It was great. The best cheese grits ever. Super friendly staff!!!
We were very promptly seated by a window. Our server was fantastic! She kept checking on us throughout our meal. My filet was perfect, as was the baked potato! My husband had the ribeye, and he said it was great! Creme brûlée for dessert was outstanding! Loved our dinner there!
We had dinner on a prior visit to Savannah and remembered enjoying this restaurant. Once again it did not disappoint with excellent food and service. We were seated by a window overlooking the river and everything was perfect. We will be back in our next visit to this beautiful city.
Vacation in Savannah
My boyfriend and I had reservations for our anniversary, and could not be any more pleased with the service we had. It was absolutely amazing service by our waiter, also what seemed to be the owner, amazing food; all around an absolutely amazing experience. We are from Ohio and since we have been home, we have spoke very highly about this restaurant and recommended it to many friends and family.
Great food! The best shrimp and grits in Savannah!
my absolute favorite restaurant; the food, the service and the view
Our group had so looked forward to returning to Boar's Head for dinner on our yearly trip to Savannah. It's unfortunate that I have to say we were disappointed in our meal, but we were. As usual, service was fantastic, and we do love the ambiance of this restaurant. All of us ordered the filet mignon. Mine was cooked as ordered, but two in our party were not that fortunate. However, the worst part of the meal was that three of us were served loaded baked potatoes that were absolutely terrible -- so overcooked that even the toppings were "glued" together. Sad to say, we will not be returning on next year's visit. I do want to say that the service was exemplary, and what's not to love about the setting and general feel of the restaurant. Perhaps this was just a bad night, but it did leave a less than favorable impression, and with so little time to spend in such a lovely city we don't care to chance a bad meal there again.
Good food. Server was attentive to our needs. Would definitely recommend this place.
Had really great service & the food was good. Enjoyed the 'ghost' mini-tour. History was very interesting & worth the trip.
Recommended by Trip Advisor as well as Open Table. They were spot on. Filet done as ordered and really great flavor. Partner had shrimp and pasta. His was just ok. Prices were great. Would definitely go there again.
After eating here, It's safe to say my fiancé and I will be back soon! Our waiter was incredibly helpful and honest. When we asked him about the steaks, he was very thorough and provided great insight into how each tastes. My fiancé got the filet mignon and I had the ribeye. Both were cooked perfectly and quickly. Dessert was amazing as well. Being that I'm from NY I had to have the cheese cake and I'm glad I had theirs! Would highly recommend to anyone!
We decided on Boar’s Head Tavern based off of a previous experience and it did not disappoint! We were greeted warmly upon entering they were able to accommodate us even though we were early for our reservation. We were seated between a couple of windows and the kitchen - best of both worlds. The server came by promptly to take our drink order. I took advantage of the $5 margarita special that I was told was offered each day during the week (Bloody Marys are part of the $5.00 special, as well). We received four slices of homemade bread after placing our order, which were fantastic. Only problem was, our server didn’t come around again so we could get a couple more slices! We were able to get someone else who came by to get us some more bread, though, so all was well.
Dinner was fantastic - hubby and I shared the 12 oz ribeye (with Gorgonzola butter) and a burger between the two of us. Both dishes were cooked exactly as we requested and satisfied both of our appetites completely. We will return on our next trip to Savannah!
We come to Savannha many times for business meetings and stay away from the waterfront because it's very touristy. My husband insisted we try this again and we were very pleased. He stoped in earlier in the day and requested a table by the window. We walked in and the host acknowledged that, remembered it and seated us immediately. We had the shrimp and grits appetizer and it was so wonderful that they made us a dinner size to match. Blackened perfect! I want to say we are picky and it was great. When leaving my husband offered the host a tip and he wouldn't except it---saying please give it to the server as extra--which we did. We also ate at the 3 top restaurants in Savannha and were very please with the food here. Atmosphere is pub like and not fine dining but the cheesy grits and blackened shrimp were the best in town.
We picked Boar's Head based on reviews. Great call. The restaurant is in a very old water front building. The owner and his wife have had it since 1980 and are very active, and it shows in the quality of the food and service. We had the shrimp and grits dinner and the shrimp primavera. Both were well done and frankly the shrimp and grits was a wonderful surprise for us west coast folks. It was fabulous. Michael, our server was a font of knowledge about Savannah and knew the menu inside and out. If we did not live 3000 miles away, this would be in our normal rotation.
I absolutely love the old brick that is seen throughout Georgia and this restaurant shares that characteristic as well. My son and I were looking for a great steak dinner and we definitely found it. I requested a window seat when I made our reservation in order to look out to the Savannah River and my request was granted. Our meal arrived in a timely fashion and we were not disappointed in the least. On our way out, the chef and owner was talking with his staff just outside the open/visible grill area and stated he hoped we enjoyed it and I told him how good it was. I thought that was nice and more personal since you don't often see the people who want you to do business with them! I will definitely go back on future trips to Savannah.
Great dinner, super service and great atmosphere. Staff was friendly and very service oriented. Shrimp and grits app was out of this world! Highly recommend!
