Boathouse New Westminster Ratings and Reviews
I reserved table the day before and I specially asked for a ocean view side table as it was my date night. When My gf and I got there waitress gave not the ocean view side table but the construction site view table. I gently asked if I can move our table to the ocean view side. Return was “no, sorry all table were already booked.” I talked to the waitress that I also booked in advance so she when to talk to the host but still declined with no reason why. And finally by the time my gf and I finished our dinner and got the bill, a couple came to take the ocean view stop.
We were probably the youngest couple at the restaurant but I spent $125 on food. I felt like because my gf and I were young we could not get the ocean view side table because they knew elderly couple will want the table and they will order more food and give them more tip.
In my opinion, I did not get treated equally as other elderly couples at the night.
Not to mention, my gf and I were dressed semi formally and our manner was top notch if anyone is concerned. I even paid proper amount of tip as well that night.
It could be that someone reserved table before I did so it was unavailable but the way they treated our were not worth of my money and time. I never got treated disrespectfully when I went to white rock “ Boat house” or one in Richmond. All the food were amazing but service, we are not going to go out for dinner at “Boat house New West” ever again.
Birthday lunch and note in reservation. Reservation table was not ready with the dining room half empty. No one at front door to greet. Bar staff walked over to greet but left to find a hostess. Was seated and waited 10 minutes for server, water, menus. My guest ordered from brunch menu and has a food allergy which was not listed on menu or she would’ve ordered something else; when asked if the entré plate had the specific allergen fruit touched the plate the server said, “um, I don’t think so...”. When asked to check with the kitchen staff she returned and was equally unhelpful with an open ended answer; my guest opted to avoid the side fruit dish just in case. No mention of occasion, unhelpful, unfriendly, slow, inattentive server and hostesses. My absolutely final time doing business with this location. Fourth and final visit and it’s always the same disappointing dining experience.
The views are fantastic, besides random people walking in and out of the dining room floor door to the Quay.
Restaurant was short staffed according to the Manager, extremely long wait for dinner, and arrived cold and had to return to kitchen twice for 1 dinner and three times for another dinner and restaurant was full. Costly menu and did not live up to expectations. Management advised us after our dinner problems that were encountered. She should have advised us in advance as we were celebrating a milestone birthday.
Everything was "ok" , but nothing really impressive, and while we took advantage of the Dine-Out promo, it just wasn't good enough to prompt us to return (certainly not at full price).
The bathrooms were quite dirty, hadn't been tended to all night by the looks of things.
Have been once or twice before, and hoped it would have improved, but was disappointed as it seems like nothing has changed / improved in years.
Unfortunately difficult for a non-driver to get to but worth the trip. Went for Dine Out; my partner had a very nice full plate of fish and chips. My steak, mash and vegetables were delicious and perfectly cooked but portion size was underwhelming compared to prix fixe $30 cost. Service was attentive and excellent, very personable.
We had an excellent venue for a family special occasion and our grandson was occupied with colouring his placemat. Worked like a charm. The food for everyone was very good except for 1 lobster tail my wife had which was on the mushy side, but the other one was delicious. Our waiter, Evan, was excellent. Only one drawback.....we didn’t know the outside parking lot had disappeared under tons of concrete and both families had one ton trucks to park that couldn’t fit underground. The cold rainy night made the parking problem even larger for us. It would have been nice if the person taking the reservation could have told us . But! Thanks for making the evening successful otherwise. Keith1
In terms of ambience, the lights were WAY too bright for the evening. We sat in the booth, and the lights were so bright that it completely ruined the ambience. The music also didn't help. It would have been nice to be listening to classical or more mood setting music instead of pop music. It didn't seem to go with the style of the restaurant at all.
The bread we got to start was literally just a chunck of warm bread. It looked like there were some cuts in it but they weren't deep enough to make full slices so we literally had to rip chuncks off to eat. Kinda awkward.
The server was nice and attentive but the courses weren't well timed. That is probably more of a kitchen issue and I understand it may be hard to time courses for dine-out Vancouver.
Overall, it was a mediocre experience.
