except for noisy party on nearby table.
I enjoyed the experience overall, but found my steak to be rather salty. The service was adequate but only satisfactory. As I did not receive great value, I will not be in a hurry to return to this location.
when we arrived for dinner at 430 the restaurant was empty with only 1 table of a couple ladies service was ever so slow
5 people with no appies and it took us almost 2 hours to have dinner?! I don’t know if it was the server or just the kitchen staff but we were getting very irritated.
I go to thpick keg on the regular and their service is on par and never are we there that long
Otherwise food was fine
I always bring my business clients here for a dinner and find the boathouse to be a favourite, that is liked and enjoyed by all; plus it showcases our seafood as the finest!!
Tonight, one of my guests had his meal delayed, due to a mishap in the kitchen. This was embarrassing for me as a host.
(The others had more than half of their meals eaten, and an entree like Tuna took the longest). :(
My wife and I went here for our Valentine’s Day dinner. The food was exquisite. I liked how the restaurant provides a set menu for the occasion. We enjoyed each component.
The place was packed with other dates and I understood servers were busy. Our server seemed like she didn’t want to be there. I had to flag another server to give us water since ours was hardly in our area. I ordered a cocktail drink and it was advertised that you can bring the glass home. When I asked the server if that was true as we were paying, her response was, “I don’t know. You can go ahead and it won’t bother me.” We ended up not bringing the glass with us.
I also didn’t like the lighting. It felt too dark where we sat. I would go there again for the food but hope the service and lighting improves!
I reserved table the day before and I specially asked for a ocean view side table as it was my date night. When My gf and I got there waitress gave not the ocean view side table but the construction site view table. I gently asked if I can move our table to the ocean view side. Return was “no, sorry all table were already booked.” I talked to the waitress that I also booked in advance so she when to talk to the host but still declined with no reason why. And finally by the time my gf and I finished our dinner and got the bill, a couple came to take the ocean view stop.
We were probably the youngest couple at the restaurant but I spent $125 on food. I felt like because my gf and I were young we could not get the ocean view side table because they knew elderly couple will want the table and they will order more food and give them more tip.
In my opinion, I did not get treated equally as other elderly couples at the night.
Not to mention, my gf and I were dressed semi formally and our manner was top notch if anyone is concerned. I even paid proper amount of tip as well that night.
It could be that someone reserved table before I did so it was unavailable but the way they treated our were not worth of my money and time. I never got treated disrespectfully when I went to white rock “ Boat house” or one in Richmond. All the food were amazing but service, we are not going to go out for dinner at “Boat house New West” ever again.
Birthday lunch and note in reservation. Reservation table was not ready with the dining room half empty. No one at front door to greet. Bar staff walked over to greet but left to find a hostess. Was seated and waited 10 minutes for server, water, menus. My guest ordered from brunch menu and has a food allergy which was not listed on menu or she would’ve ordered something else; when asked if the entré plate had the specific allergen fruit touched the plate the server said, “um, I don’t think so...”. When asked to check with the kitchen staff she returned and was equally unhelpful with an open ended answer; my guest opted to avoid the side fruit dish just in case. No mention of occasion, unhelpful, unfriendly, slow, inattentive server and hostesses. My absolutely final time doing business with this location. Fourth and final visit and it’s always the same disappointing dining experience.
The views are fantastic, besides random people walking in and out of the dining room floor door to the Quay.
Restaurant was short staffed according to the Manager, extremely long wait for dinner, and arrived cold and had to return to kitchen twice for 1 dinner and three times for another dinner and restaurant was full. Costly menu and did not live up to expectations. Management advised us after our dinner problems that were encountered. She should have advised us in advance as we were celebrating a milestone birthday.
we had a party of 11 to celebrate a birthday. Unfortunately the service was slow and the food was disappointing
very good. service was excellent. Value, not so much.
the staff is friendly, but it took too long to get the food served, the food taste so so, not worth the waiting time at all! besides the crab meat is kind of smelly.
Everything was "ok" , but nothing really impressive, and while we took advantage of the Dine-Out promo, it just wasn't good enough to prompt us to return (certainly not at full price).
The bathrooms were quite dirty, hadn't been tended to all night by the looks of things.
Have been once or twice before, and hoped it would have improved, but was disappointed as it seems like nothing has changed / improved in years.
