Blue Ribbon Brooklyn Ratings and Reviews
I went with my husband and another couple and we all really enjoyed our meals. I started with the fried oysters and then had a seafood soup for my entree (which was one of the specials that night) and I thoroughly enjoyed them both. So much so that when the night was done I still had a cup of soup left and I packed it up and took it home. I wanted to enjoy every bit of it. I heated it up the next day on the stove and it was still just as delicious as it was the night before. I would definitely go back to this restaurant to try out some other dishes.
Restaurant was full of screaming children.
We ordered the seafood paella and was told it was good for 2 people with a little extra and then later after we finished was told it was suitable for 4 which was annoying because it was expensive.
Probably won’t go back here.
I had heard quite a lot about Blue Ribbon Brasserie over the years - all great reviews, so maybe I was expecting too much. It was my husband's 50th birthday and we wanted to celebrate with a great meal. When we arrived, we weren't greeted in a friendly manner - in fact, we weren't greeted at all. We stood around for a few minutes while restaurant staff just walked on by. A young woman finally said that someone would be right with us, then an older woman (who appeared to be a manager or head hostess) walked by brusquely, frowning. We were finally shown to our seats and waited quite a long time for the waiter to come and take our orders (the waiter was very nice though). Food was delivered at different times so we weren't able to begin our meal together. Food on the children's menu was atrocious - ordered the pasta with chicken but pasta came without chicken. By the time someone finally brought my son the (EXTREMELY tasteless & unseasoned) chicken, his pasta was cold. Definitely not what I expected given Blue Ribbon's reputation and especially for the price-point. I will not be returning.
Came here on Saturday night for my birthday dinner with some friends. It was easy making a reservation via OpenTable. Had to add another person to the party and just called the restaurant directly - no issues what so ever. The ambiance is very relaxed. Good for group dinners or date nights. The fried chicken is a MUST here!
Made reservations, had to push it an hour and the host was very helpful with that. The ambiance was nice for the date I was on and the service was excellent as the servers and the individual assisting with the choice bottle of wine were attentive. The food was good, the mash potatoes that accompanied the catfish was nothing too special. The fried chicken sandwich came highly recommended and I did enjoy that. Overall, the experience was memorable and I will be back to try other platters.
Blue Ribbon does a great job with all the basics, and sometimes that’s just what you need to make life softer and better...an ice cold martini, a juicy burger on a perfectly soft brioche bun, exquisitely crispy and salty fries, etc. We have plenty of other new American restaurants in Park Slope, but as far as I’m concerned, no one does it better than Blue Ribbon. I’m glad they are still going strong after all these years.
I used to LOVE LOVE LOVE Blue Ribbon. We probably will not return. We had dinner there earlier this week and was annoyed by the ambiance and the manager's attitude before we even tasted the food.
We had an early reservation as it was my mom's birthday and she needed to drive home. The restaurant was basically empty when we arrived and we were seated at a perfectly lovely table. Then, the tables RIGHT AROUND US were being filled with tables of families with children. Loud, out of their seats, time to do homework during dinner while others are trying to enjoy some adult out of the house time - children. Who seats this way in restaurants? First of all- spread it out. Secondly- do not pile tables with children on top of childless tables. Is this Chucky Cheese? $28.00 for Fried Chicken says, No, it is not CC.
Then, we asked to move and sit on the other side of the restaurant- still empty save for one table of an adult couple actually enjoying their dinner. The worst part was the manager who came over with attitude and gave us a heaping amount more when he spoke. As if, we were monsters wanting to move. He informed us that they do get a lot of children... and argued with us when we said it never used to be that way. He could not have been less understanding and was just kinda dicky about it. He was not in the least bit customer oriented or professional. Children are children. It was not their fault. It was the fault of their parents and the inept staff. We probably will not be returning. I can find $28.00 fried chicken elsewhere.
We'be been there many times, and the food is great. The service started off great, although we had to wait a bit for the two drinks we ordered. As the meal went along,
the timing of service got much slower (I think one person went on a dinner break), and at the end, we waited almost 15 minutes to get a small dessert for our son. So, food was great, service slipping.
One dish, which was shared by three people, was tagged at $142. We were in a celebratory mood, but still....
Also the desserts, the most important part of a meal, in my humble opinion, were quite undistinguished,, although priced well above the simple scoops of ice-cream, creme brulee, and bread pudding which constituted them.
Still, I'm planning to go back. And planning to order the $142 paella. It's Park Slope, and people seem to pride themselves on paying twice the price for half as much.
Best oysters around . Phenomenal. Dinner was tasty as always . Took a while for drinks but was completely satisfied till the bill came . $245.00 for 2 ppl . I thought they could have given a pc of cake complimentary for my wife's birthday . Alittle tacky for the large bill .
Thoroughly enjoyed our pre Barclays event dinner. Took me awhile to narrow down the choices since I was torn between 2 fish selections, a burger, or the Octoberfest inspired short rib goulash with spetzels, mushroom and onion. The goulash won out and was sooo good. I am not a big eater, but I scrounged every morsel. My husband was equally impressed with his grilled 1/2 chicken over sautéed spinach. Professional service was attentive but unobtrusive. Small but adequate draft beer selection. Sold on Blue Ribbons.
Great land and sea, the clams were perfect I didn't order enough. My wife loved the ribs and we both had the fried wings which were pretty damn good! My wife and myself have been to Blue Ribbon a few times over the years and haven't had a bad experience we definitely recommend this place!
We have been dining at Blue Ribbon for years now and have never been disappointed. We mostly get the fried chicken dish which is outstanding. We had the Caesar salad and it's the real thing. The atmosphere and staff are excellent. We would highly recommend.
