Locally owned and operated by Chef Philip & Charlene Branan, Boar's Head offers casual, waterfront dining in a unique restored cotton warehouse built in the 1800's.

I absolutely love the old brick that is seen throughout Georgia and this restaurant shares that characteristic as well. My son and I were looking for a great steak dinner and we definitely found it. I requested a window seat when I made our reservation in order to look out to the Savannah River and my request was granted. Our meal arrived in a timely fashion and we were not disappointed in the least. On our way out, the chef and owner was talking with his staff just outside the open/visible grill area and stated he hoped we enjoyed it and I told him how good it was. I thought that was nice and more personal since you don't often see the people who want you to do business with them! I will definitely go back on future trips to Savannah.
We ate here on Valentine's Day. Old style Inn ambience with friendly wait staff. Food was really good, and service was also very good. We were originally seated in the kitchen area, which is pretty busy, but as I was checking out the other areas of the restaurant, a member of the wait staff saw me and asked if we would like to move to the back dining area, which we did. No muss, no fuss, no bother. Wait staff is knowledgeable about both the food and area, and was able to direct us to an Irish pub to finish the evening.
Made a reservation at 5, arrived early and it was no problem, seated us immediately, also requested a window seat and they accommodated us. At the end of the meal we told our waitress it was our daughters birthday and she was more than happy to comp our dessert. Everyone had a great meal and would definitely go there again.
The atmosphere was excellent. Right on the river so we had a good view of ships through the window behind our table. Even when nearly full it wasn't loud so we didn't have to raise our voices to have a conversation at our table. The decor is very nice. The service was good but slow. At one point I almost went to find the manager to see if our waitress went home. Our waitress got our order right without taking notes, which was nice. Three of us had burgers, all ordered medium rare, and all 3 were at least medium well done. Since it took so long to get them didn't send them back. They were very tasty. One person had beer in our party and it wasn't overpriced as I was expecting.
Boar's Head is a first class restaurant disguising itself as a 'tavern'. It has the ambience of a rustic seaport tavern, but the menu items and their preparation are on par with the best of Savannah's food scene. Service was exceptional both for its efficiency and friendliness. Boar's Head Grill and Tavern exceeded all expectations.
In town for one night and so glad we picked to eat at this hidden gem on the river. Food was fabulous. So much flavor. Cooked to perfection. From the special blackened grilled shrimp with grits appetizer to the steak and crab cake entree and everything else that was on our table...absolutely delicious!!
Went to Boars Head on our Honeymoon 50 years ago. Went back for our 50th anniversary. We had a fabulous time. Food was terrific. Our server Will made the evening a really special treat. When asked if something was possible, Will's reply was always. "I can make that happen!" and he did. We could not have been more happy with the entire evening.... Drinks, food, Service and attention. Fabulous...
Had a great experience at the Boars head tavern. I found the restaurant on trip advisor And was visiting from out of town My husband and I had a great meal!! From the appetizers (the she crab soup was fabulous) to the homemade key lime pie, we enjoyed everything so much!!! Would highly recommend. And great service as well!!!
Had the shrimp primavera and was pleasantly surprised as ordering pasta at restaurants usually means a ton of pasta and nothing else but sauce, however this was soooo much better! A ton of shrimp, more veggies than pasta, and a nice light pesto/olive oil dressing. Perfect! Husband had a perfectly cooked steak - very tricky to find in a restaurant. Staff was wonderful, and ambience was cool. Kids enjoyed their meals and watching the ships go by!
What a great way to start the new year. We loved the food and our waiter was excellent. Good local beer selection as well. We had a special appetizer grilled cajun shrimp and grits. For entrees: salmon over grits, stuffed shrimp, and filet mignon. The cheesy grits were out of this world. Dessert was a nice complement to the meal, bread pudding, and a giant profiterole.
We dined at Boar's Head Grill and Tavern on New Year's Eve and it was outstanding. We had made reservations and we were seated at a lovely table overlooking the river. It was wonderful not to be locked into a set menu or a set price on New Year's. We ordered a lovely bottle of wine, ate delightful hot bread with butter, and I must say my chicken piccata was the best I've ever had. Our waitress was Austin and she was extremely attentive, she checked on us often even though the restaurant was very busy. On your visit to Savannah you should definitely check Boar's Head Grill and Tavern out - and ask to be seated in Austin's section!
We went to the Boar's Head for New Year's Eve and it did not disappoint. The shrimp and grits were wonderful! The stuffed flounder was fabulous. The she-crab soup was like a bisque and had a wonderful flavor to it. The barbequed shrimp would be great as a meal! Dessert was fantastic and the drinks were great too! Would definitely return when I go back to Savannah!!
Great shrimp and grits. Best grits we've had since moving to Savannah! Creamy, cheesy and finally grits with flavor! Sausage could have been more flavorful, love my spice, but still wonderful. Would be smart to add a spicy sausage option to the shrimp and grit mix for those who crave spiciness in every meal! My husband had the steak and lobster. Pricey for the amount but very good. One friend had the salmon and loved it. The stuffed flounder was a tad dry but he downed it with an extra side of grits and was satisfied. We were a few minutes late for our reservation due to our Uber driver, but they called us to make sure we were coming :-) Great service! Will be going again.
Cozy bar, friendly staff and a great meal. Was there on a chilly night and I appreciated a well crafted cocktail. I live in a beach town and know fresh seafood. I had a swordfish steak that was outstanding. It is right on the river and I imagine gets a heavy visitor business but there were a few regulars at the bar. I would return in a minute.
The restaurant is in a very old and charming building. Exposed wooden beams and ancient flooring. The food was prepared well with generous portions and fair prices. Varied American fare with a Southern slant. Overall a good choice. Went there in late December after dark so the view of the riverfront is not very significant. We drove and if you are from out of town Google directions are tough to follow within the last few hundred yards.
Host and waitress were very friendly and helpful. I had a reservation and wanted the table by the window. Host said no problem, but old lady owner(?) didn’t want any part of it. Had to check to see if we had a reservation even though the host told her we did. Not a great impression of the place. Waitress and food made up for her.
Great location on River Street. Enjoyed the experience with the view of the river and passing ships. My family enjoyed their dinners. I ordered the burger. The kitchen’s idea of a medium burger (basically rare) and mine varied greatly. I ate it out of politeness.
Anniversary dinner - window seat. Booked reservations just in case. Not needed usually. Excellent food! A little pricey but we did order cocktails, appetizers, salads, and entree’s. For our Anniversary they sent us home with a free desert too. She Crab Soup is heavenly. Crab Cake fluffy and Really meaty...Perfect! Very tasty! Mixed Green Salad with house dressing also very good. Filet Mignon Steak with Bacon Wrapped Peach BBQ Glazed Shrimp was divine & super tender. Amazing flavor! Side was Garlic Mashed Potatoes (also wonderful) and house made wheat bread. On a previous visit I had the Burger which was huge and really good. I could eat here daily if I lived closer to Savannah. We will definitely go back.
Jermaine is a server we've had before and he was excellent once again. We weren't to hungry so we ordered sone appetizers with our drinks. Bbq shrimp remains a must - have. Fried green tomatoes were tasty and the side of creamed spinach was yummy, to boot. This is a locale we visit on every trip to Savannah. Worth it!
