Blue Plate Oysterette was inspired by East Hampton summer lobster bakes and mouthwatering lunches at Montauk’s favorite roadside eateries. With influences like Pearl Oyster Bar and Mary’s Fish Camp in New York, Oysterette serves lunch and dinner seven days a week with a menu straight out of the seafood shacks you find on the East Coast. Chunky, overflowing lobster rolls, buckets of steamed clams in broth so flavorful that bread demands to be dunked, clam chowder, mussels in broth, ceviche, and raw shellfish so fresh you can smell the ocean. Unfortunately, even though we had told them it was a special occasion, the host treated us quite poorly. We had been to Blue Plate Oysterette several times before and had never been treated with such disdain and a lack of caring. It was terribly windy outside and even though we had reservations, confirmed them several hours in advance and had indicated it was a special occasion, our choice of tables was either a two person high top my 6'1" husband couldn't fit in, or a table RIGHT by the door of the restaurant which is opened several times a minute for outside service. The blast from the wind each time the door opened was VERY cold. There was indeed an open two-top table tucked in to the back of the restaurant that we asked if w could have but were told that it was reserved. We watched for an hour as NOBODY sat at the table. Just as we got up and paid, someone sat at the table, a full hour after we were seated.

Additionally, the fried calamari was NOT fresh. When a restaurant serves frozen seafood, especially a relatively high-end seafood restaurant, they should tell the patrons what they are getting. It was rubbery and really not good at all. The calamari in the ceviche was nice. But the fried appetizer was as far from fresh as could be.

A truly disappointing evening and a real turn in the wrong direction for Blue Plate Oysterette.

We had reservations for an early Saturday night. Our reservation was honored on time and a table ready with the requested high chair. We preferred to sit outside, but because of the high chair, it would be too cramped with 4 adults. Inside was nice though. The best thing about our dinner was the excellent service by our waiter Ted G. He made everything easy, and never hinted about being bothered with "another request". He was adorable and so friendly, as well as very efficient. The hour travel time to get to this restaurant was worth it. The food is well prepared and everything tasted great. Not a huge menu, but it's not a huge restaurant. We'll be back!

We love Blue Plate Oysterette! There is no place that can compare to the quality and variety of fresh oysters on their menu! It’s the perfect place to sit outside on a sunny afternoon with an ice cold beer and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere on Ocean Ave. It was my husbands birthday this weekend and our waitress was so sweet to bring him his favorite Key Lime Pie with a candle! Great experience and great food!!!

Went here just to try oyster rockefeller. So I ordered it half dozen for 18$ and when they served it I was like “this is it?” Oysters r too small. But it taste good, i liked it. Its ust really small. Not really worth it lol might as well order the raw one lol

We were disappointed in the service. We had made a reservation thru OpenTable. We arrived a few minutes early and were told to wait while they cleared a table. This was totally fine and expected. But as time went on we saw some other people come up who did not have reservations and seemed to know the greeter. They were given tables before us. That was ok but our wait stretched to 20+ min. We finally did get seated right by the front door which was too windy and cold for us. The greeter offered to adjust the wind shades but never did. We asked to be relocated to a different table away from the front but again no luck. We waited about 10 mi n for S different table and finally decided to leave.

The first time we have a quieter corner table outside. We loved the food and great service. Returned a week later. Unfortunately we couldn't get the same time and were out in front. The fish was great, but the carrots were hard and inedible, the music was loud and and we were freezing as the heaters were not close to us.

Loved the food and the atmosphere. However, the prices online are deceiving.

All entrees are a la carte. And, the portion sizes are minuscule. $18 for 5 ounces of sole. Hmmm.

Appetizer of fried calamari is $17 and the portion again is small.

Overall, we enjoyed ourselves—but—we won't go back. Too many other choices for the same food and experience and more value for the money.

2 orders of sole (5 oz each with nothing but a lemon and dip on the plate)
2 beers (on tap)
1 split salad
1 fried calamari
Total: $93.23 (not including tip)

Good service but way overpriced for their portions. Food was good but not worth the overprice rates. Had a Halibut (one of the fish of the day) $32 - swear it was the size of my palm hand. Extremely salty lobster mac n cheese, which was one of my favs. No need go back.

I love this place. It serves great seafood with an ocean view. Met my friend for lunch. I usually sit outside but it was raining so we opted for indoor seating. We shared the raw oysters for a starter. Can’t remember which ones we had but they were briny and plump, just the way I like them. I had the “undressed” lobster roll - the lobster is served warm with only butter, no mayo. I love this dish. There’s plenty of lobster and the roll is soft and slightly sweet. It rivals anything I’ve had in Maine. The server was friendly and courteous. It can be pricey but that’s pretty standard given its location. Great place for lunch.

Good was very good. We shared the shrimp and crab salad and the rainbow trout. Salad was very tasty but only had 1 shrimp. Trout was ok but the portion was small. We did order a side of baby carrots that were very yummy and the portion was ample. For dessert we shared the key lime pie. Presentation was unique but the pie was soupy and crust was not that good. The server was excellent and very helpful. The neighboring tanks had the seafood tower and it looked excellent.

We go out of our way to eat at Blue Plate. Small but quaint. Staff is amazing. Always get good service. Food is delicious and prices are very reasonable.

The lobster Mac and cheese was fantastic and I loved the lobster rolls. We had oysters and they were fresh and delicious. I thought that the fish and chips was little heavy on the coating. But it was a wonderful dinner.

We had a wonderful experience. I was worried when we got there as it was cold and they offered outdoor seating...even though we had a reservation for inside, but they came through quickly with a nice table and we had an exemplary meal. Oysters were excellent, fish terrific.

Food was not stellar, just a step above a chain like Cheesecake Factory. Heavy and greasy. The atmosphere was a cold windy and noisy evening spent on what seemed like a curb of a busy street.

The food is excellent, albeit a tad pricey. The oysters were delicious and very fresh. We had lobster tacos and swordfish, both of which were very tasty. They have an excellent wine selection too. We sat outside on the patio which was cute with string twinkly lights, but is was a little cramped. My boyfriend is 6’5” and he had some trouble getting comfortable, the tables are very close together with little legroom. The patio is so cute though that we didn’t mind the tight squeeze too much. Would definitely return!

Changes to the menus was really disappointing. Looked forward to the tuna tartar on crostini. The changes were a spicy sauce overpowering the tuna. Completely ruined the dish. Ordered my favorite shrimp in pesto invert linguini. Put gulf sized prawns in it. Tougher than the bottom of my shoe. The pasta was swimming in the pesto. Felt like gravy. Couldn’t eat it. Was offered free key lime pie. You can keep it. You ruined my favorite restaurant in Santa Monica.
My dinner date ordered the striper bass which was hood but the portion size was extremely disappointing for the money. There’s a ton of that fish available in the surrounding waters. You could have been more generous with the offering.
Sadly, I’ll be seeking out a new favorite spot.
While we were told by the manager to try new things-
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

If you go before 5:30 don't park in the lot ext door, $2.50 for 12 min or $22.00 all day, ouch! Great oysters!

Very good service but the seafood was unremarkable. Best thing was the side sauteed spinach and garlic. It is a great location and if it's not too cold you can sit outside and look at the spectacular ocean view. This is of course the reason to go and the reason that is it quite expensive for the food quality and ambiance.
One thing: we were there early to catch the sunset and the music was pop and EDM played too loud for conversation. The waiter kindly lowered it by half but it was still annoying and not a great dinner soundtrack.
