Boar's Head Grill and Tavern Ratings and Reviews
We had a group of 6...showed up 20 minutes before our reservation time and waited an hour for our food. When the food began to arrive at the table there were entrees that were cooked wrong and most of it was cold or warm. Food was far too expensive for the quality. Upon receiving our checks, each member in our group was allowed to pick a free desert. We will not be going back and will not recommend.
We were seated immediately upon arrival, at a prime window table. Our server took our drinks order and they arrived in minutes. She helped us with a couple of questions about the menu. Food arrived promptly, nicely presented and plentiful. The server was discreet throughout, topping up water and refreshing drinks without being intrusive. Dessert portions were just the right size, satisfying without gorging. A great evening and a restaurant we will definitely revisit on a future visit to Savannah
Amazing place owned and operated by on-site husband/wife owners with delicious food and drinks. One of Savannah's best for all occasions from casual to semi-formal. Beautiful view, great bar and friendly staff. Highly recommend to locals and tourists. 30 Year Savannah citizen from Va Beach.
Wonderful restaurant! Historic building on the waterfront. Table with a view was ready when we arrived. Friendly staff. Food was awesome. I had the crab stuff tilapia. Cream brûlée for desert. All was made to perfection. Our waiter answered questions about the building and shared some historical facts with us. Truly a spectacular evening.
First time visiting Savannah, and we are so thrilled to have dined at Boars Head Grill--the room itself was cozy, and we were seated at one of the windows overlooking the river and watched ships pass by; our server Austin was excellent--personable with a perfect sense of timing. The food was excellent--my wife enjoyed the famous she-crab soup and a perfectly cooked ribeye steak; I savored the oysters Rockefeller and shrimp and grits--a spectacular dish that really hit the spot--All in all a lovely evening we will not soon forget. And don't miss cocktails on the roof of the Bohemian Hotel-a great start or end to a lovely evening!
We've eaten here before. My she-crab soup and fried shrimp were excellent. My wife, however, had a salad with shrimp that she thought very bland. The manager stopped by to ask how our dinner turned out. I told him about her salad and he immediately took it back and added enough spice to make it good.
My wife and I came to Boars Head to celebrate our 45th anniversary. They did not disappoint. The entire staff from the Maitre'd to the bartenders ensured that we had a memorable evening. The food was absolutely delicious. Our server, Auston, was very knowledgeable of the menu items and wine list and lead us though a wonderful culinary experience. Thank you Boars Head and we are looking forward to dining with you again.
This unassuming bar/restaurant serves some of the best dishes in Savannah. It’s not nearly as fancy as some of the other noted Savannah restaurants but the food may actually be superior. We had the bbq shrimp which was great and I had a steak that was perfectly cooked and delicious. If I found my way back to Savannah this is the restaurant that I would look forward to revisit.
Absolutely the best meal we have had in a very long time. The shrimp & grits are plate licking good. That dish is a favorite of mine ... now I can't order it anywhere else. Sharon's steak & BBQ shrimp were perfect. Steak was perfectly cooked and very flavorful and the shrimp was delicious with a wonderful peach BBQ sauce. Our server Joe provided very professional friendly service. I wish we didn't live so far away, we would be regulars. YES, By all means have dinner at The Boars Head. You will love it!!!!
Good food, they had snow peas as a seasonal side option and they were delicious. The filet was cooked perfectly and tasted great, they do give a choice of sauces they put on the side of it if you want, but they were not needed. Their wine list was solid, good selections but not huge. The she crab soup was quite tasty. There is some view of the water front through a few windows, it really depends on where you get seated. A prior review had mentioned Maine lobster was an option, but that is incorrect. The chocolate bread pudding was divine! My husband loved his creme brulee.
We are on vacation in Savannah and decided to have dinner here. The food was good but nothing amazing. The server and service was good. Everyone was very friendly. I ordered the fried shrimp and my husband ordered the stuffed tilapia. Again both good but in a foodie town there has to be better. Ambiance was as to be expected based on its location on River Street.
Overall great experience. The open table app worked well even though our time and headcount changed several times in the days leading up to our visit. Service was solid, with a friendly and helpful staff, and everyone enjoyed their meals. Even though the restaurant was busy on a holiday weekend, the noise level did not ever get bad and we had a great evening catching up with family. I rarely give 5 stars, but this was close, and everything about our meal was great!
Was there Saturday night. Got there at 7:00 and wasn't busy at all. By 7:30 it was busy and we were glad we made reservation through OT. We wanted to share the bouillabaisse and the shrimp and grits. Our server suggested we have them as two courses with the bouillabaisse being the first course because it's lighter. Great idea. Both were delicious. A table near the window allowed us to watch the ships passing. It's kind of a rustic restaurant but fun & lively.
Was in Savannah for a couple of days with friends from South Florida and found Boar's Head grill on yelp. Had mixed reviews but, for us, was a very pleasant evening. Will was our server and was awesome. First time there and he explained some of the history of Boar's Head, worth going there just for that! Everyone enjoyed all that was ordered from appetizers to entree's not one complaint. Will visit again on our next visit to Savannah!
We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The waitress was about 3-4 minutes arriving at the table, and without water. We ordered a cocktail that took 8 minutes to arrive, after I hailed her and reminded her "We are backed up at the bar". Well - OK, but a drink? Then we ordered appetizer which came quickly and was OK. The "killer" tomatoes were ordinary. The entree? Well that was another more than 25 minutes, after which time the waitress asked if she could give us a free cup of soup "on me". I'm not getting food paid for by the waitress!!! The food is OK, but nothing there was worth waiting for over 40 minutes for service. Atmosphere is a C-, just a dark room with old heavy furniture and an open kitchen. There are better choices in Savannah.
Our server was very good. Explained the menu and specials in detail and he was very professional and friendly. The atmosphere is very casual as it has been around along time. It's on the waterfront so good location to walk before or after dinner. The food was ok.
First visit to Savannah and first visit to Boar's Head. Service was prompt and friendly. Our server, Michael was calm, thorough and accommodating. A couple of other staff members - maybe managers or owners - casually checked-in with us at different times. Both seemed very genuine and concerned that everyone who enters their restaurant should be treated with the utmost care. I am very picky about how my cocktails are made and Michael took the time to right down the details of my request without blinking an eye. Then the bartender executed the drink perfectly! Kudos to both of them for NOT having the all too often "know-it-all" hospitality demeanor. I look forward to returning to Boar's Head one day!
