Blue Fin - Columbia
Made on open table reservation and was seated immediately. That's all the good that I have to say. Service was extremely slow and food was not prepared properly. Once the manager saw me send food back, he visited every table except ours....would not try this again. At an average of $50 per person this is not the food, quality, or service that you would expect.
My husband and I with our Son and daughter n law
Wanted some place different for dinner!! So I remembered coming to Blue Fin some years back and I enjoyed it then and I’m so glad I remembered!!
We all really enjoyed everything. Our server was excellent and our cuisine was delicious!! We will be back again and again!!
I think Blue Fin is probably a really good restaurant and my experience here was good (on a scale of Poor to Excellent). I was a little disappointed in the quality of the food, but my standards are pretty high so it wouldn’t be on my list to readily recommend to a discerning patron. Having said that, I would give it another try as I don’t think one experience is always enough to make an ultimate judgment.
I took a date here and the atmosphere was perfect for a date. It’s a nicely appointed restaurant and has a casual upscale feel to it. Our server, Shayla was knowledgeable and friendly and was kind enough to remove an item from our bill (Oysters Rockefeller) that we found to taste unfresh. I ordered a swordfish special in a sriracha sauce and my date had spinach w/ a mashed potato side (a miscommunication as she meant to order the Fried Flounder). The portion of swordfish was smaller than I was expecting, but the flavor was decent. I tried my date’s spinach and it was very bland (it was plain spinach, so I get it). We didn’t have a chance to try dessert, but I will plan on doing that on a follow-up visit for a fair assessment. They also had a fried oyster appetizer w/ grits that looked amazing- although I am wary after the Oyster Rockefeller experience.
I will follow up this review after my next visit.
Excellent food and service. The bartender also knows how to make a good drink.
They were out of Coca Cola and Lemonade. My friend ordered a lemon drop martini and was told they were out then ordered the Coke and they were out.
We looked at their menu online when we were deciding where to go for dinner. When we get there they were only doing a limited menu due to the Holidays or at least that’s what we were told. With no substitutions allowed. So needless to say we were very disappointed. We couldn’t get some of the things that were on their online menu.
Where we sat we could hear the waitresses complaining about each other and sharing their stories of arguments with other members of the staff.
Great staff and waiter. We love the place for its overall value.
Have been here multiple times and the food and service has always been great. Would recommend Blue fin highly.
Always great service
The host never received my open table reservation. But they had room for our table for 6 on a Saturday night at 6:30. Every in my party had fish and raved about it. I had steak it was good but nothing to write home about. They answered all our questions and food request. I would go back.
Great service and great filet mignon! Will return!
Service was excellent. Suggestions were provided and we loved it.
Service and food very good. Ive visit Bluefin often and this was one of my best experiences.
Great experience. Would do it again.
We had the filet minion and catfish, as well as mussels and she crab soup. Delicious, although all were a little too salty this time. Server was polite, friendly, and efficient. Had a delicious beer and sweet tea
Great seafood platter. All was fresh and hot. Also had the clams for an app and martinis. Great service and atmosphere. Have dined here before and will again.
Delicious as alway!
The waitress was very attentive and the food was great.
Service was ok, got the special but it came out completely different than what was advertised and we weren’t told until the plate was brought out. Food is way overpriced for the quality. If you are craving seafood go somewhere else!
One of the worst meals in Columbia. Embarrassed to bring my family.
Way too much alcohol in the drinks. I might as well have gotten a shot. Bartender wasn't very attentive. You can tell she had her regulars and just kept complaining about her job. We moved from the bar to a booth. Much better there. The food is subpar but good enough for a quick bite. Wouldn't recommend as a date place. Not a good location either.
