This is one of our favorite sushi restaurants in Orange County. We have been a fan of Mr. Abe's dishes since he was in Newport Beach years ago. The fish is very high quality.
We have been coming here for many years, so i have to say that this is the first time we were disappointed. The otoro did nòt seem very fresh and felt like it was frozen too long and thawed so that texture was too soft. And price of raw fish has steadily increased to an unreasonable level.
Great fish and food. Will be back
The quality and presentation continues to be top notch and rivals any sushi in the United States.
Great restaurant in all regards--food, service, helpfulness of waitstaff. We love Blue Fin!
Creatively composed, excellent quality sushi and other omakase that is as satisfying to look at as it is to eat. Service is very responsive and unobtrusive with seamless coordination between the sushi chef and wait staff. Not everything was to our taste, but it was all part an experience we highly recommend.
Amazing food, friendly chef!
Best sushi restaurant in So Cal! They never disappoint us. Food and service are excellent! Big applause to Chef Yoshi ! We can’t wait for our next visit!!!
Really great food and service. I will return the next time I visit the area
excellent food & presentation from Chef Abe, always.
Overrated and lackluster food. Service was non-existent. Would definitely not return.
We came for OC Restaurant Week and were really excited to try this restaurant. Though we enjoyed our meal, the service was horrible. The woman who was working the front stand was terribly rude. She was very short when speaking to us. We made reservations via Open Table but she was trying to seat us at the counter. We had specifically asked for a table in our reservations because we had a toddler. Although there was a table available, she refused to give it to us saying that the table was reserved. Ummm.. we had a reservation for a table too......In the end, we got seated at the counter, and the other people never showed up for the table reservation. As we left, I looked at her and she refused to look at me. Most likely she realized she made a terrible move and was trying to avoid looking at me to admit her mistake. Even though I enjoyed the food, dining out is about the entire experience. I will not return to this restaurant and will let all my friends know to avoid the stuck up service at this place. If you are not carrying an expensive bag or wearing luxury brands, they will treat you like a second class.
Excellent, superb sushi!
Wasn’t a fan of the OC restaurant week menu, sushi was great though
Amazing service, food (THE FOOD!!!), and the ambience is very nice. Awesome experience at bluefin for OC restaurant week.
Thank you, Bluefin and OC Restaurant Week for the most lovely weekday afternoon meal I have shared with a friend in recent memory. The lomi lomi salmon was clear and fresh with the perfect acid, while the crab claw and tofu were not just beautifully presented, but were perfect bites. The view from the counter and interaction of the sushi chef’s was engaging and entertaining. The OC Restaurant Week value and experience were exceptional.
We didn’t realize that it was the first day of OC Restaurant Week. We went to have regular Omakase lunch. But it turned out it was a great prefixed lunch from RW menu. We love their beautiful and delicious foods and professional service by chefs and servers. Bluefin never disappoints us!
food was exceptional on the night we were there...attentive staff, good recommendations.
The sushi is excellent and the sushi chefs are pleasant. Fish is fresh and properly prepared. Many different and interesting choices. Wish service was decent. It was totally lacking and not friendly. We had a reservation for the sushi bar and were barely greeted and then were told we would need to move if a larger party came in and wanted the bar as well. Host/ server was not pleasant. Hope for a better outcome next time.
Superb sushi. Attentive, pleasant service. Noisy. Expensive.
Service could be greatly improve. When I made reservations the person at the reservations booth was wearing a very strong perfume which was disturbing. I made emphasis about a bidthday celebration, which was totally ignore. I left my cell phone on the table an when The table I spend 10 minutes talking with my guess outside the restaturant. Waiters did not make an attempt to return my phone when I was visibly outside the restaurant.
Overpriced with poor service. Stay away from the Omakase bc the appetizers are really not good and the fish is just decent for the price point.
My family’s favorite sushi in OC. It fills up fast, is a small space and is closed mid afternoon so I suggest reservations
Excellent prix fixe menu. Really delicious food and close to a Kaiseki experience in Japan.
The sushi is exceptional. Don’t hesitate to ask for recommendations. The sushi chefs will guide you in the right direction. The Blue Fin Roll is a must eat! It melts in your mouth and has some really beautiful flavors that all meld together perfectly. Definitely a great place for high quality sushi.
Bluefin is where my wife and I went on our first date and had the omakase. We have been there three times since and the restaurant is as good as ever. The owner/chef, Abe-san, is very creative with the offerings. We love Bluefin for many reasons and I hope the readers will love it too.
Good food and good service every time we are here. This is the reason we keep coming back.
Awesome experience, loved the attention to detail and the original items on the menu, the freshness of fish, had a great time, romantic intimate experience.
The restaurant week dinner was stunning. Brilliant flavors. Not cheap but truly worth the price.
Second time in one week!! Great sushi special for restaurant week. So much food, we were all stuff. Crab cake was amazing & friends who I was with don’t like crab!! Sushi is always so good and fresh.
The food was excellent as always. The testing menu is delicious fresh, innovative and prepared with smiles. I absolutely enjoyed my meal
We have enjoyed this restaurant for years. But the last 2 times the service has been terrible and the food has gotten mediocre . I don't know what has changed but last night while 3 of us had completed our dinner my wife just started getting hers. I would think serving the table all at once should be high on the list of things a restaurant should do.
Incredible food and unexpected surprise. We will definitely be back!
Their food and service never disappoint me! Bluefin is one of the best Japanese restaurants in So. California! Foods are very delicious and presentation always surprises me. It is Art! I also love chefs’ professionalism. I can’t wait for next visit!
Good as usual. The quality and taste of the food is (as always) very impressive and the service was normal. This time, we had the Newport Beach Restaurant Week prix fix menus and both the duck breast and the halibut entrees were very tasty (along with the rest of the items).
A bit over rated and over priced for what it is. I did not like the Restaurant Week selections. One was this weird awful bitter snail type thing that just looked like an ambilical cord. A simple oyster would have been much nicer. The sushi is fresh but for the prices it was not outstanding and too heavy on all the sauces. The Halibut was extremely dry. Not at all what I would expect at a high end sushi restaurant. I'll stick to my usual spot.
As always my meal at bluefin was amazing! Sushi is always so fresh. Restaurant week @ Bluefin is the best deal in all of OC
food superb as always. Newport restaurant week guaranteed lowest price.
This is such an authentic place with a Japanese chef making all the sushi. He also makes sure to greet guests on their way in and out. Very nice experience overall!