Steak was salty. Vegetable portion was small. Service was just OK
Server was great and food was delicious as always
Unfortunately difficult for a non-driver to get to but worth the trip. Went for Dine Out; my partner had a very nice full plate of fish and chips. My steak, mash and vegetables were delicious and perfectly cooked but portion size was underwhelming compared to prix fixe $30 cost. Service was attentive and excellent, very personable.
We had an excellent venue for a family special occasion and our grandson was occupied with colouring his placemat. Worked like a charm. The food for everyone was very good except for 1 lobster tail my wife had which was on the mushy side, but the other one was delicious. Our waiter, Evan, was excellent. Only one drawback.....we didn’t know the outside parking lot had disappeared under tons of concrete and both families had one ton trucks to park that couldn’t fit underground. The cold rainy night made the parking problem even larger for us. It would have been nice if the person taking the reservation could have told us . But! Thanks for making the evening successful otherwise. Keith1
In terms of ambience, the lights were WAY too bright for the evening. We sat in the booth, and the lights were so bright that it completely ruined the ambience. The music also didn't help. It would have been nice to be listening to classical or more mood setting music instead of pop music. It didn't seem to go with the style of the restaurant at all.
The bread we got to start was literally just a chunck of warm bread. It looked like there were some cuts in it but they weren't deep enough to make full slices so we literally had to rip chuncks off to eat. Kinda awkward.
The server was nice and attentive but the courses weren't well timed. That is probably more of a kitchen issue and I understand it may be hard to time courses for dine-out Vancouver.
Overall, it was a mediocre experience.
There was no parking for the restaurant. Would have been nice if we were reimbursed for paying for parking. May not come back because of that reason.
The waiter was taking care of us. He stopped briefly & checked how we were doing a few times. A very cosy atmosphere for gathering & a spacious environment made me feel carefree. A good place for a nice chat w/ friends & family members.
It took a while to get my table. I made reservation at 8 and didn't get in till almost 8:30. The food came pretty slow I know it was dine out but everyone around was serving dessert or already done and I was still waiting for my entree.
our server Jackson was super friendly, efficient and attentive on a very busy night. kudo's for making our evening even more enjoyable!
We had made a reservation online . When we got there they couldn’t find our reservation. They put us at a table that was in the middle of the walkway. We asked to be moved and they said there we no tables available. They were already reserved. They said we could sit in the bar which we did. We had no bread before dinner and when the meals came our waitress never asked us if we want any pepper. So overall it was not a good experience
The service are excellant. Pretty servers and nice attitude. Not happy with the pay parking
Great food, great service! Definitely I would go there again.
I took my wife here for her birthday, and we both really enjoyed ourselves. To our surprise, it was also Dine Out Vancouver, so we both went with that menu, and the food was delicious. The servers were pleasant and attentive, and the candle in our dessert made my wife smile. We were also provided with a window seat per my Opentable request, so Boathouse delivered!
Service was so so. The waiter was polite but a bit slow in attending to the table. He also smelled of smoke.
The food was not great. The cut of steak I had was fatty and not very tender. The same was true when I was there a week ago.
The location is nice and the restaurant is clean and well appointed.
The restaurant location is very good. Dine out menu is fair. The fire-grilled sirloin is awesome and definitely recommended
We sat in the lounge to have a few drinks before dinner and the service was so bad that we paid our bill and didn't even go into dinner. We will never go back to the boathouse again the service was just so bad.
Good comfort food and value for dine out. Service was good as the restaurant was quite busy.
My wife and I were thoroughly disappointed. Not only with the time it took to get the courses but also with our meals. My cod did not come with the lime, coconut sauce as was listed on the menu. It went back to the kitchen and came back, supposedly with the sauce, but there was no flavour to it. On top of this the fish was dry and chewy so I did not finish my meal. The manager did ask if I wanted something else but I declined so my meal was comped. The best thing about my meal was the seafood chowder but was a very small portion. The creme brûlée was supposed to be warm but wasn’t. My wife’s Caesar salad did not appear to have any dressing or flavour to it and her meal was supposed to be curried but there was no curry taste to the meal at all. My wife’s mocha dessert was mostly melted ice cream by the time it got to the table. All in all, a terrible experience. Will not be returning any time soon!!
