Blue Water Cafe
The striking dining room provides active views of the “East meets West” kitchen and Raw Bar. The sweeping main bar leads out to the heated patio and the private dining rooms, which hold our deep and diverse wine collection.
Housed in a handsome brick and beam heritage warehouse conversion, Blue Water Cafe is in the heart of the historic and vibrant Yaletown neighbourhood.
Please note: online reservations are available for parties of up to 12 guests. For larger parties, please call. Reservations are not required for seats at our bar.
We are just home from our dinner @ Blue Water Cafe and what a wonderful evening. It was a celebration for my husband's birthday and although noticed it wasn't "shouted from the rooftop" which was perfect. The pace of the service was just right - not rushed by any means nor did I ever get the feeling we were forgotten, it was simply perfect. The meal and wine were excellent which is expected. But the one thing which completely tipped the scale to an amazing experience was our server, Natasha - wow. Natasha was attentive, provided suggestions which is expected, but her sense of humour and ability to "playfully interact" with us made the evening so much more fun than we were expecting. I would absolutely go there again and most definitely request to be seated in Natasha's section as she added so much to our evening!
Excellent food and atmosphere. Restaurant was very accommodating to us and went out of their way to acknowledge our celebration.
Had to request bread and butter several different times, from 2 different staff. Service was slow. Not overly impressed
The service was excellent and the ambiance was amazing. Our server knew the menu well and was very attentive. Entrees were flavorful and well-cooked. We ended with banana bread pudding and chocolate cake, prepared in-house. The entire dinner was simply a wonderful experience. A food memory for sure.
Dinner with visitors from Japan
Excellent food as always
Waiter started off a bit grumpy but loosened up later on
Always a great place
My favourite restaurant in Vancouver. Good food, good service and very good atmosphere. Highly recommended!
Please don't charge $15 for a drink and have ZERO straw options.
We arrived on a cold evening to a warm welcome, great atmosphere, and courteous staff. Once seated we were happily welcomed by Jennifer, a happy, energetic and fun server who made our night even more special!
The food and wine was amazing, and Jennifer was perfectly attentive to our needs throughout the evening.
I can't wait to go back and sample more of the delicious offerings @ Blue Water!
very knowledgeable and friendly wait staff, excellent excellent food
Amazing seafood, came here for my anniversary. As someone who doesn't eat seafood often, the staff introduced the meal very well and I was thoroughly impressed with the service as well as the food. I look forward to returning here anytime I'm in the area.
Exceeded our expectations!
Excellent service by Ciara; great winelist and wonderful coffee in addition to outstanding food
Parking was difficult to find though.
A nice Time to enjoying another with quality foods
This was a most wonderful place to have dinner! We live nearby and have only been once before, but it was a special night and we took some friends, had a booth near the back. When we arrived the place was packed and our reservation was definitely needed! No waiting, straight to the booth, and despite the crowded place (every seat taken) it still felt intimate, warm, and easy to converse without having to raise your voice.
Our server quickly appeared, the most delightful server I've had in years, Brent, and he explained a few things about the cocktails and drinks before we ordered, along with a bit of campy humour and sass about what I, in particular, ordered (he was right, it turns out...I was not enthused by my choice of wine. So that became a joke for the night and I deferred to Brent for his advice for food!).
I had a fab selection of oysters, nice to try ones I have never before, and they listed them for me on a paper I took home, so i would know what I was sampling and which ones were the faves. Then came the entrees (great timing, no rush, felt like we were the only customers in the place) and have to say that my husband's Sablefish was hands down the best we've ever had. Clearly miso-glazed (possibly marinated in that miso for a day or so) and the umame sensation from it was out-of-this world.
one plate, a prosciutto-wrapped steelhead (which Brent wisely knew and informed us was not a trout and not a salmon...it's different altogether) was a bit salty . I think that was because of the proscuitto, not because of a heavy hand on the seasoning.
oh, and the person who brought our dessert needed a little more training. She didn't know what one of the components was (a very obvious component, it was prominently displayed...but it was a chocolate tuille and i gather that's not something everyone is familiar with. But she should have known every component equally, because she told us all the others on the plate save for the tuille).
Staff pleasant. Food mostly uninspired and thus significantly overpriced. We’ve had better experiences at this restaurant in the past but this particular Thursday evening was forgettable.
One of our favorite restaurants in Vancouver. We celebrated out niece’s engagement and it was a great night.
Went there 4 years ago, we are from Austin TX. Had the most amazing meal then. Put it on Bucket list. Finally knew we were going to Vancouver, first thing we did was make a reservation here. Most amazing meal once again.
