Blue Ribbon Sushi Izakaya Ratings and Reviews
Had their Omakase by the chefs counter. It was a tad above average and good value for money $95 per person. However the Maine uni served was disgusting and off. I endured a night of upset stomach pretty soon after leaving. Generally you can taste when uni is somewhat fresh, but the Maine uni served had a bad chemical taste to it and I know it was due to this because my partner didn’t eat the uni and I did.
The food was excellent. Greatly appreciated the server's recommendations on both specific menu items and quantity recommendations for four. Very, very good sushi!!
Don't let the fact that this is in a hotel turn you away. It's a beautiful restaurant with a separate entrance; it is in NO WAY a "hotel restaurant".
We were in the city for a holiday getaway and staying at 60LES. The restaurant has a cool vibe and open dining room so the ambience was busy and fun. However, the sushi lacked the kind of taste I expect at this pricepoint. The menu variety is nice, but the chef needs to focus some efforts on finding his or her umami soul. Service was efficient.
I had made the reservation for a birthday and totally forgot that I wanted a birthday celebration for one of my friends at the dinner. However, the waiter still remembered that I wanted the celebration and before we got our check, he brought the cake and brought it to the right person even though I had never told him who the birthday boy was. This implies that he was clearly involved in our dinner service and put 2+2 and found out who the birthday boy was. I've never had service like this where service was optimal without even asking for it.
The food was amazing but I had a few rolls so I couldn't judge if it was 5 star quality yet. However, the spicy crab roll that I had was amazing.
While the Japanese tapas were good, the sushi, particularly the specials of the day claimed to be flown daily from Japan, were certainly not up to par. Quality was certainly not high, portions were small even by top sushi restaurant standards, and prices were very high. If you want first rate sushi, it is not to be found here; seek your happiness elsewhere.
We love all the Blue Ribbon restaurants for their vibrant, friendly atmosphere with top quality food and a diverse menu. This is no exception. We had a guest who does not prefer seafood, so he was able to enjoy their fabulous fried chicken, while the rest of us shared a great assortment of sushi and sashimi and vegetable dishes.
Service was sub par. For a $200.00 meal for 2 people I'd expect a lot more. Server was ZERO help with complicated menu. For first time diners at BR, he didn't explain much, offer suggestions or opinions....just seemed unknowledgable about his own menu. So we ordered off the cusp. He was working hard, I'll give home that, but seemed more like a busbuy than server. Empty plates were left at our table waaaaay too long for a high end restaurant. Place was super loud. Food was very tasty but hard to give more ☆☆ considering the awful service. Food could have been better with guidance I'm sure. Also, some food took extremely ling to come out. It was not jammed, but even for a busy night was unacceptable to wait 25 minutes for salmon sushi and a spicy tuna roll. Come Blue Ribbon, this is NYC! Next time I'll wait for my return to Los Angeles and go to Sushi Roku!
After being sat at our table, we waited nearly 10-min for someone to bring us water and it was not busy. After another 5-min, we left and walked past the server/hostess that didn't say anything or care that we were leaving. I see why it wasn't busy. They just don't care. I hope the owner knows the staff just don't really care.
Our table of 8 had a great night. The food overall was very good. We ordered 2 of their sashimi and sushi platter for $170 and it was well worth the value and delicious. The fried chicken had been recommended but was very dry, the sirloin steak was very nice. It was very busy, but food was served promptly, the service was under pressure, it felt like they were missing some staff that night. Overall a lovely dinner.
I ate here last a few years ago and really enjoyed it. This outing was a major disappointment. The sushi was was middling at best--the rice was cold and hard.
On the plus side, our server was really, really nice. But that only went so far. I felt bad about having brought a friend here.
Food and service were pretty good, except sake portion - a glass of sake is very small and expensive compare to other nice izakaya place i.e. Hagi or Riki... Noise level is quite high, if you want to have quiet conversation with sushi, have to consider other place.
It was my first time at this this restaurant and I loved it. The ambiance was great. They make a great Lychee martini ( I had two). I had the poached egg and salmon. I loved it. My friend had the "pan" cake. It was one pancake but it was so fluffy. We were able to sample each other's dish. I definitely would return. Maybe I will try their sushi next time. The servers/ wait staff was very attentive. I never had an empty glass.
Went for Sunday afternoon sushi lunch with a friend. Had two dishes, the fried chicken wings and a sushi/sashimi platter for two. The wings, especially with wasabi honey sauce, were great. The sushi/sashimi was reasonably good, but was cut with a heavy hand. Of equal concern, a platter for 4 was $170. The waiter suggested a platter for two, which he suggested would have a greater diversity. He neglected to tell us that the cost of the platter for two was the same as the cost of the platter for 4, and there was nothing exotic on the platter for two. Certainly, at that price point it seemed a bit excessive. The noise level was quiet, but it was a Sunday afternoon, so take that with a grain of salt. The ambiance was not particularly attractive and the service was haphazard in that it took a while to get a waiter to come over, even though there was only one other occupied table.
Exquisite food, wonderful service, and a desire to please created a perfect foundation for a lovely evening.
The nigiri, rolls, and miso were top flight, passing the "uni test" for freshness and quality across the board. The cuts were substantial without being excessive, and the treatments were interesting but sedate (not too seared, a touch of wasabi on a few, just lovely).
If you like the finest sushi, prefer good choices for liquors, wines, and secondaries -- go here. Look at my username. This one makes the cut.
