Blue Water Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Had a great first experience here! The menu had lots of great options and same with the wine list. Certain things were a great deal and other things weren't. Oddly we had two servers, the first one came off as very confident and ready for anything while the second may have been newer and seemed unsure. He made up for everything with his charm and thoughtfulness. I'd definitely go back with my husband, possibly for valentines Day. I also highly recommend this place if you enjoy seafood!
This place is truly mediocre! The food is not much better than you might expect from a high-end chain and when you figure in the exorbitant price it ends up being a TERRIBLE experience. Let me first preface this by explaining I planned a family trip to Vancouver to primarily eat and see as much Northwest Coast Native American art as possible. We live between both NYC (a good food town) and LA (fabulous food town) so we aren’t rubes. I won’t get into details about the rushed unpleasant and patronizing service or the silly Gaelic attitude they so proudly embrace. This attitude is of course uncharacteristic with the overall loveliness of the Vancouver locals. The real problem is the utterly flavorless and really, really dull food.
The waiter pushed inexplicably the worst of the 3 oysters we had. The wine we ordered ( can I take credit for this?) was the highlight of the meal. The sashimi was cut in too big slices, too thick and were served so cold one wondered whether the fish had just been frozen. My sons sashimi tuna sesame thing was truly one note, bland with too much sesame paste. I ordered a very dull appetizer crab salad which might have been better at a nice fish shack. The wife’s main corse was inexplicable a tasteless, sauce less dull, boring, snoozy Arctic char. Finally my poor son had a pork appetizer (it appeared dry with no sauce) and even this 10yr old knew it had no flavor as he reached again and again for the salt shaker. No dessert why waste the money. THIS IS A MUST TO AVOID!
One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable, was able to help us navigate the extensive menu, explained many dishes with enthusiasm and never resented our many questions.
The food was fantastic, every dish a unique and memorable experience.
The overall feel of the restaurant was wonderful. I would recommend that anyone visiting Vancouver make this a destination. You won't regret it
Homer Street Cafe has always been a go-to for my fiancé and I. I knew I wanted to have my surprise, bridesmaid Proposal Brunch there so I reserved their private event room. The service was outstanding, no one had an empty water glass or went without a mimosa. They were really helpful with organizing the decor and cleanup of the room. I was so happy and impressed with absolutely everything. Homer Cafe continues to surpass expectations. Thank
You so much for make this important event in my life so, so special. Cheers! Angela
Three of us very much enjoyed our dinner and drinks. Service was great and food was outstanding. It was a bit too noisy with lots of people celebrating lots of things around us. People were just having fun but it chipped into our ability to hear each other in conversation and nothing absorbs the sound in this open hard-edged place. But a fine dinner out
Blue Water Café was perfect. I drove up from Seattle and wanted to experience a staple restaurant in the heart of Vancouver- this was the best. It combined fresh ingredients and seafood from the Northwest, including sablefish- so hard to find. You could taste how fresh and good quality everything was. I will definitely recommend to others.
Good food, polite, and informative service.
But just way too big and noisy / boisterous for us.
Too many diners who were more interested in being loud, getting up, posing, flash photography etc.
Just lots of bad form by many diners seemed to be the norm , and went unchecked by staff.
But the place was packed, so I guess it's operating as designed.
Just not for people interested in great food and service as opposed to being seen and partying.
We wont be back.
FWIW, We ate at Forage the next night, total opposite.
Even better service and food and the vibe/ noise/ ambiance was what a top notch restaurant should be.
This place is so amazing and it made my first date with a girl I love so special I would recommend this place to everyone lol the food was out of this world good and I've never seen food made so beautiful and unique I'm so happy to have made this my choice to bring the girl I love for a wonderful evening dinner date and I for sure will be back and I'm from a very small town of burns lake BC lol was such a great to watch the cooks work there magic right infront of my eyes and will be something I will never forget so till next time stay hungry stay foolish take care and god bless and keep up the good work 😊🤙
After reading reviews I knew I had to dine here, and I am SO thankful I did! Best meal I have had in awhile and for sure top 5 in my life. The whole experience was amazing. The food and service was out of this world. Kris our server suggested the best cocktails and food and was exceptional. Wish I could eat there everyday!
There are two dining rooms. The main room has a lot of city buzz. We were seated in the smaller dining room which also serves as the wine storage room. It was the opposite of buzz. On top of that our server took forever to help warm things up, and the whole fish we ordered was overdone. Would try it again to see if it would live up to its reputation.
The food was phenomenal. I thought I was impressed with the set menu for our wedding night but the anniversary was a level above. The oyster selection was spectacular. Waygu beef was out of this world. The seafood was nothing short on perfection. The environment was also very welcoming. It is worth every nickel.
This place has become our favorite restaurant in Vancouver! First dinner after landing! Yes, pricey as it is but to know you are getting a premium product that makes a big difference.
Must try the jellyfish! Sablefish was super buttery...like a Chilean sea bass. I wanted a little rice with my raw fish so ordered a sablefish Pressed roll.....so yummy and already seasoned with soy - the perfect amount!
Sashimi platter is a good deal - they give you good types of fish and very generous cuts!!!
Kris was good with wine recommendations ....my hubby selected two and Kris blessed one of them - and it was a great choice! Joie - En Famille!
Kris topped off our evening by offering us an anniversary dessert. Thank goodness it was the financier....anything bigger we would have had to pass. It was the perfect ending.
We will be back in Vancouver tomorrow night...made res at Tojo’s ....not sure if we should switch gears???!!! Blue Water was awesome as always!
Lastly, we arrived 5 mins after our Res time but we were still whisked away to our table...thank goodness cuz the place was sooooo busy - throughout the whole night!