Delicious!!! I had the stuffed shrimp with angel hair. It was wonderful. Would definitely order again. We had barbecued shrimp and fried green tomatoes as appetizers. Great choices!! Dessert Key Lime. Also excellent. Will definitely return!!
Great food and service. Amazing pecan pie
We ate here on Valentine's Day. Old style Inn ambience with friendly wait staff. Food was really good, and service was also very good. We were originally seated in the kitchen area, which is pretty busy, but as I was checking out the other areas of the restaurant, a member of the wait staff saw me and asked if we would like to move to the back dining area, which we did. No muss, no fuss, no bother. Wait staff is knowledgeable about both the food and area, and was able to direct us to an Irish pub to finish the evening.
Had a lovely meal
Superb dining experience in every respect. Best dinner I have had out in 10 years!
Made a reservation at 5, arrived early and it was no problem, seated us immediately, also requested a window seat and they accommodated us. At the end of the meal we told our waitress it was our daughters birthday and she was more than happy to comp our dessert. Everyone had a great meal and would definitely go there again.
Great food in a semi-casual atmosphere - great historic building along the Savannah river - Pork Chop was very tasty and plated well with a sweet potato puree and topped with a fresh Peach compote.
The atmosphere was excellent. Right on the river so we had a good view of ships through the window behind our table. Even when nearly full it wasn't loud so we didn't have to raise our voices to have a conversation at our table. The decor is very nice. The service was good but slow. At one point I almost went to find the manager to see if our waitress went home. Our waitress got our order right without taking notes, which was nice. Three of us had burgers, all ordered medium rare, and all 3 were at least medium well done. Since it took so long to get them didn't send them back. They were very tasty. One person had beer in our party and it wasn't overpriced as I was expecting.
Boar's Head is a first class restaurant disguising itself as a 'tavern'. It has the ambience of a rustic seaport tavern, but the menu items and their preparation are on par with the best of Savannah's food scene. Service was exceptional both for its efficiency and friendliness. Boar's Head Grill and Tavern exceeded all expectations.
First time there. The view of the river is excellent, the food is very good and the service was excellent.
What 's not to like?
2nd time we have eaten at Boar’s Head. Hands down the best restaurant on River Street!
In town for one night and so glad we picked to eat at this hidden gem on the river. Food was fabulous. So much flavor. Cooked to perfection. From the special blackened grilled shrimp with grits appetizer to the steak and crab cake entree and everything else that was on our table...absolutely delicious!!
Went to Boars Head on our Honeymoon 50 years ago. Went back for our 50th anniversary. We had a fabulous time. Food was terrific. Our server Will made the evening a really special treat. When asked if something was possible, Will's reply was always. "I can make that happen!" and he did. We could not have been more happy with the entire evening.... Drinks, food, Service and attention. Fabulous...
Had a great experience at the Boars head tavern. I found the restaurant on trip advisor And was visiting from out of town My husband and I had a great meal!! From the appetizers (the she crab soup was fabulous) to the homemade key lime pie, we enjoyed everything so much!!! Would highly recommend. And great service as well!!!
Food was great . Service was awesome. Great view of the river from our table. Will definitely be back
We met up with a couple we hadn't seen in a very long time. In addition to having good food and great service, we were given the opportunity to visit as long as we wanted. It was a wonderful lunch experience.
Had the shrimp primavera and was pleasantly surprised as ordering pasta at restaurants usually means a ton of pasta and nothing else but sauce, however this was soooo much better! A ton of shrimp, more veggies than pasta, and a nice light pesto/olive oil dressing. Perfect! Husband had a perfectly cooked steak - very tricky to find in a restaurant. Staff was wonderful, and ambience was cool. Kids enjoyed their meals and watching the ships go by!
Had a reservation and was seated promptly. Both of us enjoyed our meal and would go back. Right on the river.
Comfortable place with very good food. Varied menu. Very nice welcoming service! Will return!
What a great way to start the new year. We loved the food and our waiter was excellent. Good local beer selection as well. We had a special appetizer grilled cajun shrimp and grits. For entrees: salmon over grits, stuffed shrimp, and filet mignon. The cheesy grits were out of this world. Dessert was a nice complement to the meal, bread pudding, and a giant profiterole.
Best shrimp and grits ever! Everyone loved their meal. Great service. More of a pub ambiance but right on the river and fun.
We dined at Boar's Head Grill and Tavern on New Year's Eve and it was outstanding. We had made reservations and we were seated at a lovely table overlooking the river. It was wonderful not to be locked into a set menu or a set price on New Year's. We ordered a lovely bottle of wine, ate delightful hot bread with butter, and I must say my chicken piccata was the best I've ever had. Our waitress was Austin and she was extremely attentive, she checked on us often even though the restaurant was very busy. On your visit to Savannah you should definitely check Boar's Head Grill and Tavern out - and ask to be seated in Austin's section!
We went to the Boar's Head for New Year's Eve and it did not disappoint. The shrimp and grits were wonderful! The stuffed flounder was fabulous. The she-crab soup was like a bisque and had a wonderful flavor to it. The barbequed shrimp would be great as a meal! Dessert was fantastic and the drinks were great too! Would definitely return when I go back to Savannah!!
