Blue Heron Steakhouse
Best cocktails!! My favorite is the margarita but you can’t go wrong with any of them!
Very crowded and loud but the food and service were excellent
Have been several times to celebrate our anniversary and this time was for our 31st anniversary. The staff made us feel so welcome and we were the only ones there but it was a Wednesday. Would recommend Blue Heron to others. Yes, it may be a little expensive but so totally worth it. Great atmosphere!
The atmosphere and staff were wonderful! We arrived 15 minutes before our reservations and they accommodated us without any issues. My wife and I were there for an early dinner and ordered oysters on the half shell for an appetizer and the porterhouse for 2 as an entree. All but 2 of the daily oysters were fantastic. The porterhouse came out in a vat of butter, which was not mentioned in the menu. I would have not ordered this if it had. I ordered the steak medium rare which it came out RARE. I'm not sure how the "chef" didn't catch this since they cut up the steak before serving it to the guests (I would not have ordered this if I knew they cut it ahead of time either). I really hate doing this, but I asked them to cook it to medium rare as it was hard to chew. They brought it back out and there were still some pieces that were rare. I tried to eat it anyways, but couldn't get through it and I am a stickler for wasting food. The waiter mentioned there were some new people in the back and already had some "misses". We were there @ 5:45 on a Saturday. They open at 5 so a few misses in a span of 45 minutes is not good. Other steak dishes on surrounding tables looked delicious though. I would not come back, but would not deter others from going.
Great atmosphere, service is always excellent, one of the best steaks around. Best crab cake you can find in Lexington.
We were in Lexington for the Paul McCartney concert and wanted a restaurant within walking distance to Rupp Arena. We were seated promptly at our reservation time and our waitress asked us if were going the concert. (Always nice when the restaurants staff takes your events into consideration.) The restaurant filled quickly and we were glad to have made a reservation. We were very happy with our dozen of Washington oysters starter. They were yummy with our craft cocktails. We split a wonderful spinach salad and the pork chop entree. Both dishes were both delicious and plated beautifully. Our server was great bringing us plenty of fresh from the oven bread. Too full for dessert, we then easily walked to the concert venue.
We LOVED it!!! The sever was amazing and the food was perfect. We got the specials.
My Fiancé and I chose The Blue Heron for our anniversary dinner. We made reservations ahead of time, although they aren’t necessary. We went during the week and they were not staffed appropriately. Only one server taking care of more than 5 tables and working as the host as well. We were sat at a dirty table because staffing was not adequate. We ordered the baked Brie appetizer (highly recommend) and the porterhouse for 2. I read other reviews and chose the steak fries as my side and would absolutely NOT recommend these to anyone-they we’re very bland. The spinach and salad were wonderful. The Porterhouse was perfect and more food than the 2 of us could eat. Our server was awesome for the amount of work he was having to do alone. There was no manager seen during our visit-very odd for a restaurant. Consider visiting here on a weekend when hopefully they are staffed better and dress is nice casual. There were people wearing baseball hats so don’t let that stop you from trying this place out.
So good going back tonight!
Our first time there, service from LT was great. We had prime rib. Fish and steak, all was prepared and tasted great. Loved the deserts. Highly suggest this restaurant.
For all occasions, love this restaurant!
Food was fantastic with excellent presentation. My boyfriend and I really had a great time.
Steak quality not as good as previously. Had porterhouse for 2 and contained fat and grisel. Taste not quite as good either. Little disappointed as we were celebrating an anniversary.
We are at the Blue Heron for the first time this weekend as it comes highly recommended. The restaurant is very nice and we chose to eat outside on the patio.
The Brie appetizer was great and not too costly. The drinks were a good mix of flavor and strength.
For the main course I ordered the Cowboy Ribeye as I am a huge ribeye fan. It is a bone-in ribeye which is generally my favorite. The steak was cooked perfectly but it did not look like a ribeye. It had no outer ring and was extremely lean and tough. I was convinced it was a NY strip but tasted like a sirloin. The creamed spinach was just ok but the steak fries were phenomenal. My wife ordered the filet and it was cooked perfectly and her green beans were very flavorful.
Our server, LT, was very accommodating and assured me it was a ribeye through my skepticism. He offered to change it for a prime rib which was ok with me. The unfortunate part was he came back and said they were almost out. I settled for the fried chicken instead which took a while to get and I was not really hungry at that point. LT did give my wife another glass of wine on the house so that was well received.
We will more than likely be back because the service and ambiance was nice. Hopefully the next run at a steak will be different as it is quite pricey at $40+ for the ribeye.
