I went here for a friends birthday knowing that blue water has one of the most extensive scotch collections in Vancouver.
Our focus was Scotch but all the recommendations of food by our server were fantastic. He even took into consideration which Scotches we were drinking and what oysters or other seafood would pair best. I knew our server and that he is a Somelier but his nose for Scotch and flavours was excellent.
If you want amazing seafood, wine or Scotch, go see Sam and you will not be disappointed.
Blue Water has yet to fail me. The food is fantastic. The service is great. They have an amazing wine list and tasty cocktails. The room is awesome. Always a win all round at Blue Water.
On our Saturday, his restaurant was busy -- probably due to the presence of a big group. However, this was more than balanced by a wonderful menu, great seafood and tremendous service. We'll be back.
I recomend Blue Water to everyone, is a excellent Restaurant in every way!!!! Love it!!!
Took my BFF for her birthday dinner. Food was great. Can't say enough about the service. Waitress was so professional - very quiet, unassuming and very attentive. My friend received a card and a special treat for dessert despite the fact she was so completely full from the great dinner. Highly recommend!
We ate here last night. It was our first visit. They have two food prep areas-one for sushi and one for conventional food. The menu was heavy on sea food as you would expect and very inventive. Julie was an excellent server and made our dining experience very pleasant.
My first visit and I'll be back. Great food - fresh, delicious, beautifully presented; great service - wait staff was pleasant and knowledgeable and all interventions at the table were perfectly timed and unobtrusive; a good table (well positioned for a view of the room); sound levels at the table were excellent for maintaining our conversation and we could not hear those of others at adjacent tables and all in an open space with ambient sounds from the open kitchen and bar; good background music....who could ask for anything more?
Every morsel of food was fantastic and prepared to perfection.
I ordered the Sablefish and it was literally melt in your mouth. My partner ordered the tuna and it was cooked to perfection. Wine was perfectly paired. Presentation was inviting. The fries they make sound so exquisite you can't live without them... Are.... Fries. Not really worth the push.
The service to me was not as superb as the food, or to the level the price tag dictates. The waiter seemed rushed, not open to conversation. When I hadn't looked at the menu yet I felt like he was annoyed. I felt like they were trying to flip the table. For a nice night out... I felt like I should be able to linger and take in the full experience. Desert? No? Then here's your bill. Hmm
Me and my husband went there for his 54 bday dinner! They left a birthday card on the table before we arrived which is really sweet. We had the sampler for 4 different appetizers and all of them taste amazing!! The main course is good but not outstanding. The dark chocolate cake is truly the best I ever tasted! My main course was served 5 mins later after my husband's main course, that's why I only give 3 stars for service.
It was our 6 anniversary and after we get our table, there was a special card for us to congratulate us it was so sweet!
And the bread from the beginning was amazing with the side too.
We also ordered the for table seafood for $78
Those seafood was so fresh and so many choice and kinds that we can choose.
Staff were amazing especially our waitress Jennifer, helpful, fun and well the food was special without a doubt !! Try it out, lively atmosphere .
Been there a few times already never been once disappointed…consistent in quality of food & service. I don’t eat raw fish but my friends and family said toro is the best they have tried in Vancouver (NB they have tried some of the best sashimi restaurants in town). This is the place I will take my friends for a treat and any special occasion.
Been to Blue Water many times. Last time reinforced that it's a great scene, very energetic, but the food often does not live up to the hype. This time the service was somewhat lackluster as well.
I brought my boyfriend here and I had the most amazing experience! The food was excellent and the service was superb! The bill was definitely steep but I think it was worth it!
Delightful meal. Excellent service. Five stars all round
My favourite seafood restaurant in Vancouver.Great selection of oysters, seafood, and the wine list is excellent.Attentive service, friendly.I always have a great time there.I highly recommend this restaurant
The Blue Water Cafe is known for their fish. We started with Oysters as they always have at least 6 different types of Oysters on stock and we got a great taste of each of the types, can't go wrong with that. Second was a daily special which was the King Crab roll. Very nice roll which really let's the King Crab stand out. Bit on the pricey but that is in general for the restaurant and the ingredients they use. As mains had a ling cod and the tuna. Both deliciously prepared and with nice sauces. Dessert was a macaroon with white chocolate mousse which we shared! A bit of gluttony from our side but couldn't resist :-)
Service was outstanding with a waiter that reads your mind and has incredible knowledge! Best waiter I know in Vancouver!
Outstanding experience. Fresh, delicious food presented beautifully. Lovely, attentive, knowledgeable, but not intrusive wait staff.
Best seafood we found in Vancouver and great wine selection.
Very good food. Service was great, but the servers spoke softly that I was even able to hear some of what they said. But overall, food was great, atmosphere was great. Would definitely recommend for a friend.
Had a wonderful meal that included fresh west coast oysters followed by seafood ceviche and crab salad. Our mains were sablefish and braises short ribs. Everything, including service, was excellent. We'll be back!
Great Service, awesome food. We were greeted right away with a smile and seated right away and did not have to wait for our table even though we were early, ten minutes early. Our server greeted us within minutes after we sat down and offered us beverages and went over the specials with a smile.