It was a bit loud due to a private party, but the food as always was excellent. The special was a stuffed rainbow trout with spinach and shrimp wrapped in prosciutto - the best trout I've ever had. Service is some of the best in the city - unpretentious, professional and good recommendations.
Blue Water Café is well worth visiting again and again, both for special occasions and business meals. Great quality and variety of style. Both seafood and meats are to eat again!
Wonderful ambience and service! Food was first rate all the way through five courses and a wonderful wine list. $1400 for dinner for two but well worth it!
Wow. I gave my husband a choice between two seafood based restaurants, he chose this one and we’re both so glad he did. It was borderline the best meal of our lives. We weren’t really in need of a huge meal, but we had the seafood tasting for two and two sushi rolls and we left so satisfied. Everything was fresh, well prepared, and excellently presented. And our server was phenomenal, checking on us just the right amount; not hovering, and not distant. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for an immaculate dining experience.
We chose this restaurant because we wanted a seafood fix and were in one of the seafood capitals of the world, and it got great Tripadvisor reviews. Our meal did not disappoint, and although they were hopping on the Sat. night we visited, we felt like they were very attentive (e.g., we didn’t like the first table at which we were seated, and they generously offered to move us, not making us feel badly at all for asking.)
We had the salmon terrine and the tuna carpaccio. Both were delicious, although we would give a slight edge to the salmon terrine. We liked the preparation a bit better.
We moved on to the pumpernickel crusted sturgeon and the Ling cod. Both were expertly and perfectly cooked, mine (the Ling cod) with a yummy crust. The accompaniment to my dish was wonderful: eggplant and other vegies in a delicious sauce.
We were too full for dessert — be assured that the portions sizes here are very generous. We could have filled up in the salmon terrine alone (luckily we split our starters).
The wine service and our wait person was great at refilling our glasses and touching base with us. And I would LOVE to get my hands on the amazingly wonderful carrot/red lentil with curry spices spread they serve with the bread. It was heavenly.
Ambience is energetic but lively, with an open kitchen along most of one side of the restaurant.
All in all, a truly outstanding meal! Highly recommended.
Excellent dining experience
Our family of 4 sat at the Sushi Bar and had a wonderful meal. Thank you, thank you. Fresh, delicious, fantastic.
We visited here after an extensive research on where would be the best for an exquisite seafood dinner to enjoy during our short trip to Vancouver. We were not disappointed.
We ordered the seafood tower as we wanted to try the seafood as well as prepared food. It was the right choice. The oysters, shrimp, mussels, crab, were great! But also the rolls and the ceviche, tartare were awesome!
Our waiter was also great, made sure we were happy and looked after us really well, adding to the great experience.
I will definitely return the next time I get to travel to Vancouver. This place is a MUST!
The food is fantastic and the service exceptional. Totally recommend. Bryson made the evening extra special.
Not cheap but for a special occasion the seafood can't be beat.
Excelente food, loved the place and the ubicatiion
Excellent service as usual!
Gran lugar e increíble servicio muy recomendable
Los alimentos de muy buena calidad
Y una gran lista de vinos
Noise level was as high as a rock concert and to be honest it's abit of a distraction from how good the food and service is. Would definitely come back again.
The food was outstanding quality and the sushi recommended by our waiter was very delicious and unique. Our entre was memorable - a very flavorful sable fish prepared to perfection.
Outstanding restaurant. The food and the staff and the restaurant as a whole are a work of fine art, and yet very reasonably priced. A great value and a wonderful experience.
Lively New Year’s Eve Party. Great food as always. CAD 60 cover charge per person for New Year.
A lot of five star restaurants don't live up to the hype. This one will. Straight forward but well executed menu. Great service. And we weren't rushed thru out meal.
The poached lobster was fabulous - cooked perfectly, and our waiter was skilled and professional.
Very good food. Excellent server. Really enjoy Blue Water Cafe and look forward to returning to Vancouver and going back.
We went for a birthday celebration. The sushi selection was amazing. We tried the scallop sashimi, and the sablefish aburi. Both fantastic. We also had the pork cheek appetizer. So tender and perfectly seasoned. My husband had the tenderloin and I had the short ribs. Both highly recommended. The short rib portion was huge!!! Pistachio creme brûlée was to die for. Highly recommend this restaurant. Service was above and beyond!
Everything was delicious !! Great service :)
We enjoyed the sturgeon and the sable fish which was prepared very tasty with accompanying garnish
