About
"Blue Ginger is unusual, not only because of the food or the room, but because it's a neighborhood restaurant of a type not found too often in the Boston area...those of us who live farther away will just have to travel now that the secret is out." --The Boston Globe
Blue Ginger has been one of my favorites of all time. I had my last butterfish and bitter chocolate cake. Where will we go for Valentine's, Mother's Day, holidays, and birthdays now??
Best of luck Ming Tsai!
Sadly, our final meal at Blue Ginger was disappointing. From the hostess pointedly ignoring my husband to acknowledge another person upon their arrival to finding the lobster entrée not as delectable as in the past, the evening left us disheartened we had selected Blue Ginger for a Grandparents Birthday celebratory dinner. While we wish Ming and Polly well with their new ventures, it appears the Blue Ginger we enjoyed so fondly over the years has moved on as well.
Fabulous as always, will REALLY miss this! Wish the scallops had been on the menu too, but everything was fabulous.
Wonderful restaurant with many memories shared here over the past 15+ years... so sad to see it close. A unique gem amidst much of the "same old" restaurants in the Boston area.
One of the chef's specials, the Garlic-Black Pepper Lobster, was one of the best meals that I have ever eaten. The lobster was cooked to perfection - the key, however, was the sauce. Robust, intensely favorable, with a pleasant amount of "kick".
My husband and I were dining with another couple for the last time before Blue Ginger closes. I have always been grateful for the attention to my anaphylactic food allergies. Ming Tsai was overseeing the kitchen that evening so I felt especially safe. Our server was gracious but it took exactly two and a half hours to get our dinner. I find this unacceptable! It ruined what was supposed to be a very special evening with close friends. We paid for our appetizers and the manager offered us our dinners for free. Despite this generous gesture, we were deeply disappointed.
Sad to see Blue Ginger closing. If you haven't eaten here, do so before June 3rd. You won't be disappointed. I want wish my buddy Ming all the success in his new chapter and journey. Thanks for the great meals my friend.
Loved the chance to have one more meal at Blue Ginger before it closes. The butterfish was amazing and my guest enjoyed the lamb rack, plus the shumei app. Ming came by our table which was a special treat. Thank you to him and the WONDERFUL front of the house staff for making this a memorable experience.
Sorry this gem is closing. We've always enjoyed it and will have to track down Ming Tsai's brilliance elsewhere
We will miss having Blue Ginger in Wellesley after it closes in June.
Since Blue Ginger will be closing very soon, my husband and I wanted to make sure that we made it back there. We had a wonderful meal and experience! We both started with drinks-- my husband had a sake and and I had the gimlet, which with the ginger made a classic cocktail even better. We had the calamari to start, which was excellent. We both had the lobster for our entree and it was outstanding. The lobster was perfectly cooked and the rice and sauce that came with it complimented it well. For dessert, we had the chocolate cake, which was the perfect end to a delicious evening. We will miss you, Blue Ginger!
It's sad that Blue Ginger will soon be closing. We've had many memorable meals there over the past 20 years. We ate there for the last time on Mother's Day and the food did not disappoint. The Miso-sake butterfish and New Zealand rack of lamb were our favorites. Ming was in the house and we thanked him for the memories.
Wonderful, inventive food. Very expensive but worth it if you like innovative cuisine. Too bad it's closing soon.
Knowing the restaurant is closing is quite apparent in the staffs attitude and attention.
Too bad for Ming to have his restaurants memory ruined in this last ditch effort
Everything was done so well. The food was terrific, the service was friendly and efficient, and the entire evening was exceptionally pleasant. It is sad that in just a few weeks the restaurant will be closed for good.
Such a wonderful restaurant, unfortunately they are closing soon after a 20+ year journey!
We were so sorry to hear the restaurant is closing. We have celebrate many happy and special occasions at Blue Ginger. We were fortunate to be able to celebrate my husband's birthday before the closing in June.
The service and food is exceptional.
Good experience. Sorry to see it close, so I guess we will have to go to Blue Dragon!
Always had a great meal at Blue Ginger. Going to miss the fabulous food and the awesome staff.
Once again Blue Ginger was outstanding! Fantastic meal and wonderful service!
An outstanding experience, as always! Sad to see it closing.
We shall miss this very special restaurant. We have frequented it through the years. The food has never let us down. Best if luck to
Ming in his new restaurants n
Alas, Blue Ginger is closing at the end of the month. But if someone reads this review and can snag a reservation before it closes, do so! Great dishes with an Asian flare and an excellent wine menu. One of our favorite suburban Boston restaurants; it will be missed.
Excellent tasting food. Very busy, probably because it's closing soon. Get there now if u can!
So sad this fabulous place is closing! Delicious fusion flavors. Attentive service. This was our go-to-place for special occasions or entertaining out-of-town guests.
The lobster dish which is a signature dish was disappointing. Was sold on it when waiter said it was to die for but I'm still alive. In my opinion, it was slightly overbaked. I expected to be wowed by it but there was no, wow, this lobster is unbelievable. I expected it to be succulent. It wasn't dry but not as moist and tender as it should have been. Garlic-peppery sauce was a little too peppery for me. My brother said he didn't mind. Mussels were excellent. Large plump and juicy. Chocolate cake was beautifully presented and delicious. That was "to die for". Sister had butterfish and said it was so good. Woman next to us said it was delicious too.
Waitstaff was professional. Came around constantly to fill water glasses and remove dishes.
Overall, a very good dining experience.
Was so disappointed to learn Blue Ginger will be closing June 3. Absolutely one of the great dining experiences in the greater Boston area. Tonight's meal was exceptional. Blue Ginger, you will be missed.
We like this restaurant and appreciate their effort to provide such great food.
I've been here twice before and had really great food, but this time I really did not think the dish tasted right.
Beyond words. Have had Blue Ginger on my list of places to try for years; saw that it was closing so made a reservation right away. Very happy that I did. Had the Butterfish entree that was spectacular. Was thinking if I am lucky enough to make it back before they close I may just have it again. Drinks, apps and dessert were all delicious. GO before it's too late.
Have had many wonderful meals here over the years. But sadly, my latest visit was my last as Blue Ginger is closing. If you haven't already dined here, try to squeeze your way in before it's too late.
Sorry they are closing. Hoping to visit again before the grand finale. Hopefully, all will go well in the new spot.
Great place.......sad it's closing in 19 days!!!!!!
Very interesting menu....something for every taste. The curry was delicious with an different twist ( sausage & chicken). My dining partner had a steak which was very tasty and tender. Looking forward to going back and trying some other dishes!
Blue Ginger food is like no other. It will be missed by my family as our favorite special occasion spot.
As other reviewers have mentioned, the food was overly salted, though my friend didn't seem to mind. The flavors were interesting and complementary, but I felt the value wasn't quite there for the cost of the entree. In addition, my friend, who used to own her own restaurant, felt compelled to complain to the hostess about the slowness and inattentiveness of the server.
Good ambience and service. Order drinker was really good too but had limited vegetarian choices. Appetizer was good but main course was not.
The watercress soup looked unappetizing and did not have much flavor, however, the butter fish was the complete opposite. I would go back just for that. The drinks were just ok but the desserts were yummy.
Always have been delighted with the delicious food, the beautiful presentation and the wonderful service at Blue Ginger. Sorry that it is closing in June and hope to get back before it closes. Thank you, thank you Ming Tsai!
Food and ambience were great but the wait staff was not very attentive. The restaurant was not crowded and so can't say I understand why this was the case. All experiences at Blue Ginger have otherwise been all around delightful.
