We had a large group and were excited because the restaurant was recommended by friends who ate there and had a great experience a few nights previous. Our experience was pretty terrible. The drinks took forever to get to the table. All of the food came out unstructured. We didn't even get through half the salad and the entree was on the table. Appetizers were ordered and only one came out, the rest came with the entrees. The waitress was nowhere to be found most of the time. She also made a mistake and said that she would take one of the items off the bill. I told her that was not what I was looking for but thanked her. Then she did not take it off. I didn't even eat the item which she didn't even notice. Very cool looking place but the service made it a terrible experience and the food was just ok. If it would have been spaced out more it may have been better.
Quite the cocktail program. Loved the shrimp and grits. Worthy of a downtown Phoenix.
The girls and I enjoyed this place before our concert and our wait staff was very friendly and prompt.
Melissa was a great waitperson-good suggestions and good service.
spouse and I found the restaurant to be too 'hoity-toity' for our taste; we weren't really the people the restaurant was designed for; more for the younger crowd working in the area, which is OK. We were there on a Saturday night on a weekend with very few people in the restaurant. The food was good but the 'experience' was less than expected. We felt odd, out of place; unlike the next door Breakfast Club where the Bloody Marys ($8) were huge and significantly better than the $12 standard drinks at Blue Hound. There was no warm and fuzzy at your restaurant, which we guess is very 'downtown'.
Food and cocktails were moderately good. Service was fine. Not a bad restaurant but not a great one either. There is not a lot of competition in the downtown area so they are busy. Try Arrogant Butcher next door
This is a really great restaurant that’s near event centers in Phoenix
Fresh, unique menu options. The fresh pasta dish was amazing! I asked for a spoon so that I could get the last bit of sauce from my bowl :)
The food was delicious and the hostess and servers went out of their way to give me a cute table and a great experience.
I took my girlfriend here a few nights ago and thought the atmosphere is very upscale and metro feeling when you come in. It is relaxing with its couches and cozy fire places upon entering, and matching decor are extremely charming. The food, was a little lacking in variety for a dinner menu, but decent. I had a pork shank, that like others have stated, about falls off the bone, and the pork was awesome in itself, but honestly I would have rather been able to have something besides beans to have the shank in- maybe some mashed potatoes? Eh, thats just me... One thing I wasnt aware of before placing our order for dinner, was that they still serve burgers, which are not shown on the immediate dinner menu, but rather a menu sitting at the edge of the table. We only found out about the burger because someone else ordered one and we saw it get brought out... I think for a good craft beer or cocktail this place would be perfect if you are downtown. Ill have to give it another try some day and go for a burger and drink. The shrimp and grits were spicey and flavorful, but would be nice to have some options for pairing it with something besides grits. All and all, I would go back again when I am in the downtown area, but would not make a special trip or call this one of my favorites.
My husband took me to stay at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar for a surprise birthday staycation and we did our dinner here at Blue Hound. Everything was amazing! Service, food, cocktails, atmosphere, price... it was all perfect. Our server Melissa was super helpful making suggestions with food & drinks, thank you!! HIGHLY recommend the cornbread madeleine's with honey butter, YUM. He got the flat iron steak and it was one of the best steaks we've ever had. I got the blackened salmon and it was fresh, cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. Later that night we returned for drinks at the beautiful bar. The bartenders are liquid wizards; mixing & shaking concoctions that are crazy good. Mesmerizing just watching them!! We also returned the next morning for their first-ever breakfast service and again, blown away!! The french toast is more like bread pudding... to die for! The straus yogurt is unlike any yogurt I've had. Rich, creamy perfection... insanely good. We cannot wait to return for another amazing meal, soon!! Come here, you won't be disappointed!!
Just a really great place for a nice evening out downtown. The shrimp and grits was fantastic and the service even better Melissa was great thanks for the experience
A group of friends and I were going to an event at the Comerica theater and wanted to have dinner before the show. The Blue Hound was close, so we gave it a go. We ordered several small plates and shared them, had some wine and beer and lively conversation, and walked to the theater in time for the show. It was perfect. There is a good variety of small plates to suit just about anyone, large enough for sharing. They have an excellent selection of wines and craft beers as well as interesting cocktails. Our server was prompt, pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable. All in all, a great choice for the evening.
Great service and excellent food! Our server was wonderful and very attentive and gave great suggestions. The food was delicious and creative. I would highly recommend dining there for any occasion.
Food was awesome and our server, Natalie was the bomb! Super fun downtown Phoenix hot spot!
Limited menu but the food was very tasty. Fresh local ingredients.
We were disappointed that original chef had left. Interim chef is doing a good job
I had been here about a year ago, and the meal was amazing. That was not the case this time. Our waitress was inattentive and pulled in too many directions. We ordered the charcuterie board - and she wasn't sure what the meat or cheese was that was on there. For a $22 appetizer, I expect the waitstaff to know what is being served. The entrees were good, but a bit oily. The restaurant was truly lacking attention to detail.
