Absolutely the best! Food was delicious and their cocktails so good you had to have two! Service was quick and efficient. Prices were reasonable
I dined with a friend who brought her 6mo son. The floor staff was very understanding of the situation.
Lovely food and staff!
The Herb-Brined Chicken was so tasty. Loved the faro risotto.
Very expensive for average quality. Do not order the smoothies. $7.00 for a small /short glass with maybe 1.5 cups of smoothie. Not worth $7.00
Cioppino excellent. Crab dip not very flavorable, but decent. Great location, ambiance.
Service was friendly and efficient. Our server came back several times to see how we were doing. We had their burgers which were delicious. Also good were the crab and corn chowder and the calamari. We would return.
Mediocre meal...not bad, but not great either.
Restaurant week in SF so we decided to go to Blue Mermaid, a place we always passed by but never went inside. The restaurant week menu and the location on the wharf was impressive however the burger I was given came out essentially raw. Obviously frozen prior to cooking because the outside was charred but the inside completely raw. The only other negative was that a side of dressing we asked for didn’t come out until we asked a second waitress if they could get it for us. I imagine the burger had been served many times that day and they were cooking them in bulk. Obviously a big negative but the restaurant and bar ambiance were both impressive.
Food was fabulous. Calamari was fresh and crispy. Portions were good. We’ll be back.
I have walked by Blue Mermaid more times than I can remember. As they were participating in restaurant week, I decided to check out their menu and an offering, Roast pork loin with mole sauce, caught my eye. My first impression was that the noise level was a bit high, especially since it wasn't crowded. (The only other complaint I have is that they do not offer a non-alcoholic beer.) By the end of my meal, this is the only real criticism I had with my dinner; other than that, the meal was perfect. I usually dine as a single, which occasionally leads to not so great service or feel that I am being rushed, but my server, Mihai, was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I started with crab and corn chowder and it was incredible. The pork was moist and tasty, the mole sauce great and the accompaniments very good. I'm not usually a kale fan, but it was excellent. Over all, I'm glad I chose the Blue Mermaid.
The bar area was dirty. I sat at the bar and overall not a great experience.
Clam chowder was excellent. Linguine with clams and hamburger were just OK. Didn’t care for the crab and corn chowder. Soups came out after our entree and husband’s salad order wasn’t submitted. Waitress was very pleasant, but seemed a little nervous and disorganized.
During my weekend getaway to SanFrancisco we ate breakfast at the Blue Mermaid and returned for dinner. The staff was friendly, professional and provided excellent pointers regarding locale tourist attractions. Everything was Fabulous!
Food was fine. Not great, not terrible. Service was good. It’s a cute restaurant, a bit cold. Great location!
Liked this place so much we went back a second time. First evening sat outside near the patio heaters and second time inside. Restaurant is inside the old Del Monte cannery and is cosy with a good ambience. Staff are attentive and the food good. The crab dip to start is a delight and the choice of chowders are excellent. Garlic on the fish and chips a little overpowering but didn’t deter from the overall enjoyment.
We decided to go out for breakfast after crossing the finish line of the Golden Gate Half Marathon. I was able to make a reservation for 3 within 20 minutes. Upon our arrival we experienced a wonderful welcome, and excellence service throughout. The food came out promptly, and was delicious! We’ll definitely return!
The food was very good. We stayed at the hotel and the service and location was top notch. The restaurant service was mediocre, not bad but not overly friendly or exceptional. Would have expected the service of the restaurant to match the level of the hotel. We were not greeted upon entering and had to wait for about 5 minutes to be acknowledged - at 7am, they were not busy, and multiple people who worked there walked by without speaking. Even the server spoke minimally.
With so many choices in SF, I was a disappointed by the review for this restaurant being more than what it really is. Asking for water 4 times, to only have it brought 20 minutes later was a bit off. The regular clam chowder was fine. The signature corn and Dungeness crab chowder had a nice Smokey flavor to it, but was filled with corn and lacking crab. And I don’t recommend the crab cakes as they were mainly filler. I had more crab on my crab Benedict the next morning at a breakfast restaurant.
Disappointing- just meh!
We requested ( when we got there, we were told no service is available outdoors for at least an hour later😳. Breakfast potatoes were stale & not fresh.
Food was delicious but service was a tad slow the night we visited. May not be a reflection of the typical night. Give it a try none the less.
We had the crab corn chowder, crab dip and cioppino, and we loved every bit!
We had a lovely dinner at Blue Mermaid. Good food and drinks with excellent and fast service.
Service was horrible. The food was absolutely not worth it.
We were visiting the nearby Maritime Museum and stopped here for lunch. The visitor's center for the museum is in the same building and the pier with the historic ships is across the street.
We ate outside which was nice on a not-too-warm afternoon
All of our dishes were tasty: Fish and Chips, Chicken Club Sandwich, Shrimp Roll, and Fish Tacos.
The crab-corn soup was particularly good.
We would definitely eat here again.
Stopped for breakfast one morning. Very much enjoyed the Dungeness crab eggs Benedict.
Food was great, service was good! Waiter could’ve knew more about the desserts, didn’t really sell the products!!
We stayed at the Argonaut Hotel in a beautiful suite for my husband's birthday. We decided to eat at the Blue Mermaid, and made reservations. We were not impressed. The place was busy, and the ambience was nice. Our server and the tough steak ruined our experience. Our server didn't come to our table after being seated for about 25-30 minutes, then she seemed annoyed that we were there. My husband ordered a steak med/rare, but it was medium/well and tough. We didn't complain, but our server was cold and not attentive at all. She never refilled drinks unless we flagged her down, then she wasn't nice or apologetic for ignoring us. This was a once in a lifetime trip that we took from Colorado, and we don't have the opportunity to come back. I can't recommend this place. My husband left pretty annoyed and she got a very small tip because she was flat out lousy.
20 minutes to get a waitress to take a drink order. Food wasn't all that great, just ok.
Very bad service
The atmosphere was charming, our waiter was very interactive, efficient and kind, and the food was amazing!!! I had been dying to try ciopinno since arriving in San Franscisco and Blue Mermaid did not disappoint!
Very mediocre from the service to the food. Everyone seemed rather awkward and unprofessional. Not terrible, just not good.
The food was very good and the service great. I loved the atmosphere and the prices were comparable with other restaurants in the area.
Bad service - we had to ask the waiter 2-3 times for everything we needed. He messed up 2 of our plates, and the food wasn’t good!
Love Blue Mermaid. Service is always spot on. Food delicious. Everyone very attentive. Crab Dip is a must. Corn and crab chowder full of crab. Fish and chips perfect. Great selection of drinks.
The service we had at this place was exceptional. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to par as expected. The asparagus appetizer was cold and the asparagus tasted limp. The crab boil was great but they forgot to give corn on the cob in it. The drinks are quite overpriced.
Good good service not so good the food was good but the service was slow and not always friendly which is a shame because it’s a nice hotel .
Although there were not many people in the place, the service and food was not great at all and it was pretty pricey.
Great food! I love the corn and clam chowder. The clam chowder and fish and chips are also good.