We decided to have the Seafood Tower and we were not disappointed, it was so delicious, the seafood was so fresh, we also had the salad special to start, then as our main we had the Sablefish done in white miso and baby bok choy, it was so melt in your mouth, we died and went to heaven. Chef Frank, and your staff once again, thank you for a wonderful dinner and evening and will be back again.
Fantastic evening! Friend in town from Montreal and we had the best evening at blue water. This restaurant outshines everyone in vancouver. Thank you for everything.
Out for my birthday with 2 friends and 2 family members (thus not a large unwieldy group). Expected good food and service. Service too slow. Ordered 18 oysters, served 17. Good thing my son can count. Food uninspired, my sturgeon had a 'fishy' flavour. The wine arrived after we had begun the entree, so I had to forgo eating while we when through the sampling and serving of wine. I asked for a an after dinner drink not on the 'dessert' menu I was told they would have to bring me the wine list. No list, no mention again. I suggest management find some better servers or circulate the room to ensure diners are happy. (Lunch at Joe Fortes, five star service)
The food, service and ambiance are great- the miso black cod was as good as the best we have had- the menu is one of those where everything looks so good it is hard to decide. We also ate at the partner restaurant in Whistler Araxi which was equally good. This restauranteur really knows what they are doing. I am very impressed with the dining scene in BC and being from NYC this is a big deal.
Our server was a very professional and well trained server whonwas odviously schooled in the service industry...his name was Adrienne.... he made us feel at home and not out of place and we loved his crumb scoop ;-) keep up the good work everyone ;-) i cant wait to come back!!! And will certainly be looking for our fave french man!!!!!
Amazing food and the drinks were great...there was a table of 15 (8 adults and 8 small children) beside us that shared our server...he spent most of his time over there, and the table was very loud...however we have returned numerous times and still enjoy it. Try the barely legal scotch flight.
Great service at this restaurant. We were seated quickly and the server came quickly to get us drinks and menus. We asked for the stamina roll and oysters for appetizers Kiss his were delicious and the stamina roll with eel, crab and salmon was delicious. The two of us ordered the wagyu beef tenderloin and the sablefish and told the server we were going to share. Server arranged to have the dishes split in two so we could enjoy separate portions. Great idea.
Not to sound like a cliche, but wow. Really. What an incredible evening of fantastic food and service. Our party of 6 had a memorable evening thanks to the creative menu, wonderfully varied wine/cocktail list, and incredible service provided by Blue Water. Highlights are too numerous to mention, but suffice to say having lobster ceviche for the first time was wonderful, and our table really enjoyed the Swordfish special. Now I know what swordfish is supposed to taste like. It had been awhile since we had dined at Blue Water and we certainly won't make the mistake of waiting too long for a return visit.
Had a fantastic dinner. They sat us in the back wine storage room and it was great. Very quiet and enjoyable.
Never a bad experience here. There is something for everyone and everything they have is always great.
Only disappointment is a lack of live seafood, but can't fault Blue Water for the time of year.
Great food, ambiance and service!
We booked a reservation for 8pm and got there on time but they were very busy (being week before Xmas ) so we had to wait but they brought us complementary champagne and also complimentary appetizer/amuse bouche and dessert! The food was spectacular, we all ordered fish, and the service was flawless. All four of us commented that is was the best dining experience we had each had in a very long time. Highly recommended.
Found it under top 10 in Vancouver and was not disappointed with quality of seafood, service or ambience. The menu is pricey and the portions small so only used the restaurant as an appetizer. Oysters were small, even after discussion with staff which lead us to believe they are the biggest choice. I will choose Joe Fortes for fresh oysters in the future. I can't say enough about the quality, the preparation and the presentation of the food. Parking was a serious problem.
Great seafood menu with plenty of choices for every taste.
Nice selection of appetizers and sushi.
Could use a bit more BC wines on the menu though - our choices were pretty limited in trying to keep it local.
Great service...enjoyed serving 2 separate dishes of shared food. Detailed and comprehensive recommendations made by waiter. Thanks
Best Dinner out in Vancouver I've ever had.
this was not my first time here and will by no means be my last food and service are as usual outstanding can't wait for my next visit
The Blue Water has been a fav for years. They don't disappoint. The seafood is fabulous, we always end up sharing fresh oysters. The wine list is large and the servers are helpful in making choices. The atmosphere is quiet unique to Vancouver you can dress up or down and still feel that you belong. Plus you never know who you will see there. Usually someone to star gaze at.
Dinner was fantastic. We had the scallops and carrot soup to start. Both were delicious and only serves to wet the appetite further. We had a lovely Pinot Noir chosen by the sommelier along with Siberian caviar which is probably the best I've had to date. I had 6 ounces of Wagyu beef with spinache and fries while my girlfriend had the sablefish. Both were amazing. We shared a chocolate cake and ice cream which was decorated to say happy birthday with a candle.
To your average diner, this is not a cheap place and be prepared to pay in the range of three to six hundred dollars if you want to have a three course meal with a good bottle of wine.
Overall an excellent experience.
