Blue Hound Kitchen & Cocktails Ratings and Reviews
If your looking for a hidden gem downtown, this is your place. Unique twist on good ol American classic foods. Chef Sean has the cuisine dialed in. Staff and service is 1st class every time. Highly recommend you stop on in for some great eats and classic drinks.
We made the mistake of reserving at a time that turned out to be before a sporting event at the nearby stadium. The noise level was deafening and our server was "slammed." We couldn't hear each other at the table, we had trouble hearing our server, and we waited at least 15 minutes for our pre-dinner drinks. This might be a good place for those who like their restaurants hyper-vibrant, but I won't be back, sorry.
Food was great, imaginative and truly a delectable experience. Ambiance was lovely. Nice hip environment, elegantly appointed. The music was a bit loud inside so we sat outside. We didn't realize it was part of the Hotel Palomar until we got there. Great food not like most other hotel restaurants. Our waiter Chris W. sat down with us and explained the menu and their eclectic drink menu. He recommended the short rib sliders and the deviled egg appetizers. I have to say they were some of the best food I have had in a long time. We had a couple of salads for the table and split a couple of their flat iron steaks. They were cooked perfectly. Food was excellent, drinks were excellent and the service was even better. Would definitely recommend Blue Hound Kitchen
The food was great; I highly recommend the catfish and crawdad etouffee and the peaches and cream dessert. However, the service was slow (everyone was in the area for Garth Brooks), our server forgot to separate our checks despite being asked before ordering, and he forgot to bring us a pen with our check.
Great place to eat before Symphony or other events in downtown Phoenix not easy to find a good place here on the weekend! Service is spot on. Good amt of time between courses boudin balls were good flatbread ok but the salads are excellent! Artic car wonderful pork Osso bucco delicious chicken dish and swordfish a little dry. S'mores was the dessert to order but the peach special was just ok I always have to mention that I am a slow eater and feel uncomfortable when they clear the table and I am the only one eating!! Blue Hound has well trained staff they waited till I was done and THEN cleaned the table.we will be returning!
my friend and i took the light rail from central phoenix and the restaurant is about one block from the stop we needed. the server was wonderful. i like the ambiance. i tend to enjoy restaurants attached to this hotel group. symphony hall was about 3 blocks from the restaurant with an easy walk back to the light rail. nice evening.
We were a group of 6 with all non drinkers of alcohol. Everyone had a great experience and we were all pleasantly surprised with the food and service. We noticed the menu was pretty simple, but it was very tasty. There were some requests our group had that our server readily made happen. All in all a great evening.
My family had a light dinner at the Blue Hound before heading off to a Diamondbacks game. The team was very helpful in providing us with a table that was suitable for my mom, who is in a wheelchair.
We enjoyed a variety of the appetizers on the menu but (vegetarian) reader beware. When we asked about the Boudin balls, we discovered that it was essentially a meat ball . Yet, the menu said nothing about it containing meat - the reader is supposed to know what a Boudin ball is.
Almost everything we ordered had some kind of cheese or meat, which we requested to be removed.
And one of the items we ordered never arrived....excuse being that the restaurant had become very busy since we arrived....isn't that what happens at restaurants around 5:30pm?
Overall, we thought the food was good and the service was good but not outstanding.
Shared appetizers amongst our party of 4. The deviled eggs were the best any at the table had ever had. However, the entree selection is a bit limited and our server took zero interest in our table, so we decided that drinks and apps at Blue Hound were plenty and we went elsewhere to finish dinner.
Vibrant atmosphere, hard surface noise plentiful. Friendly staff. Good mixologist. Food was ok. The elote' was 2 pieces of corn on the cob. I sheared off the corn to eat it. It might be best for the server, Christopher to mention how it is prepared. The shrimp with sausage was ok, basic spice served over rice. Was expecting over grits, though they brought a side dish instead. The filet was cooked to order. Just nothing to get real excited about...just ok. Though for the price may try something else next time.
We enjoyed two of the starters including the melon, cucumber radish salad and the roasted corn. We each had a main course. I had the chicken and my wife selected the trout. We could have easily split one of these as the portions were generous. Everything was out of the park delicious and not salty as the chef actually used seasonings to enhance the flavor. The trout came with plenty of fresh parsley, fresh green beans and the chicken with some incredible roasted carrots, and nicely seasoned farro.
Wait staff was attentive, friendly and additive to the entire dining experience. Overall a wonderful evening.
My friend and I were first time diners at Blue Hound. Our server was extremely knowledgable and funny. We split several dishes, with recommendations for our server for drinks. The fried green tomatoes were by far my favorite. We also got the elote, peppers, seared ahi, and the hommade pasta. Everything tasted amazing, unique twists on familiar recipes. Although it was quiet when we first arrived, as the restaurant filled up for dinner time, my friend and I ended up having to shout to hear each other. Other than that, this restaurant is a gem, and I can't wait to go back. I'll just avoid the busy dinner hour.
We discovered the Blue Hound when looking for a nice meal before going to a Suns game. We have returned often, and brought friends to join us. You always seem to have just the right things on the menu to please us. The food , service, and ambiance has always been perfect!
My husband and I were entertaining out of town guests and decided to go to the blue hound at the last minute. We were pleasantly surprised by the vibrant bar scene, excellent specialty drinks, delicious food, and excellent service! We will definitely be back to this great find.
First time trying Blue hound, we were downtown for the Circus and stopped in for dinner. The place is really cool. The food was delicious and our server (forgot his name) was very attentive and friendly. We will go back the next time we find ourselves downtown.
We enjoyed our food immensely. The roasted beet and date salad was fantastic, and the trout was tasty as well. Neither of us drink much, so when we didn't understand many of the cocktails, our waiter, Ryan, was as patient as could be going through the list with us. We chose 2 unfamiliar drinks (drink roulette we called it) and they were both good. The one drawback for us was the noise. It wasn't all that crowded, but boy-howdy it was noisy. So - even with the really good food and the really good service, the fact that it was hard to talk knocks my review down substantially. The last thing I'd like to say is when the kitchen made a faux pas with our leftovers, the manager was truly gracious and offered MORE than adequate compensation (which we didn't take - but we did split a nice dessert - on the house). So - Blue Hound, you have much going for you! if it were quieter, we'd return.
