High energy spot overlooking the Santa Monica boardwalk.
We had a layover in LA and BT was recommended to us, it was delicious and hit the spot! So good!
Too expensive for the size of portions. Quality of the food was good but not great. Service was above average p.
Great service + nice location + epic tacos = outstanding afternoon lunch
I felt like the food was cold when it arrived to our table which was disappointing for the price. It was a very loud environment and our group of 6 people couldn’t even have a g conversation unless you were talking to the person right next to you
Was in town for the weekend and went to Blue Plate after seeing reviews on Open Table. In general, it was a fine meal. The food (beef and chicken fajitas and shrimp tacos) were good, as were the chips and guac. Can't speak to the drinks as I only had a Corona. The tables are very tiny and close together, so trying to assemble the fajitas was a challenge as there was little room for all the plates. The server was friendly and attentive. We sat on the patio and it was a cold, windy night, which made my seat (next to an opening in the awning) a little uncomfortable. On a nice night, it would be a good spot, and fun to watch the passersby, as well as the ocean. Otherwise, maybe an inside table is better.
There was only one bathroom with a long line. The tacos were cold and the enchiladas were underwhelming. Not really Mexican.
Service was great! Food always delivers! Great spot!
Please get a new hostess. She didn't acknowledge anyone who walked into the restaurant, was on the phone and wouldn't make any eye contact.
Our waitress on the other hand was fantastic!
Great margaritas, multiple salsa options, great queso fundido and tremendous lobster tacos
The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The food, drinks and atmosphere were great. The noise level was super high...the table next to us was loud...felt like they were on top of us. There was no heat inside the restaurant. It was a bit cold and uncomfortable. Other than that we had a great time.
Tables continue to be way too close together
Take the blankets off the chairs during the warmer weather or days - makes the close seating even worse
Great food makes up for it- chips and salsa are very fresh
Market salad with chicken is to die for- fresh grilled corn makes it special
The fish tacos were the best you’ll ever have! Great ambience and view.
Birthday celebration, great as always!
Great shrimp tacos and an easy walk from most of the hotels by the ocean in Santa Monica
Great spot in Santa Monica for sunset and people watching! Tacos are tasty, heaters and blankets were a nice touch on a brisk January evening :)
As to expected prices were high given the area. Thought it pricey relative to food quality. By no means not good, just not special. Margaritas were good and so on service
The food is good, but if you go there in the winter, you better wear real warm clothing since most of the restaurant is virtually outside, and the inside is just as cold with the doors constantly open. It's quite loud too.
Not too far from the Santa Monica pier, right on the street, it's a casual, lively restaurant!
DON'T PARK AT THE SHORE HOTEL if you are dining at Blue Plate Taco, even though they validate for 2 hours. I parked there and my window was smashed and some Buds stolen. The Shore Hotel does nothing for you if your car is vandalized and items are stolen. The same thing happened to 4 other cars that night----the Security there is USELESS.
Had lunch with my spouse. Great food and margaritas. Will definitely be back.
Great food! Nice restaurant! Great experience!! Great drinks!
We arrived early to our reservation and they worked quickly to get us seated. Great food!
Shrimp tacos were average. Service was ok. Overall, I would try a different place in Santa Monica.
My mom and I had a layover in LA for a few hours so we stopped here. Food was amazing and our server was great, he even recommend some drinks that we enjoyed. My only complaint is the noise level outside but that’s to be expected. Great place.
Picture a seaside patio with a view of the Santa Monica ferris wheel and ocean. Mix in a casual vibe coupled with polished service and a Mexican menu with enough unique preparations of the standards that your mouth starts watering as you read. This is Blue Plate Taco. I couldn't decide between the lobster taco with a chipotle sauce, the veggie taco with wilted greens, peppers, pumpkin seeds and goat cheese, and the shrimp taco with a cilantro toss---all served with a side of chopped mango to sprinkle inside. The server said--have all three, and I did. I don't know which one was the best. The cocktail menu has some creative options, too, and for those that don't drink there's fresh watermelon or pineapple spritzed in sparkling water. Great spot!
Meh, pretty good. Our waiter could of been more attentive, it wasn’t that busy there. Good location but you’re not walking out of there under $150 for two. All the eateries are way over priced in that area, taking advantage of the tourists, hell why not! Gouge em!!
Tuna tuna tar tar. Was very good.
One of our favs
Food here is extremely good! Great views and just a lot of fun!
Great food, great service. Good clean healthy Mexican is so rare to find. Such great quality food.
higher end tex mex, very good. great if you like tequila not so good if you like craft beer. service outstanding. good vegetarian selection.
Blue Plate Taco has a great ambiance. It's well decorated & has great views of the pier & ocean. However, for the quality of the food it's quite overpriced. It's definitely not authentic & doesn't have much flavor. There are far better, more flavorful options of Mexican food in LA.
Can’t beat the sunset views while enjoying tasty margaritas and good Mexican food. We enjoyed the fish tacos, the steak tacos and veggie enchiladas plus chips and salsa. A fun atmospher. Love that blankets are provided for those chilly coastal evenings. We’ll be back.
Best fish tacos I’ve ever had!!
The Lobster tacos are just as good as everyone raves about! We had the steak, fish and lobster tacos to share. I wish that we had only shared two plates because you had to role me out of there afterwards. We also had a half plate of guac and chips which I highly recommend as opposed to the full if you plan on eating a regular size dinner afterwards. The ambiance was amazing we went around 5:45 planning on watching the sunset and we're seated right outside, it was beautiful. The margarita wasn't what I was expecting, I got the classic but wish I got one that was a bit jazzed up. Then I had the white sangria which was amazing but very sweet. My husband got the red sangria which was delish. Overall a great experience.
Situated on the bustling and visually entertaining Ocean Ave in the heart of Santa Monica, overlooking the famous Santa Monica Pier, this place is definitely a neighborhood gem. Every now and then, when I get an itch for snoozy sunset margaritas and no frill fajitas and this is the place to hang out. Be sure to ask for patio seating since the epic sunsets and eclectic crowd watching will add to your overall dining experience.
Excellent food and service!! Favorite restaurant in Santa Monica!
