Blue On Highland Ratings and Reviews
The Mrs and I had a chance to dine without the kids and didn't want to drive into the city. We booked a table for Saturday night and had a really nice meal. We were seated as soon as we arrive 7:40 for a 7:45 pm reservation. The place was packed and yet was not overly loud. Colleen set us up with water, bread and checked in on us while monitoring her many tables. She explained the two size wine glasses for sale and gave us good tips on the menu. We ended up spitting the mussells (awesome broth) a couple of glasses of wine in addition to our entrees. I had the prime rib - very tasty and the Mrs. enjoyed the lamb kabobs. The place started to clear out around 8:30~8:45 after the rush. we declined dessert. would go back again.
My husband and I needed a lighter dinner before an event. Our wonderful server suggested a Cranberry Mule to start that was great- not too sweet. We shared the Tuna Poke appetizer and it was amazing, both the tuna itself and the seaweed salad on the side. We each got salads- the Caprese with Chicken and the Thai Steak Salad. I didn't try the Caprese but my husband said it was delicious. The Thai Steak was perfect- very flavorful, good texture, and spicy without being overwhelming. I haven't ever had a bad meal at Blue, but this one was the best so far.
Very nice evening. The staff was flexible and accommodating as we had one couple that couldn't make it. Service was good and the waitress was very knowledgeable. Food was well prepared and the pace was just right. A little loud at times due to the proximity of the bar, but only occasionally.
The experience started out poorly. The hosts were very rude. I had a reservation and requested a booth, they were all empty but we were told we couldn’t sit there. I told them I would wait, I said I would get a drink at the bar and to let us know when we could sit. They never sat us, and there were open booths. I’m not sure what the problem was with us sitting in a booth, but we stayed at the bar because they never came to seat us. The bartender was great and the food was good which made the experience better.
From the moment we sat down, to the end of our disgusting meal, everything was horrible! The quality of the food was inedible! Our waitress appeared in a rush the entire night and did not appear happy with her job! Two of us ordered Chicken Piccata and two of us ordered tbolognese. All of our dishes were gross! We have eaten in hundreds of restaurants and we've never had such an unpleasant evening, from the waitress to the food. One chicken piccata was returned because it was burnt. It was taken back and redone. The second one that arrived was dry and tough. There were no capers and the sauce was weird. Not a piccata sauce. The two people that had the bolognese couldn't not even eat it. If any of it was eaten, it was because they were starving at this point. Then the bill came! ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS PER COUPLE!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? What a rip off! NOTHING WAS COMPED! NO DESSERT ON THE HOUSE! IT WAS A NIGHTMARE!!!! NO MANAGER EVEN CAME OVER TO SEE IF EVERYTHING WAS OK!!!! SHAME ON YOU!!! I will be sure to let all my friends and acquaintances know that BLUE ON HIGHLAND is a HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!! PLUS IT WAS SO NOISY !!!!!
We went with friends last night. It was very busy and the service reflected it. Terrible is generous to say. I ordered a starter and the waitress comes back 15 minutes later and asked us if we’d like a starter like we never ordered it. I ordered the bolonese. It was not bolonese sauce. It was awful. They substituted mushrooms for meat and made a spicy sauce that has no relation whatsoever to bolonese sauce. I don’t know what they were thinking but they should either learn how to cook Italian or take it off the menu. We won’t be going back.
Ambiance is enhanced by the jazz music at Sunday brunch. Service was fine. Food was okay. My eggs Benedict tasted good, but the mixed greens that accompanied it were saturated with vinaigrette and very wilted. Home fries could have been hotter and crisper. Husband enjoyed his omelette which was prepared as he requested it. His butter was too cold to spread on the delicate toast without tearing it.
My second time at Blue (first time was for lunch). The drinks are generous, the food was superb and the service was impeccable. I ordered a Manhattan on the rocks, and it was perfectly made and presented. I shared the chicken chipotle egg roll appetizer, which had a wonderful combination of heat and flavor. I had the nightly special -- roast chicken risotto with onion and something else. It was really good, and I'm glad I ordered it. Normally, I'd order a fish dish, and the menu had a wide selection of seafood to choose from.
There's plenty of parking (free and 6:00 pm), and a great bar scene. Although I didn't review Blue after I had lunch there, the experience was so enjoyable that I met my daughter there for dinner.
While there are many restaurants to choose from in the Western suburbs, Blue on Highland is high on my list of "go-to" restaurants. I'll be back.
Birthday dinning out. My wife and I went to Blue to celebrate my sixty-eight b-day. We had the southwestern rolls fro an appetizer-tasty with a little tang, followed by a side ceasar salad-fresh- and both had the NY steak-well-seasoned and perfectly cooked and ended with a chocolate lava-cake-moist and rich. Tis is the second time we had the same entrée and appetizer and would go again for the same.
My first time eating and it was worth the drive from Cambridge to have dinner with colleagues who were in town and staying in Natick. The service was great and our server did a great job recommending dishes. Loved the guacamole as an appetizer. The salmon was perfectly prepared with a great sauce and the parm risotto was outstanding!
Usually, this restaurant is very good ... it must have been a very off night! The server messed up every part of our order ... the bussers were bringing the wrong dishes to tables. I ordered white wine and was brought red. I told him to stop before he poured and yet still poured it into the glass. The food had hair in it. We didn't even bother to send it back due to all the repeated screw ups.
I've eaten here dozens of times and this was the WORST experience - by far!
Our girls night get-together unanimously decided on this place as we wanted prime rib. All of us ordered a queen size (12 oz) prime rib. It was all made to perfection as it was printed on menu, rare to medium-rare. The dish included baby roasted potatoes which came out pipping hot, but I thought was a bit dry even for a baby size when you pop an entire potato in your mouth. Garlic broccolini was good and made al dente. It wasn't bitter like broccolini is normally. The au jus was just right for the steak. The cut was good too. Not too fatty. I don't recall any horseradish sour cream and I'm usually one for horseradish with my prime rib. I guess it was that good that I didn't need it.
Two glasses of red wines were ordered: Merlot and Malbec. Decent wine selection and a 2-page selection of IPA beers and cocktails. Ice tea was served in a large drinking mason jar, ice filled to the tippy top. Caesar salad was delicious with their house made caesar dressing and shaved parmesan. Chocolate lava cake was good too. It could have used a bit more "lava". Good thing there was vanilla ice cream accompanying it. I would definitely go back for the food and service. Our waiter was fast! He came back with my salad and then with our dishes at the same time. Timing was great with drinks too. The dining area was a decent atmosphere for conversation. I did however notice the table we were at which sat for four had a partisan that separated another party for two. The partition was a bit low in my opinion so at times I locked eyes with person on that side of the table. Other than that, it was a great evening for good conversation and food. The bar area at the front of the restaurant was jammed pack. Not a seat empty and lots of standing customers near bar.