Amazing food. Great location. Awesome restaurant will be back
We had a wonderful experience, my fiance said his steak was perfect! The carpaccio was very tasty, the bread for the brie was perfect, the butter lettuce salad was simple but well done. Our dining partners quite enjoyed their lamb, and I also enjoyed my rock shrimp pasta, which was pleasantly surprising with peppery spiciness
Service and food was amazing as always Tom did a great job serving us, as he had a large group and other tables. He was very polite and professional. Looking forward to dining there again very soon
I was in a group of five for dinner. Everyone but me loved their food. Two of my dining companions had the fish special which was halibut. They said it was outstanding. Two others had the strip steak and loved it. I ordered one of the priciest items on the menu, beef tenderloin. The meat was cooked properly and very tender. However, it tasted as though it had not been seasoned. I added salt & pepper a couple of times, which I rarely ever do. I also ordered a specialty drink off of their menu which they could not make due to lack of proper ingredients. Several other local restaurants prepare beef tenderloin much more to my liking.
Outstanding food and service and a beautiful place. Loved it
Excellent handmade cocktails served from the bar. Tom was a very good waiter. Everything all afternoon was simply top shelf.
Consistently one of the best restaurants in Lexington!
Our first visit (hopefully not last) to Blue Heron was just what we had hoped for to celebrate our anniversary. I tried the pasta special (shrimp & lump crab) which was outstanding and hubs had the prime rib. He claims it was one of the best he has had. Our server was very helpful and attentive on this Derby Eve. Nice atmosphere though a bit dark to my liking.
Great meal, great ambiance, great service. Desert menu needs some work. That aside, next time I’m in Lexington, I’ll be back.
This is an amazing place. My wife and I both loved it. The food was excellent. We had the 8oz steak, and it's one of the best steaks I have eaten in a long time. We made a reservation, when we arrived the hostess at the front was not too pleasant. Besides that the experience was great.
Pasta special was over cooked. The dish included lump crab and rock shrimp, both were almost burnt tasting. The prime rib was chewy and flavorless.
The drinks were excellent as well as the service.
My girlfriend and I were in Lexington for her birthday celebration and I found The Blue Heron to try for dinner. I am so happy we selected that place!! Food was excellent and my lady couldn’t have been happier with it all. We will definitely travel back to enjoy this place again!
My family and I were there for my birthday . The service was very good as always . My wife and son had both ordered the New York Strip . The steaks were under cooked and were sent back but my wife was not able to eat hers even after it had been returned . Unfortunate but this is the first bad experience that we have encountered at the restaurant . We will be back sometime and hope that all goes well .
Cozy and comfortable space. Food and drink very good! A bit over priced.
GREAT PUB AMBIENCE!!!
GREAT WINE LIST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Second visit for us, very pleasant experience. Expert cocktails, great meals, service and ambiance very nice.
Have to say that mother atmosphere is great in quaint home converted. Drinks are well made. Quality of service and the food is better than the very Hyped restaurant on the square. It’s my new go to place when in town!
Food was excellent as well as service and drinks. Was a little noisy to start out due to the final four game being on but that’s expected. Quieter down nicely once the game finished up. We will be coming back for sure the margaritas are phenomenal
All around great experience! I called to make sure children were welcome for a Saturday night dinner. The return phone call I received was so refreshing and welcoming that I knew we would have a wonderful birthday dinner for my Mom. It really was a great dinner and we will be returning to both Blue Herron and Grey Goose (as both have the same owner).
Food great. Service ok bar slow. Noise level was nearly unbearable
Love this place buy we were disappointed with this visit. Our waiter was super distracted and forgot to bring us bread, our bill, etc. For the money we expected great service and a feeling like we had been taken care of, instead we left feeling like we had to flag him down all night.
We had a reservation for this evening and when we showed up, the young snooty hostess said “... we don’t have your reservation and we are booked full...” ??? No apology and then offered for us to sit at the bar with our 3 year old daughter. Wow?!
Hello again Keith Clark here. After some research I was able to determine your cancelled reservation was 5/11 . It was in fact canceled by mistake and I’m terribly sorry. It’s never happened before and I hope never again. Please share your mailing address so that I may send you a gift card for your trouble. It will be a AMX Card good anywhere not just my establishment. Again my apologies. Sincerely, Keith Clark
Great foods and Wonderful Steak, Best Steal restaurant in Lexington !!
Four of us ate at the Blue Heron, I ordered sirloin steak, one party ordered the pork chop and two of our party ordered the grouper special. Steak and pork were outstanding. Grouper was overcooked and tough. We informed the waiter he might not want to suggest the grouper to his other customers. He offered to take it off our bill, buy us a dessert, etc. We didn't do any of those things, just suggested he needed to inform the kitchen. Cooking fish takes a special touch and perhaps we shouldn't expect a steak house have it. We'll come back but probably will stick with meat entrees in the future.
I took my wife for our anniversary, and it was wonderful. Good steak, good wine, good service. We were very pleased, I highly recommend blue heron.
Blue Heron is consistently one of our favorite date night spots in Lexington.
