Blue Water Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Went for lunch as no evening reservations except extremely late were available. Lunch was a much preferable experience. The dining room was only about half full so it wasn't nearly as noisy and we could carry on a conversation. Service was efficient. Food was outstanding. It's a bit on the expensive side but this was a pre-Christmas treat for ourselves. Wine list is incredible with the range of selections, and price.
This was our second and will be our last time to dine here. Attitude from host and waiter who seemed to hate his job and mediocre, overpriced seafood. Scallops were of a low quality maybe because of the time of year... so take them off the menu. The rice cakes that were served with them were hard and unpleasant. The lingcod and sablefish were okay as was the carrot soup but nothing was worth the price. There must be better seafood in Vancouver.
Went for our 2 year anniversary. Beautiful note on the table and chocolate script on the dessert plate. Appetizers and entrees were perfection. I don’t take the time to write reviews very often, but worth sharing how incredible this place is. 9.5/10 when we rarely give above an 8
Great food , service and ambience .
Bustling busy restaurant but attention to detail excellent.
Wrote my partner a birthday card and decorated the desert also - nice touch ! Mainly a specialty fish restaurant but also good options for non fish lovers like myself .
We had attempted to eat here a few times before but had to cancel. As a surprise I booked it for my husband as he had just come in from France. The food was delicious, but for us it was just the atmosphere that was a surprise. It was SO loud! We were in front of the open kitchen and everyone was so frantic that it just was not relaxing and there seemed to be a lot of pretence and exaggerated gestures outside of the kitchen as well. Our bill was over $300 dollars (including our wine) and it just felt like we were in some kind of bar/chain restaurant. I was just expecting something a bit more classy, less raucous especially for the price point.
This was my daughter’s choice for her graduation dinner. And it did not disappoint. Service was impeccable. Lovely ambiance. Food was excellent. We shared the seafood tower appetizer, because we couldn’t decide which appetizer to have. My favourite was the tuna tartare followed by the scallop ceviche and house salmon terrine (a very close second). I had the sablefish. What a wonderful flakey fish in a delicate miso broth. Just yummy. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The scallops were delicious as was the tuna entree. We had the warm chocolate cake for dessert which was amazing. And the dolce de Leche bread pudding was excellent.
Highly recommended, can’t wait to go back.
Had a great first experience here! The menu had lots of great options and same with the wine list. Certain things were a great deal and other things weren't. Oddly we had two servers, the first one came off as very confident and ready for anything while the second may have been newer and seemed unsure. He made up for everything with his charm and thoughtfulness. I'd definitely go back with my husband, possibly for valentines Day. I also highly recommend this place if you enjoy seafood!
This place is truly mediocre! The food is not much better than you might expect from a high-end chain and when you figure in the exorbitant price it ends up being a TERRIBLE experience. Let me first preface this by explaining I planned a family trip to Vancouver to primarily eat and see as much Northwest Coast Native American art as possible. We live between both NYC (a good food town) and LA (fabulous food town) so we aren’t rubes. I won’t get into details about the rushed unpleasant and patronizing service or the silly Gaelic attitude they so proudly embrace. This attitude is of course uncharacteristic with the overall loveliness of the Vancouver locals. The real problem is the utterly flavorless and really, really dull food.
The waiter pushed inexplicably the worst of the 3 oysters we had. The wine we ordered ( can I take credit for this?) was the highlight of the meal. The sashimi was cut in too big slices, too thick and were served so cold one wondered whether the fish had just been frozen. My sons sashimi tuna sesame thing was truly one note, bland with too much sesame paste. I ordered a very dull appetizer crab salad which might have been better at a nice fish shack. The wife’s main corse was inexplicable a tasteless, sauce less dull, boring, snoozy Arctic char. Finally my poor son had a pork appetizer (it appeared dry with no sauce) and even this 10yr old knew it had no flavor as he reached again and again for the salt shaker. No dessert why waste the money. THIS IS A MUST TO AVOID!
One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Our waiter was extremely knowledgeable, was able to help us navigate the extensive menu, explained many dishes with enthusiasm and never resented our many questions.
The food was fantastic, every dish a unique and memorable experience.
The overall feel of the restaurant was wonderful. I would recommend that anyone visiting Vancouver make this a destination. You won't regret it
Homer Street Cafe has always been a go-to for my fiancé and I. I knew I wanted to have my surprise, bridesmaid Proposal Brunch there so I reserved their private event room. The service was outstanding, no one had an empty water glass or went without a mimosa. They were really helpful with organizing the decor and cleanup of the room. I was so happy and impressed with absolutely everything. Homer Cafe continues to surpass expectations. Thank
You so much for make this important event in my life so, so special. Cheers! Angela
Three of us very much enjoyed our dinner and drinks. Service was great and food was outstanding. It was a bit too noisy with lots of people celebrating lots of things around us. People were just having fun but it chipped into our ability to hear each other in conversation and nothing absorbs the sound in this open hard-edged place. But a fine dinner out
