This was my first time back to Blue Hound in about two years. Everything about our visit (a business dinner with a job candidate) was terrific, particularly the service--flawless. I was a tad disappointed with a couple of dishes, though. First, I was really sad to see that the biscuits with bacon jam were not on the starters menu any more. *sob* Second, we ordered the fried green tomatoes because our job candidate had never eaten them before. I was hesitant, if only because I grew up in the South and am pretty picky about that dish. These were just ok, and honestly, for $16, they were not up to snuff. The tomato slices were tiny--about the size of a silver dollar--and would have been pretty forgettable if not for the remoulade accompanying them.
The shishito peppers, however, were outstanding and at $9, a fair price. We also had the bone marrow starter (also $16), which is utterly delicious but not really the right size for three people to share. Two people, sure, and I'll order them again.
For our mains, we had two orders of the trout and the flat-iron steak. All were cooked perfectly and plated very nicely. The cherries that accompanied my steak really made the dish (one of my dinner partners kept asking me for another).
We finished by sharing a slice of the pineapple upside down cake. I loved it. Moist, not too sweet, light rather than dense. It was the perfect finish to the meal.
The total for our dinner, not including alcohol or tip, was $145. That's steep for three people, but if you're looking for a place to go for a special occasion, Blue Hound Kitchen should be an option.
We had a reservation for 6 for a special occasion and half our party didn't arrive but the server was extremely understanding, professional, and kind. I've been to blue hound many times and plan to visit many more. The food and craft cocktails are always outstanding!! It's a beautiful upscale little restaurant.
Enjoyed dinner before a game at Talking Stick Arena. Nice place, across the street from Talking Stick. Would definitely go back,
This place was amazing. The service was excellent along with the food. I love the cocktail menu. You can pick a drink by the “genre” allowing the bartender to provide you with a craft cocktail that may surprise you. Our table loved all of our drinks. I can’t recommend this place enough!
Great food and hand crafted cocktails! Fun place for happy hour or dinner.
Have never been to the Blue Hound before and really liked it. Hope to go back
Conveniently located in nice huge space. Menu selections have very good combinations of ingredients. Could use some refinements such as water without ice and some bread or starch to start.
Annie was our server and was fantastic. She spent additional time to get my dad's cocktail just they way he likes it! All of the food came out perfectly and was very good. Annie was always there at the right time. Thanks for a fun lunch with my husband, parents, and uncle!
Delicious and relaxing
We are foodies who have lived inphx for 20 yrs..u have good but not great food
A great spot! The bar is fantastic with creative cocktails and top notch bartenders. The special bar menu is delicious--try the mac & cheese! Dinner was superb as well, a creative yet approachable menu in a cozy and fun dining room with outdoor patio seating as well. We will certainly return next time we are in Phoenix!
I think someone forgot to put salt on the fried green tomatoes, but everything else was SPECTACULARLY good. From the entrees to the cocktails to the service, I would definitely recommend this place and will be back.
Ladies night and it was fabulous
The restaurant is beautiful, like really beautiful, and service was ok.
We were very disappointed by the food. We ordered 4 small plates to share; everything was ok but, but too standard.
The wine list is very short
Loved the warm atmosphere and the quiet ambiance that allowed ease of conversation. One of the best old fashion cocktails that I've had and loved!! the shrimp and grits. Good food and good ambiance. Will recommend to others.
Overall very good. It is pretty noisy, but we got a lovely table in the corner by the patio that was quieter. Great food and excellent service. Two appetizers were enough for dinner for us. Will go again.
We had a variety of appetizers and salads, and shared. We would really recommend the cauliflower and beat salad. It was a great night out!
A bit loud for me, but I’m older and have a hard time hearing my companion. Fun atmosphere for someone who wouldn’t have this issue. Or...great place to take that person you don’t want to listen to anyway :)
Turkey burger was wonderful! Really nice view by the window
Everything we tasted was delicious, good portion sizes, and our server, Kevin, was excellent! Would definitely recommend, but be prepared to drop a ton of cash
Food and service were terrific! However, I made reservations for dinner and we were seated in the bar area. It was extremely loud and was difficult to have a conversation.
Very good food and vibe. Went here before going to a show downtown. Would recommend it and will return.
Food and service is excellent. Noise is a problem. Hard to hear conversation even with a small table, party of 4. Service was a tad slower than usual, but the restaurant was full.
Great Service. Great food. Excellent spirit selection. We will definitely be back.
While the menu sounds fantastic, the execution is barely average. Seasoning was off and most things were over cooked. All of this doesn't even take into account the $80 per person valentine set menu. The flavors would have been average at half that price. Had hopes this might become our go to place. But I don't think we will return and won't be recommending it to anyone.
Shrimp and Grits was fantastic!
Really enjoyed the shrimp and grits!! Love the ambiance and decor. Will definitely return when I visit Phoenix again.
Except for the noise level, everything was great!
food was great but superbowl on at the bar had one super screeching woman ruining the atmosphere for everyone else
The corn grit fries were worth the whole trip. The rest of the meal was both unique and delicious. Great ambience.
The only slight negatives was there was no hostess to seat us for several minutes, and the waitress lacked warmth and the ability to be normal and friendly.
Third visit. Nice before symphony. Like the valet parking
Like most restaurants at Kimpton properties, this place was very very good
We enjoyed a nice dinner date at Blue Hound Kitchen as prelude to a visit to the Phoenix Symphony. My cocktail was impeccably balanced and the Brussel sprout appetizer was a delicious fusion of flavors. Catfish entrée and moreover the blackened salmon were both very well executed. Would go back again.
Although they accommodated my food sensitivities, there was a lack of assistance in making any recommendations from the chef. I’m not sure if the server even asked. I had asked for recommendations in the comment area of open table but had to bring it up to the server and then had to ask again before ordering if he had checked with the chef.
Food was great. Drinks were expensive
Good food great vibe nice time
My wife had the roasted chicken entree and I can confidently say it was the best chicken dish I have had in Phoenix to date.
I had the ragu dish and it was good but not great. Service was also very good and timely.
Will be coming back
Great place for lunch or dinner before the theater. Limited seating so get a reservation. Great tables by the window and booth in the bat area.
Excellent food in a chill atmosphere