This was the first time using OpenTable...and the first time at BlueHound. Both “firsts” were great! We arrived.. and were promptly seated at out table. The service was spot on... cocktails were good, the food was delicious. We, 4 of us, agreed we would need to come back several times to try the different items on the menu. A vibrant atmosphere, loved the decor.... felt like we were in an upscale restaurant in Chicago or New York. A great experience!!!
We were in town for a concert and required an early dinner so the restaurant wasn’t too busy yet, so not too noisy;
although I expect the noise level would be significantly louder when they’re crowded. I started with the roast cauliflower, if you’re a cauliflower fan I’d recommend it, if you’re not a fan this dish might change your mind. I’d definitely have it again. We both had fish, trout & salmon both well presented and tasty. The trout was on the verge of being over powered by the capers but I still enjoyed it. The date cake was yummy and well worth a try, sharing was a great idea. We tried 2 different cocktails “war of the roses” and “when men wore hats”, so scrummy we’re looking for the online recipes. Service was also very good, just the right amount of attention. When we’re back in Phoenix, we’ll return.
Come here for the amazing drink menu. The crafted cocktails are a cut above. The food menu wasn’t just adaquately good.
Cocktails were perfect and so creative. LOVE the clear ice.
Food was amazing, we had the chicken bites appetizer and for entrees the pork shank and the shrimp & grits. Both were so so good and I don't even like grits. We're going back and will try the happy hour in the bar next time. Great ambiance. The staff was really friendly and knowledgeable with our menu questions.
We went there before a concert. The food portion was small. The pasta was tasty but the blackened Salmon was nothing special. It was not good value for money.
Pleasantly surprised when I realized this restaurant was attached to the hotel I was staying in after making reservations. (Hotel Palomar). Great food and drinks. Outstanding service. A little loud for a business dinner but overall awesome choice!
Amazing service. I had the salmon and it was one of the best salmon I have ever had. The presentation was superb. They have a wide variety of alcohol which I loved .
Clayton is a fabulous server!! Food was delicious. Had the big salad with pumpkin seeds and a burger! Excellent!
Food was very good overall. I wouldn't recommend the meat and cheese board for the price, however. The meat to cheese ratio was 1:9, which was kinda disappointing. That equaled two small slices of bresaola on the entire board otherwise comprised of bread, nuts, and cheese. That was really my only gripe.
Otherwise, the service was outstanding. Our waitress had great recommendations for cocktails and was very friendly. Entrees were all delicious. I'm sure I'll be back.
Started with the grilled shishito peppers dipped in spicy sriracha aioli that exited our taste buds and paired nicely with the rum orientated drinks.
We had the limited time special the new chef was trying out for the evening: an aged pork chop with terroir savors. It was extraordinay and brought me back to childhood cuisine back in France.
The simple compote desert finished the meal with a rich and creamy sweet jar of goodness.
Very pleasant experience, worth the price and definetly will recommend to friends.
We dined here prior to a concert and had a great time. The drink selection (including bourbon/whiskey) was as extensive as I've seen (although the tequila selection could be expanded a bit). The server was great and very helpful with the menu. The shishito peppers and shrimp appetizer was killer good. The shrimp and grits as well as the pork main dish was splendid. Whether you stop here for a drink or a drink/dinner, you will be satisfied!
Our experience at Blue Hound was decent. I took my family there for dinner, the meal selection was small but the food was good the drinks were different and also good. What mattered the most was my family enjoyed the moment.
Blue hound kitchen was very good! Loved everything about it as we celebrated a birthday. Our server, I think her name was Melissa, treated us perfectly.
I specifically got a hotel room at Palomar because it had the blue hound attached to it. I wanted to impress my boyfriend with a nice dinner for his birthday and blue hound is rated number one in downtown Phoenix. Unfortunately, our meals weren’t that great. He ordered the prime medium rare and I ordered the filet medium. Both came out medium well with a speck of medium in the middle. I guess they were cooked too long since it took 30 minutes to receive them, and it seem like a pretty slow night. I also mentioned when I made the reservations that it was my boyfriend’s birthday and they didn’t offer anything. I just thought what was the point of having the celebration option when making the reservation if they don’t offer anything. Maybe I’m wrong for not speaking up but I didn’t want to bother the server by asking if they do free dessert for birthdays.
Apps were acceptable and the cocktails were exceptional (Rye Old Fashioned). Easy access for downtown sporting events.
This resturant was worth the walk in the 106 temperature, which we were not use to!!! The customer service from the host to the server to the food, we couldn't ask for a better night. I started off with the Corn Beard, to the Shiahito Peppers and for my entree was the blackebed Salmon which was perfect.
We dined at the Blue Hound prior to our attending the Jackson Browne concert. The atmosphere was cozy and pleasant. Our server was great and did a good job of taking care of us and offering suggestions. The food was good and the cocktail menu was amazing. I would certainly recommend the Blue Hound to anyone.
The only word that fits is NOISY. Even though we had a table off to the side we had to literally shout at each other. Not pleasent.
Amazing food in a great ambiance. Great cocktails.
Loved the food, drinks and service we’ll be back again.
Great meal, cocktails and service. Relaxed atmosphere with attentive but not hovering waitstaff. The pork shank was fantastic in flavor and presentation.
Very good food and service.Excellent service and food.
