It saddens me to have to write this disappointing review because previously this had been one of my favorite restaurants in Park Slope. On the plus side, the service was very good and the waiters were attentive and helpful. However, what I once thought was the areas best fine dining establishment has devolved into a place for couples in their early twenties and well-heeled families with kids to enjoy an evening out. The menu has changed significantly, with only one steak option. The noise level was obnoxiously loud, drenching the place with pop-driven music that threatened to overwhelm the conversation. What was once a terrific fine dining experience is now just another tired spot in the neighborhood. Even my chair was wobbly, showing signs of age and in need of a freshening up.
Nice spot. Our server was attentive and friendly. For appetizers we had the grilled Octopus and lobster Mac and cheese, YUM!!
Next time we’ll go for the oysters.
I have always enjoyed my Go To dish of "sweet and spicy cat fish" at Blue Ribbon, however, this time the fish was a bit rubbery and the entire meal was warm. We had the first reservation on Mother's day and maybe the restaurant anticipated a large crowd and prepared too early, causing the food to be microwaved when need. Eating reheated fish on warm mash potatoes and collard greens was disappointing. Hopefully I can go back.
The lobster mac and cheese and the buffalo cauliflower were so delicious. I’d come back just to have appetizers. Wasn’t the biggest fan of the cocktail special, a white wine sangria with pineapple rum, but once the ice melted, it was pleasant. If you don’t like super sweet drinks, you’d like it. Overall, I love this place.
Great service, the host even brought over a tide pen we my wife split something on her pants. They worked hard to make us feel special!
Oysters were delicious. Food was ok but def not worth the prices. Service was mediocre, had to get up to get waitress, ran by us 20 times and couldn't hear us yelling. Definetely not the place to go to if your looking for value for money.
Food was amazing and service was excellent. Had friends in from the west coast. Hadn’t been to Blue Ribbon in over a year. Had a great evening.
Always loved Blue Ribbon Brooklyn. For me, it was one of the more upscale and beautifully modern dining options in Brooklyn, but hadn't been in many years after having moved. While the service was great, the food was just ok. Most striking to me was how run down the actual restaurant looks. The years' wear & tear are glaring in what used to be a great looking space.
The fry chicken is outstanding!
Excellent choice for a birthday dinner with family.
My husband and I had dinner twice within a week. Great great service each time, very attentive, friendly made our experience fantastic. It is becoming one of our favorite restaurants. When leaving the bartender at the front even thanked us for coming and was just kind. This place knows how to treat their customers. And mind you the food is fantastic and the menu has something for all taste! You must give this place a try, it will become a favorite.
We have been going to the Blue Ribbon for over 25 years and since it was sold the overall experience has steadily declined. The servings were very small, the food was not prepared to our dietary specifications, the waiter was indifferent. They did give us a comp for the shrimp cocktail because we complained about the food but we will have to really reconsider going there again. In the past, everything I would have rated Blue Ribbon a 5 but now I would rate it between 1 and 2.
As always everything was great, the staff was phenomenal and the dinner was better than ever!
We love the oysters and buffalo cauliflower!
On second recent visit, the story could not be more different from the previous one. The waiter we had was clueless -- my husband had to get up and seek the waiter out to get us water, ketchup, etc. Most importantly, even though my husband spoke to the waiter directly to ask him to bring a candle with my desert, and everyone loudly kept saying it was my birthday to the waiter, plus it was written in the notes on the reservation, the desert was slammed down on the table with no candle, and the waiter was gone. While the food remains decent (although ridiculously expensive for what is really a neighborhood restaurant), the service was quite terrible. The noise level was also deafening. Disappointing.
The staff at Blue Ribbon were wonderful! The food was delicious and the atmosphere is great!
Love Blue Ribbon! Both date nights have been late, and amazing, and I’ve happily found two amazing bottles of wine on the list which I absolutely love.
Everything was okay. Service was efficient and helpful. The menu felt one dimensional and the prices were on the high side for good but not great menu choices. Maybe it is the result of high rents these days, but I felt that overall it was about 20-30% above what it should of been for all aspects of the evening.
Food and evening specials were great. No too many options for vegetarians, but the veggie fried rice was great, as was the black bean burger! Getting our initial drinks was bit slow and disjointed (I got my martini way before my friend got his beer). No one came to ask if we wanted more in a timely fashion. Wine selection excellent. Maybe just a bad night for service... Manager was nice and helpful. Overall it was all good.