We had made a reservation online . When we got there they couldn’t find our reservation. They put us at a table that was in the middle of the walkway. We asked to be moved and they said there we no tables available. They were already reserved. They said we could sit in the bar which we did. We had no bread before dinner and when the meals came our waitress never asked us if we want any pepper. So overall it was not a good experience
I took my wife here for her birthday, and we both really enjoyed ourselves. To our surprise, it was also Dine Out Vancouver, so we both went with that menu, and the food was delicious. The servers were pleasant and attentive, and the candle in our dessert made my wife smile. We were also provided with a window seat per my Opentable request, so Boathouse delivered!
Service was so so. The waiter was polite but a bit slow in attending to the table. He also smelled of smoke.
The food was not great. The cut of steak I had was fatty and not very tender. The same was true when I was there a week ago.
The location is nice and the restaurant is clean and well appointed.
My wife and I were thoroughly disappointed. Not only with the time it took to get the courses but also with our meals. My cod did not come with the lime, coconut sauce as was listed on the menu. It went back to the kitchen and came back, supposedly with the sauce, but there was no flavour to it. On top of this the fish was dry and chewy so I did not finish my meal. The manager did ask if I wanted something else but I declined so my meal was comped. The best thing about my meal was the seafood chowder but was a very small portion. The creme brûlée was supposed to be warm but wasn’t. My wife’s Caesar salad did not appear to have any dressing or flavour to it and her meal was supposed to be curried but there was no curry taste to the meal at all. My wife’s mocha dessert was mostly melted ice cream by the time it got to the table. All in all, a terrible experience. Will not be returning any time soon!!
From the moment we entered, we had a good experience. The service was excellent as our waiter was brilliant; friendly and approachable and attentive. Unfortunately the young lady who seated us mentioned the coat rack was available but didn’t take my coat to hang it up or offer to show the way. The people who brought our food did not being the pepper and our waiter checked and brought it both times. Justin I believe his name was. Fabulous food. Best steak we’ve ever tasted. Sat by the window and had a pleasant view of the Fraser. Ambience was romantic and tasteful. We will be back.
Service was overall very good - flexible, and accommodating! But Greeting could have been better - the only place we been to that could not hear "Happy New Year!" on new year's day
Also, heat was down and no portable heater as backup (but blanket was offered). Paid parking was hard to find.
Waiter was not accessible at times and had to wait for at least 5 mins. I must say I had better dining experience at different boathouse location before.
Not happy!!! It was New Years Eve!!!! When I arrived at Boathouse about 35 min before my reservation. I was greeted and told I would be seated as soon as the table was ready....the hostess was nice. Then she asked if I wanted a window, but said if I was cold then she can seat me somewhere in the middle...which I was ok with. Then couple mins later told me there was. Table but kinda tight with a few other guests. Which I just said I’ll wait till my reservation. So as I’m sitting n waiting at least 4 ppl came in and out and I over heard something about 75.00. So I walked up to the hostess and asked her what she was talking about. That’s when she told me there was a set menu that we can only order off of. So I asked her why she didn’t tell me as I’ve been here doe so long and she said oh I thought u knew. Then she said we told everyone about the menu when we confirmed reservation. I said no one called me. She said oh did u boom today and I reply yes. She then said yeah we didn’t get to call anyone today. Then I asked her why it wasn’t online when I looked at the menu she said oh we tried but the computer kept crashing. I was pretty upset that I wasn’t told as I was super excited I even got a reservation at Boathouse. I was upset I couldn’t eat everything nor could my friend eat anything off the set menu. The hostess then said to me there paddlewheeler pub u can go to. Umm no thank you. There’s a reason why I booked fine dining. Got me even more upset n now I’m walking up and down new west to find somewhere to eat. Thanks Boathouse for an amazing experience on NYE great start 😡
Had to flag down a waitress after sitting for 15 mins with noone coming to even bring water. Once we ordered grom the set NYE menu one in our party was told they were out of their selection. Appies came fairly quickly and were good but then we waited an inordinate amount of time for our main course. The meals were delicious but it shouldn't have taken 75 mins to get. Dessert came very quickly after the mains but cheesecake was still frizen and creme brule had seperated.
Forgot some of our food they sat us in front of a freezing cold window and was freezing cold the entire dinner , we didn’t feel it was worth the money and have had much better dinners on a average day , and was expecting a little better for a New Year’s Eve dinner