For some unknown reason, even though the restaurant was nowhere near full when we arrived (with a reservation) they seated us at a table in the bar. There were a party of four near us at the bar who were having a good time doing their own play by play commentary about a football game on the TV - which is fine when you are at a bar, but made having a quiet conversation at our table almost impossible. The serving of fish my wife ordered was paper-thin and overcooked to the consistency of cardboard. The meat entree I had was cooked as ordered, but tough. The vegetables we had were delicious. When we left the restaurant at about 8:15 PM we walked out into a street scene jammed with literally hundreds of teen-agers loitering in the area (obstructing pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks on both sides of the street, yelling to or at each other across the street), and a very heavy police presence (no fewer than six police vehicles in the street, blue lights flashing, within 50 yards of the front of the restaurant.) The walk from the restaurant to where we parked our car was not at all pleasant. This was our first and last visit to this restaurant.
conversation at our table l
This was our second time here and it did not disappoint. We had seafood, steak, and pasta- all were delicious!
We had a family get together and everyone had a good time and we loved thd food. The Shrimp and Grits were delicious but just a little bit to much to eat before the entre. I’m sure we will be back and I will recomend this restaurant to my friends.
Blue Fin has good food, but I likely won’t visit it again in its current location. I didn’t realize it was in The Village of Sandhill when we made the reservation. It’s not a place I visit often so the address didn’t ring a bell. When we arrived, we were overwhelmed by the large groups of teens and young adults walking around and the presence of police offers on every corner. As we were walking to Blue Fin from our parking spot, we had to walk around a group of teens who were arguing with an officer because curfew was in effect and he was instructing them to move to a specific area and call their parents. It was NOT the vibe I was looking for when I browsed Open Table for a place to celebrate our 17th anniversary. When we walked into Blue Fin it was immediately obvious that our reservation wasn’t necessary- as there were maybe 6 tables occupied at 7pm on a Saturday. My assumption is that the situation outside is impacting business. Our server was attentive, but I believe she only had us and one other table. The food was good and the menu was creative. Unique pairings of side dishes and ingredients. I did feel it lacked a little “wow” factor that I long for from a restaurant at this price point. There wasn’t anything wrong with the meals, they just didn’t overly impress me or my husband. Dessert fell short, however. New York style cheese cake and the chocolate cake were both just average. The atmosphere was quiet and sophisticated, which we appreciate. Sadly, most of our dinner conversation was about how surprised we were by the situation outside, and our speculation over what it would be like when we walked back to our car.
On that note, our return to our car was amongst twice as many groups of teens and young adults than when we arrived. Clearly the curfew isn’t effective or enforced. Therefore- we won’t be back.
The restaurant is not fairly rated. Is a total scam. It is not what you expect for a 4.5 rating from OpenTable. I ordered a Crab cake sandwich and was surprised the bread came cold and the crab patties (they were 2! small just like the ones sold frozenat a supermarket). The place was not in good shape and the bathrooms dirty.
The mirrors in the back where we sat were very dirty. The complimentary bread we were served lasted awful! The food we were served was ok but a bit bland.
Frequent Blue Fin regularly, always great food and service.
The food and service were outstanding, but the temperature inside was at least 75-76 degrees.
Good as always. Great service and excellent food. Drinks are very good too. Highly recommend this restaurant,
My server and m anager were fabulous and very understanding when my date got lost and got there 15 minutes before closing. I had already ordered for him and they were gracious and allowed him to eat.
Everything we had was tasty and well seasoned from the shrimp and grits to the salmon to the pasta and shrimp to the fried fish platter. How do I know? Because I tasted everybody's plate.
Mother’s Day dinner was wonderful!
Overall is was a decent experience. The positive side is we didn’t wait long because we had a reservation. The food was mediocre. My sister in law requested a slight addition to the entree and the chef said no. The waitress was friendly which helped.
The food and atmosphere were fine, but the service was painfully slow. I don't think it was the servers fault, but it took a solid 45 minutes from ordering to receiving our food.
The food was amazing as well as the service. We were sat immediately with our reservations and our server brought us all water as she greeted the table. Cocktails came within 5 minutes and appetizers were very quick as well. Our entrees were served within 5-8 minutes of finishing our appetizers. No complaints at all. Everything was delicious and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves seafood.
Shabby interior, dirty bathrooms, and bland food. Overall, very disappointing experience.
Didn’t have several menu items. Service acceptable but distracted.
Everything about the meal was amazing, our server, Shayla. even brought us a sauce that didn’t come with our spring rolls that paired amazingly. The steak was great and the pork chop was delicious! Thank you for a great night out Shayla!