Fabulous standby that delivers on every front! The food and drinks were excellent, the service impeccable, it was great to celebrate a birthday but we will be back for just a casual dinner as well. You can't go wrong!
Great experience great food
It was a birthday for me. Food, drink and service all top rate.
The wait staff is amazing. The kitchen is awful. The music was awful. Way too expensive for the experience.
Always enjoy Blue Ribbon. I went on the early side with my two kids (6,8). Had some great oysters (1/2 off before 7pm) and my kids' meals came out with them.
Though the restaurant was minimally full, it took an abnormally long time for my pork chop to come out.
When we ordered the kids' desserts, which came with their meal, that too took an abnormally long time to arrive which is odd given it was a hot fudge sundae and banana split.
But the food, as always, was good.
Perhaps because he knew the delays were not warranted the waiter did not charge me for my two glasses of wine which I appreciated.
I used to live in Park Slope and always had a good experience at Blue Ribbon, but last night the service was very off. Maybe the server was in training?? The menu also hasn’t changed much in 6 years...they need a bit of a refresh. That said, overall it was a fine experience, just not up to expectations from my memory.
Server was too cheeky/chatty, didn’t tell us the specials, forgot to bring a 2nd drink.... not acceptable for Blue Ribbon. Disappointed.
I thought I was going to Blue Ribbon Sushi, so imagine my surprise when I ended up eating bar food for an important celebration! The staff was lovely though..
My favorite restaurant in Brooklyn. There isn’t a bad thing on the menu and the service is always great.
I recently had an outstanding experience at Blue Ribbon. While I always enjoy the food & ambiance there, I recently took friends out to celebrate their wedding and called ahead to ask for a bottle of champagne to be on the table as a surprise. Everyone at the restaurant took great care of our party and provided the perfect combination of attention and not interrupting our conversations throughout the evening. I would highly reccomend Blue Ribbon for any sort of celebration- from small to large. It is obvious that the staff cares about the end result and the food is absolutely delicious! Everyone was very sweet and if you like Gin, ask for the "Smooth Sailing." It's the best!
Friendly staff. Food is consistent. Good neighborhood standby.
This was the first time I had an unpleasant experience at this restaurant. I walked in with my father (we’re frequent patrons) and told the host about my reservation. I’ve never seen him before. He says “will you guys be done in two hours? If so, I can give you a nice table. Like a REALLY nice table.” I had no idea was he was talking about so I said “sure,” and he led us to a table that we’ve sat at plenty of times, nothing special about it whatsoever. It was an uncomfortable encounter because it felt like the host thought me and my dad were stupid, and that he looked down upon us. I have no idea why though. We come here, we eat, and we tip well. It felt like the honest was trying to okay a joke on us — it wasn’t funny.
We enjoy Blue Ribbon. The food is always great and there is something for everyone. It's a comfortable place to meet with friends or just as a couple. We can rely on them for quality as well. Only problem is the music is too loud but it would still go back there.
The experience was just ok. The cocktails were bland and watery but the food was generally good. I had the pasta with shrimp and my friend had salmon. The chocolate chip bread pudding was really delightful.
Disappointed in this restaurant not as good as other Blue Ribbon places.
great service great food definitely will be back again
Place to dark, music to loud, main dish steak with brocoli was luke warm.
Prices to high for the overall experience.
Will not return.
Fun experience. Great attentive service, smiles everywhere. Perfect place for a friends get together. Lots of different options for food including great inventive cocktails.
I went by myself but never felt alone. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. Everyone dining was having a great time. And the whole vibe was cheery. Food didn’t disappoint either. Oysters, YASSS! Fried Chicken, YASSS! Amazing time, OH YEAH!
Great place for a date. Service staff was the best part! They are attentive and great. Food was on point. Prices were not bad either! Highly recommended.
Great service, the bone marrow and oxtail marmalade was delicious, and the rest of the food was good but the calamari wasn't my favorite (partly my fault as I do not prefer lightly sautéed calamari) good drinks and the atmosphere was perfect to relax while also being able to watch the super bowl which was playing at the bar. If your looking for a relaxed place to go, then this is it, nothing too fancy, but the food was a bit pricy yet I would go again for the bone marrow and oxtail marmalade.
