Blue Mermaid - Argonaut Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Though the food was fine, the service was awful. The hostess approached guest unprofessional and rude. The waitress would disappear for a long time and wasn't familiar with the menu. Our apps arrived long before our drinks. It wasn't busy to reflect such poor service.
Great ambience. Unfortunately we saw our waiter three times - when he took our order, when he brought food and when he brought our bill. Never stopped in to see if we needed anything. Had to flag someone down for salt & pepper shakers and ketchup. Too expensive for the lack of service and hospitality.
I chose the Crab Corn Chowder in the bread bowl, along with a side of fried Brussels Sprouts. The portion sizes were very generous, the chowder was like a party in my mouth! So delicious! The bread bowl tasted like it had just come fresh out of the oven. The Brussels Sprouts were fried to perfection. I look forward to going back one day!
We went for a staff appreciation dinner and had a great time. We opted for all of the appetizers and small plates, which were delicious. The craft cocktails were very good and the employees who preferred beer were happy with the selection. Extra bonus, we sat outside and the weather was perfect. We would go back there for dinner next time we visit the wharf. This place is not a tourist rip off.
Wow, perfect in every way! Ciopinno was truly amazing. Our server Eli was relatable and professional, the corn crab chowder was hands down excellent, and the prices were pretty fair. Could not be any better in any way. Oh and the outdoor seating was great with heaters.
We were visiting from Canada and picked the top ranked restaurant with some filters (not too pricey, bar type, with authentic food). We had the most amazing Crab and some good beer. One of the managers talked to us and the service was perfect. She even recommended some other places to visit in California.
Would definitely recommend and go back :)
My only small niggle with this restaurant is actually the same niggle I have with many local restaurants. Bad selection or no vegetarian food. Salad isn't really what you want to be eating if you are having drinks with friends, believe me I've done it often enough. And salad is about it for vegetarians here.
Chowder was metallic tasting and highly over salted. The crab and corn chowder was good, but spicy. The garlic fries were tossed and garnished with an over abundance of chopped raw garlic, even the server commented to the amount of garlic. The cheesy polenta gave an extra star for the food. Not a fan at all of the food 👎🏻
This restaurant was down by the water on beach st. In The Cannery area. An awesome guitarist played outside across the restaurant. We ate outdoors & they had heaters for those cool SF evenings. The food was good & the service was wonderful. The steak & potatoes were nice, especially the Parmesan crusted white potatoes! Definitely go!
We were at blue mermaid for a business dinner with a large group. They were so great to us, from accommodating such a large group to everyone's food coming out at the same time and each meal was just as delicious as the next. Fabulous experience, would both recommend and go back again.
We stayed at the beautiful Argonaut Hotel for my wife's birthday. We decided to try out the Blue Mermaid for her birthday dinner. The hostess greeted us with a happy birthday but our waiter could not have made our night LESS SPECIAL. No bread when everyone else got some. No refills on water. Not even a simple scoop of ice cream with a candle on it. He didn't even say Happy Birthday to my wife through the entire meal. Only after we left and were on the street did he come running out to say "Happy Birthday by the Way!" As for food, the garlic roasted crab was very good though a bit pricey (55.00). The pan seared salmon was gelatinous and undercooked. What was suppose to be crispy skin, was a soggy mess. If you're staying at the Argonaut, don't bother with this place.
This is a combination of having a few meals there during our stay. Breakfast could not have been more delicious with friendly, attentive and knowledgeable wait staff. Christmas Eve was horrendous. From overcooked food to a snappy, forgetful, frazzled waitress. We could have picked any restaurant for our Christmas dinner and booked here well in advance. I understand wait staff being annoyed having to work holidays but this was beyond unacceptable. The dining room manager tried to be helpful but even what she promised was not delivered. This restaurant is just a hotel amenity not a real restaurant. Walk across, up or down the street for many othet amazing dining options on SF.
My friend and I were wandering around Fisherman's Wharf and needed foods. We didn't want to make a big deal about it and wait in line. Blue Mermaid was pretty empty on a Saturday early evening, which made us a little nervous. But the food was awesome. We shared the shrimp cocktail -- quite fresh. She eats gluten-free and pregnant (watching fish intake) so her food options were kind of limited. She ended up ordering a burger without the bun. I had the linguine and clams. The drinks and food were good. The waitress did forget about us for a second so it took us a little longer to get our order in.
The food was absolutely delicious but our server was at best, sub-par. She seemed short with us, was not helpful, did not have any suggestions, was unfriendly and at the end the meal she actually recommended another place down the street to get Irish coffee. She was more excited about the other place with $5 drinks than she was about anything on her own menu. If they got some halfway decent servers, I would give this place 5 stars.
