We always had an amazing lunch here when in New York. This time we chose to have dinner. It began with our server telling us the specials but ignoring our initial request to know the cost. After our order was placed she never approached our table again. Zero interest. We would have appreciated more wine. Plates were dropped off and cleared as soon as the last bite was finished. Rather than an offer of more bread they cleared the butter. Rather than an offer of more wine they immediately cleared the glasses. The food quality was high although the plates were small and mine arrived lukewarm. Not going back.
Food quality improved since our last visit. Fish was done simply as it should be
45 minutes for our order to be taken and our waiter to come to the table. Emailed management, no response. I will never be dinning at this sub par restaurant again! Way too many great restaurants with impeccable service in the area to waste my time on Blue Water Grill.
Food has gone down and prices have gone up. The swordfish I got was tiny, and hardly any crab meat to speak off. My friend got Kampachi ribs - small potion with half a corn on the cob and some coleslaw for like $36...really?? I won’t be back any time soon.
Great service great food!!!
Our meal was excellent. The fried cauliflower is a must. The swordfish special was delicious. Our server was very nice and helpful. Highly recommend.
We wanted to hold a special farewell lunch for our boss. Everyone was very pleased with the service and food. The guest of honor had a great time.
Though expensive, Blue Water Grill is worth the $. It is beautiful, the service is impeccable and they are very good at answering what is a good menu choice. The food was plentiful but not too much. The plating was spectacular. Definitely a special occasion place and not for day-to-day meals. Really liked how they addressed my concerns about having a birthday cake at the meal.
Blue Water Grill used to be great until they reopened after their renovation. We have been going to BWG for years. It was always reliable, with very good food and service, whether for birthdays, business dinners, or just Sunday brunch. However, there is a significant decline in the quality of the food and service since they reopened. Overall, it seems they are trying to cut costs by using cheaper ingredients (eg. the lobster cobb salad is now just a mediocre seafood cobb salad and costs the same. my last main course was grilled bass which was served with large chunks of cut up tomatoes (cold) and large pieces of fried croutons - another mediocre dish where the bread took over the plate and cost $37.) We have been back there a few times after their renovation, hoping they will get back to what they used to be, but we have been underwhelmed each time. It's upsetting to see such a landmark restaurant lose its spark.
Have been coming here for year. The experience gets more and more disappointing on the food quality. Think we will leave this restaurant alone for a long time. What a shame...used to be such good food
We really like Blue water grill staff is very nice great service great atmosphere
Great ambience will be back thanks
Oysters are plentiful and many different kinds. Delish. Seafood is all prepared and cooked perfectly. I brought friends here for the first time. They enjoyed the food so much, they enrolled in the Landry rewards program before we walked out the door.
The food was very good as well as the service. Our waitress (Ms. Doyle) was attentive and knowledgeable.
I have been dining at Blue Water Grill since it opened, sadly one of facts of life for many restaurants is their shelf-life. In its heyday, the food, the service and even the frenetic noise were all wonderful! But alas, we all get old and so has Blue Water Grill, the food was okay, just okay and the service was near nonexistent. We asked if an item was available -although it's on the dinner menu- and we were told no (not even I'll check, mind you this was at 2:00 pm and there were ~6 tables with patrons-not that busy!), interestingly on other occasions the staff were most accommodating, and would provide the requested item (in this case an appetizer). I understand it is the prerogative of the restaurant to have rules, consequently we accepted the "no" . To be clear, this less than glowing review has nothing to do with the "no", but more the mediocrity of the food and lethargy of the service, and yet the prices should demand far better than mediocrity. There are well over one hundred other restaurants in the Village,Union Square and flat iron sections of the city, so competition is still fierce, too bad Blue Water Grill doesn't seem to get it anymore.
We went for our wedding dinner and our server, Levyi, couldn’t have been better. Beautiful restaurant and always one of my favorites.
The last of the three (Blue Water Grill, Union Sq Cafe & Coffeeshop) restaurants that transformed Union Square. A beloved neighborhood gem with fresh well prepared dishes, tasty beverages and a lovely & refined ambiance. Wonderful anytime for any occasion, I always bring friends here the first night they’re in town. It sets the mood.
