About Blue Plate Oysterette
Blue Plate Oysterette was inspired by East Hampton summer lobster bakes and mouthwatering lunches at Montauk’s favorite roadside eateries. With influences like Pearl Oyster Bar and Mary’s Fish Camp in New York, Oysterette serves lunch and dinner seven days a week with a menu straight out of the seafood shacks you find on the East Coast. Chunky, overflowing lobster rolls, buckets of steamed clams in broth so flavorful that bread demands to be dunked, clam chowder, mussels in broth, ceviche, and raw shellfish so fresh you can smell the ocean. Filling the void in the Westside restaurant scene for a casual, beachy, seafood restaurant and buzzing neighborhood vibe appealing to both surfers and studio heads.

Blue Plate Oysterette Ratings and Reviews
Blue Plate Oysterette is one of our favorite go-to's for seafood in Santa Monica. We always take an outdoor table to enjoy the sunset and Pacific ocean air. Great oyster selection from East and West coasts and a great menu all around. Always great service with staff who seems genuinely pleased to do their jobs.
Everything was excellent. The clams with the bellies were excellent and rivaled anything in Nee England. The crab cake was just as good and full of fresh crab meat. What an enjoyable night. Service was spectacular and all of the wait staff was friendly, fun, energetic, and very professional. We will be back.
Starting to think all the restaurants on Ocean Drive are tourist traps, serving very bland, mediocre food at high prices. So overrated. My lobster came out raw and had to go back to the kitchen. It took forever for it to come back too and this is from a seafood restaurant. Service wasn't great and we had a large party. The maitre d was pretty snarky too. Overall, yuck.
SPECTACULAR PLACE!!! Everything is AMAZING. We are foodies and this place has Delicious food, fresh oysters (exotic), friendly / fast service and great wine list to nicely complement the menu.... plus by the beautiful Sta Monica waterfront! It can’t get better than that.
Met my cousin here for lunch. Have been here a few times for lunch. We split the grilled octopus as a starter. Nicely cooked and tender. Seasoned with bits of bacon and spices. Excellent. I had the lobster roll. It was offered either cold with mayo or warm with butter. I had it warm with butter as recommended by the server. Very generous portion of steamed Maine lobster in a soft roll. It was so good I could have eaten another if I wasn't already full. It was even better than the ones I've eaten in Maine. My cousin had the shrimp cobb salad. I tell you, they do not skimp on the seafood. We sat outside and had a nice view of the ocean. Service was good and attentive.
AWFUL SERVICE, we showed up for our reservation at 11am and told they were closed and did not open until 11:30 am that day because a festival. Well they should have changed their times with open table or called people they had the reservation in the time slot that they were not open for that day as a heads up, but they did not. They were very rude and unapologetic. We still decided to come back at 11:30 when they opened and both host were just sitting around chatting not acknowledging us. Took forever for our server to come over, there was only one other table dinning. The manager did not stop to check on us but did ask the other table how everything was. Also he was standing at the host stand when we left and no one was around and did not say Bye or Thank you for coming
The impression from the street is that of a popular, busy place for regulars. Please disregard all the business. Yes, it is busy. Yes, it is on the main ocean drag. No, it is not worth stopping there.
Fair Oysters Rockefeller. Poor Crab/Shrimp Louie salad. Edible sautéed artichokes. Good wine.
Lots of other choices. They could very likely be better.
We love this restaurant. I am a local regular. But I must say I was a bit disappointed this trip. 7pm on a Saturday night and they had run out of two beers AND the artichokes. You would think that they would be stocked up for a Saturday night. So frustrating but will definitely go back as some of the best seafood around.
The staff is very friendly and accommodating and the people watching is good, especially if you sit outside. They provide blankets at the outdoor tables in case you get cold. The food was fresh and good, but the portions were small. A glass of decent chardonnay cost $16 for a very small pour.
This has been a go to spot for me for ages and I've loved it... The past couple of experiences I left disappointed - they seem to be too busy, so it takes ages b/f anyone comes to see you and take a drink order. The people are nice and are working hard, but that's not acceptable to me to have to wait 15 minutes for someone to come by to greet you... This time they served me Oysters that were literally the size of my thumb nail - pretty ridiculous... I'll go back and give it another shot but I feel like they have slipped a bit on the service and product side...
Not accepting reservations after 6:30 during prime dining hours for your small restaurant in one of the biggest tourist areas in the country is a huge slap in the face to loyal customers over the years, like myself. It shows you have no interest in providing your guests with the convenience of being able to reserve a table at a specific time. I'll take my business elsewhere and your establishment will suffer not because of me alone but because youre alienating a core set of local and loyal customers who work on a schedule (to be able to afford your $4 oysters). Good luck serving mostly tourists who wont tip or tip next to nothing to the fantastic staff who maneuver through a tiny, crowded and loud restaurant to serve your guests. Its disgusting and i hope it hots your bottom line and that youre forced to reconsider. Until then, you wont be seeing me.
When my brothers from San Diego and Santa Barbara asked where we should meet in Santa Monica, I immediately thought of the Blue Plate Oysterette. The atmosphere is European casual and the wait-staff is very entertaining. A great full spectrum seafood restaurant - with chicken or mac n cheese for land lubbers.
The place is very nice and you can see a little bit of the Santa Monica Pier if you sit outside, service is really good as well, wait time for food is alright but be prepared to spend around $30/person. Overall would definitely come back and would definitely recommend to a friend who wants to enjoy a nice meal.
We had a great experience here with a couple of friends visiting from Palm Springs, they wanted the ocean view experience and great sea food, we got that and outstanding service as well..we had the lobster rolls dressed and mine just warm and with the butter was perfection, I had the coconut brown rice as a side dish unexpected but delicious as the other side dishes as well. We ordered 2 bottles of wine and I had a beer refreshing and lite, oysters perfect and the fried calamari delicious, all in one a great meal and since two in our party just had birthdays they gave us free ice cream chocolate mugs with birthday candles. Thoughtful!!!
