Blue Ribbon Brooklyn Ratings and Reviews
Restaurant half empty and we had to look constantly for service. Beer was sour and when returned we were told it was the bottom of the keg and we could wait for a new one — all with few apologies and no recompense offered off the bill. Fortunately the food was very good
I was less than impressed by Blue Ribbon. My party of 4 stood at the front of the restaurant for 10 minutes without being greeted by anyone. I had to seek a manager to get seated. It took 35 minutes to get our first drink...which, by the way, came to the table one at a time. Food was good. Service was lacking. Will not return.
I have eaten here many times and always had top notch meals and service. But this New Year’s Eve there was something off. First I spilled my drink without a taste and they charged me for a replacement. Not cool. Then after appetizers a second server came up to our table saying he was now our waiter. WHAT???? Not cool either. Then I noticed as we were finishing our appetizers the busboy running around with our dinner on his tray looking like a list deer in the headlights. Are you kidding?? I called him over to leave the dinner on the table. I had scallops which were good but such a small portion not worthy of the price. Anyway my fiancé and I were disappointed at our experience and left a little bewildered by what happened to this once fine restaurant
The food was prepared well, lots of flavor and the salmon arrived properly hot (which is a problem I feel with lots of seafood places) the service was prompt and attentive. The decor/ambiance won't win any awards, but still a good option if looking for seafood.
I went with my husband and another couple and we all really enjoyed our meals. I started with the fried oysters and then had a seafood soup for my entree (which was one of the specials that night) and I thoroughly enjoyed them both. So much so that when the night was done I still had a cup of soup left and I packed it up and took it home. I wanted to enjoy every bit of it. I heated it up the next day on the stove and it was still just as delicious as it was the night before. I would definitely go back to this restaurant to try out some other dishes.
Restaurant was full of screaming children.
We ordered the seafood paella and was told it was good for 2 people with a little extra and then later after we finished was told it was suitable for 4 which was annoying because it was expensive.
Probably won’t go back here.
I had heard quite a lot about Blue Ribbon Brasserie over the years - all great reviews, so maybe I was expecting too much. It was my husband's 50th birthday and we wanted to celebrate with a great meal. When we arrived, we weren't greeted in a friendly manner - in fact, we weren't greeted at all. We stood around for a few minutes while restaurant staff just walked on by. A young woman finally said that someone would be right with us, then an older woman (who appeared to be a manager or head hostess) walked by brusquely, frowning. We were finally shown to our seats and waited quite a long time for the waiter to come and take our orders (the waiter was very nice though). Food was delivered at different times so we weren't able to begin our meal together. Food on the children's menu was atrocious - ordered the pasta with chicken but pasta came without chicken. By the time someone finally brought my son the (EXTREMELY tasteless & unseasoned) chicken, his pasta was cold. Definitely not what I expected given Blue Ribbon's reputation and especially for the price-point. I will not be returning.
Came here on Saturday night for my birthday dinner with some friends. It was easy making a reservation via OpenTable. Had to add another person to the party and just called the restaurant directly - no issues what so ever. The ambiance is very relaxed. Good for group dinners or date nights. The fried chicken is a MUST here!
Made reservations, had to push it an hour and the host was very helpful with that. The ambiance was nice for the date I was on and the service was excellent as the servers and the individual assisting with the choice bottle of wine were attentive. The food was good, the mash potatoes that accompanied the catfish was nothing too special. The fried chicken sandwich came highly recommended and I did enjoy that. Overall, the experience was memorable and I will be back to try other platters.
Blue Ribbon does a great job with all the basics, and sometimes that’s just what you need to make life softer and better...an ice cold martini, a juicy burger on a perfectly soft brioche bun, exquisitely crispy and salty fries, etc. We have plenty of other new American restaurants in Park Slope, but as far as I’m concerned, no one does it better than Blue Ribbon. I’m glad they are still going strong after all these years.