Took my sister to NYC for her first visit and our first stop was to my favourite Sunday brunch place: The Blue Water Grill. She hasn’t stopped talking about it since!
Excellent service and accommodation to allergies was done with no stress!
We will definitely be back again !!!
Good food, but VERY skimpy portions. NYC offers far too much competition for this approach.
The food was excellent. Presentations were vert creative. We had the red snapper for two a d it was delicious. The service was attentive yet not intrusive. We felt that overall the evening was an excellent value.
The hostesses, despite we were three ladies with an early reservation and for the whole time the restaurant never filled up, wanted to assign us a tight middle table by the kitchen with servers passing on three of our sides. The was no reason why three ladies with an early reservation had to be put into an uncomfortable for an early dinner. It is just their arrogance.
The rest of the service was a 6
Food was a 5
Ambience was an 8
I would recommend to get a drink an appetizer and a drink there to soak up a bit of NY atmosphere, then move on to another restaurant for better food and less arrogance.
Came here during restaurant week. Elegant ambiance, fine dining, and the wait staff is not pretentious. Service is extremely friendly, quick and efficient Portions are not overly large. Good is delicious. Mix of cuisine from sushi to Italian seafood pasta, strawberry shortcake desert. All absolutely delicious.
Great food and service. We sat upstairs- much quieter.
I had one problem with the service prior opening. We arrived 15mins proir opening, yet were not allowed.
I have been to Greece so I was please to dine again, however: my guest never had the pleasure so I decided to have that experience with him. The food and service was what I expected it to be as well as the service.
I will attend again when I'm back in New York.
Waited 25 minutes before anyone even came to ask if we wanted a drink. Got the wrong entree. The waitperson was indifferent to her mistakes. The food was just okay. Overpriced - especially for all that mess. We used to dine there from time to time years before. It’s gone down hill. You CANNOT get along on decor alone.
My wife and I went to enjoy the prix fixe dinner during Restaurant Week. We were surprised to get a 1er cru Volnay instead of a Beaujolais for the same price ($40) as they run out if the latter. Our service was attentive, tho perhaps a bit too fast for the appetizer course. I enjoyed my sushi roll, which was a bit upmarket compared to my wife's crudites with hummus. Her branzino with cauliflower and my mussels were nicely prepared. Chocolate cheesecake and strawberry shortcake were a nice finish. Our table location, sandwiched between the raw bar and the door to the outdoor patio, was a bit off-putting, but gave us a nice view of the dining area. Good spot for the prix fixe, a bit pricy otherwise.
It had been a few years since we were last here. I will not go back. The Jazz room, which we loved, is now only open on weekends. We were told there was a single bathroom to serve both men and women. The food was mediocre at best. The drinks were terrible. The bread was okay. Such a shame since we had such great memories of this restaurant.
Great menu and ambiance. Some of the freshest oysters I have had in a while!
It never disappoints. It always feels special. Food is great. I love the atmosphere & the service is always good.
The service is always excellent and food delicious. Hopefully restaurant will continue to have its doors open.
I went there to celebrate my engagement and the staff was not only attentive, but also extremely kind and were very happy for us. Everything we ordered was delicious and fresh.
Good food reasonably priced
Our food and evening at blue water grille were outstanding the swordfish sushi and even the chicken were prepared with excellent and were absolutely delicious great wine list and chocolate mousse was amazing
Restaurant week, great food. Family occasion and easy to get to. Family lunch. The cocktails were good and the service first rate . Too hot to sit outside
Great restaurant week menu and food quality but dicey service. Had to ask for the restaurant week menu separately as well as water.
Everything was very good.
Delicious food from the ocean plus local farmers' market best, perfectly prepared and beautifully served. Our naturally lovely waitress added to our positive experience.
It was delicious and food came promptly. Staff was friendly. Lovely decor.
Spectacular offer brought me here today....$1 oysters.....delish. This was a lovely afternoon.
Went to brunch for oysters, was served a “bad” oyster. That’s excusable but the mangers attitude was not. Will not rerun.
The waiter kept pressing for us to order our entree even after we had said we will have our starters first, once we complete we will place an order for our entree.
Over all the food was delicious, but
I found the waiter to be a little pushy.
