What Insiders Are Saying
Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya on the Lower East Side is an ideal destination for impressing a big group of sushi, meat, or veggie-loving friends.
Simply great fish. I order the sushi deluxe and try 18 different and very fresh pieces.
We sat by the bar, not the dining room. Food was good, though portions small for price. Service was friendly!
Group of 7 at a private table, well lit and private.
Uncle came in as Blue Ribbon manager and waitstaff was having a heated row, seeing a new customer - they still didn't stop. Highly unprofessional.
We had the black cod, bone marrow (this was table favorite), fillet teppanyaki (oversauced enoki but perfectly seared fillet slices), and vegetable tempura as apps. Yuzu margarita was a lit, lychee martini serviceable. Needed to remind staff of the drinks.
Blue ribbon sushi platter was visually stunning. Quality not so much. Sushi pieces were smaller than at places like Sushi by Bou or Sushi by M, never mind Kura or Tanoshi. Fish and sushi rice also did not stick together well together, fell apart as you bought it towards your mouth. We also ordered two specials (yellow tail family & toro zanmai, so-so quality). Lull of 20+ minutes before these courses and the entree dishes of fried chicken, king crab fried rice and oxtail bone marrow fried rice. Oxtail bone marrow was deliciously rich. Long wait time was an appetite killer, many at the table noticed the lag. My mother was one of those who couldn't eat more because of this delay.
Would I come again? For the oxtail fried rice and a scallop skewer perhaps; for omakase or sushi platters? Resounding "no".
Could the service have been better? No doubt.
I was there for Mother’s day. The restaurant is nice and the service is great. But the food was average. For the price you pay, I had much higher expectations. We got the Sushi platter and at $170 - it really was disappointing. What it came with would have been maybe $80 every where else. And there wasn’t any special selection of Sushi/fish.
Very pricey but excellent. The noise level really takes away from the enjoyment of the food and the ability to have a conversation. Because of this I wouldn’t go back
Shishito peppers, house salad is best in the area, filet mignon and cabbage plate is great and obviously sushi tools are fresh and tasty.
Great sushi and sake selection. Good service.
My fave restaurant! Delicious food, great service ❤️
Great food. Service a little behind.
My wife and I went here for my birthday with my parents—I called ahead to ask about a quiet spot in the restaurant as my father is a little hard of hearing and they sat us in a private booth/room attached to the main dining room. It wasn't fully closed off — it had a window and open door way to the dining room — but it was definitely not as noisy as the rest of the restaurant, so it was great. And it seems to be the only BR Sushi location where one can make a reservation for as few as 4 people.
This was my first visit to BR Izakaya but have been to the BR Sushi soho location many times (and Brooklyn location, RIP), and have visited the one at Columbus Circle, and Izakaya lives up to the rest. The menu is much more extensive but we still went for the Sushi Omakase and it did not disappoint. The presentation for 4 people was one of the most beautiful, extravagant things I've ever seen (and eaten). Absolutely delicious. The waitstaff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Can't wait to come back here again!
Excellent all around! We will be back!
Very popular, left our name with host who promised to call in 30/45 min when table was ready. We went to Louis Vuitton and came back in 40 min and he’d almost given away our table ( no call) anyways we were seated in the back dining area and typical nyc packed in . Our waiter was very sweet and looked like a movie star. The food and sake were so very good, and my favorite dessert: green tea creme brûlée. Wonderful time
Amazing food, great staff. Obnoxiously loud though.
Sushi obviously is amazing. Filet mignon, pork dumplings and fried chicken wings are good alternatives for the non sushi eaters. Fun and lively vibes.
Calidad de ingredientes muy frescos, preparación y presentación de platillos excelente. Servicio muy amable. Sabor de comida muy rico.
We have been going to Blue Ribbon Soho for a year now, and recently discovered your Lower East Side location. We had a wonderful time and would recommend Blue Ribbon Orchard St to our friends.
Amazing Sushi, extremely fresh fish and ingredients, great service, and atmosphere.
It was fantastic, great service and recommendations and everything was outstanding
very tasty and the service is wonderful.
It's quite expensive
We ordered the Phoenix rolls and were really disappointed they were poor in taste and just not what they usually are. And for that price you expect better.
But the rest were really great!!
I frequent here because it’s always a consistent level of great service from the hosts & servers as well as great food. Always a wonderful dining experience.
Omakse was solid, but nothing mind blowing. The presentation of food was stunning. Delicious sake.
Truly phenomenal sushi. Incredible selection of toro. Expensive, but worth it.
Alles sehr gut. Besonders die Schrimp Tempura Rolle. Raum ist sehr groß, daher ganz andere Atmosphäre als in der Sulivan Street. Aber nicht schlechter.
Always a tasty treat!!! Blue Ribbon Sushi has been a “Go To Destination” of ours for years.
Great sushi . Not the best I've had, but great. Decent variety of hot dishes & apps. Only drawback, really expensive!
This was a special dinner to celebrate a special birthday. It was just the two of us. We could not have been more pleased. The food was excellent. We often have sushi. This was above and beyond. The service was warm and helpful, always explaining and answering any questions we had. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.
As always, an amazing experience. The best Japanese food in NYC and the ambiance is fantastic.
We always get the Blue ribbon fried chicken to share; hands down one of the best fried chicken in the city. I love Blue Ribbon sushi and sashimi--they have great variety of fish and everything is always delicious. We were told afterwards one of their signature dish is the fried rice. Can't wait to get it next time.
Fresh sushi, good service. Quite loud though - hard to carry on a conversation.
The food was delicious! A lot of selection and wished there were more people with us so we could have tried more.
Nice enough place. Reasonable menu. Good but not great sushi. Somewhat pricier than it should be for food/ambiance of this quality.
Sushi and gyoza were delicious! The ginger bread pudding is a must.
Sent in a last min reservation request with a private table for our anniversary and they set us up with a private booth in the back! was an amazing surprise and they went the extra mile for us. service was tops, food was as billed. great experience, need to come back and tear through the rest of that menu!
Awesome place with great service and food. My new fav place
I loved the food, but there was a few hidden fees that we werent notified about before had. And the service was a little slow. Other than that i did enjoy my time.
I’ve eaten at this restaurant before and always found the same thing: overpriced unspecial sushi. The rice was cold. The fish was OK - the sea bream was chewy. The dragon roll was mostly rice but tasted fine. The bun of my chicken katsu was flat and chewy (very disappointing). I’d rather spend the money elsewhere
Always the best! Sushi deluxe and rock shrimp are my go tooooo! Yummmm
