Blue Duck Tavern, a contemporary neighborhood restaurant, invites its guests to gather and celebrate in good taste with a menu focusing on the freshest ingredients available from local purveyors and artisans. The menu notes every farm where the main ingredient for the dish was raised before its journey to the table. Dishes are genuine, time-honored and traditional -- slow roasting in wood embers, braising, preserving and smoking techniques bring the true flavors of America's great, simple and wholesome foods to the Blue Duck Tavern.

The restaurant has an elegant residential feel through the open staff pantry and kitchen, wood-burning oven and the showpiece Molteni range.

*Please note that for diners bringing in wine, a $35 corkage fee (per 750 ml bottle of wine), with a limit of two bottles, will be charged.

Excellent food. One of my favorite restaurants. This is not an "affordable" restaurant but its worth it. My favorite is the short rib hash - yummy. Great ambiance, service and food. Just go!

I have had uniformly good experiences with Blue Duck Tavern in the past and am sure I will have them in the future as well. But this time was a substantial disappointment, on Valentine’s Day.

Blue Duck Tavern offers a leisurely fine dining experience. It was not surprising, therefore, that it took quite some time for the canapés, offered “on the house,” to come to our table. But then our first course was delivered about 2 minutes later and placed at the side of the dishes we were starting to eat. When my spouse expressed surprise that “2 courses” were delivered so close together, the waiter explained that they were not “2 courses” but instead the canapés and the first course — which was literally true but missed the entire point. Who wants to have 2 dishes sitting on the table at the same time as part of a leisurely fine-dining experience.

The other problem was that, although the food was excellent as always, it was way overpriced, with a mandatory 4-course meal. The $321 plus tip that we paid was at least $100 more than the meal was worth, even giving full credit to the excellence of the food.

I will continue to patronize Blue Duck Tavern — but never again on a similar special occasion.

We went on Valentine’s Day. The food was inconsistent. Some dishes were lovely like the truffled Pheasant. The grilled lobster was a tiny half with strong seasoning and bits of popcorn over it Trying a bit too hard to be unique. It was a four course dinner fixed price 135 each. The starter crudités were excellent. The salad first course was fair and dull. The two desserts were fair. I was underwhelmed and for three the final bill with drinks and wine was over 500+. Expected more

First let me say, it was extremely beautiful. I loved the wood and glass decor and the ambience and the way the staff looked genuinely happy to greet you. This was my first time basing a restaurant on a Michelin Star. I definitely felt a different atmosphere. More professional service and a special dining experience - would return if I wasn't on a quest to try as many restaurants as I can. The scallops were superb, as well as the Brussel sprouts. I tried this house made soda that was extremely tasty. Had no room for dessert. but the menu had 5 different dishes that I would have been willing to try.
I really enjoyed this restaurant and food. Make it a point to make a reservation if you are staying at the Hyatt or the Fairmount across the street.

Food service was extremely slow despite repeated check-ins. Staff didn’t offer a reason or an apology, my 9YO was starving and I had to ask for some bread. Food was good, but nothing to write home about. Expected more from a 1-star.

This place does not deserve his one Michelin star. The chef has changed since they got it and the standard is far from where it should be for the price we clients have to pay. Mark up on the wine is too high and the food is average. It’s never to late to improve and raise the standards! Hopefully they will.

I frequently travel to DC and am always excited and curious regarding the tremendous culinary offerings available in the city. Blue Duck had been highly rated and this was the first opportunity I had to actually dine there. In short, O was disappointed. Granted it was brunch but the offerings did not have the panache not flavor that I anticipated; moreover, a little pricey. I will say that the bar drinks were original and very tasteful.Blue Duck Tavern, been there, done that and over it.

Because the din was incessantly excessive requiring any conversation to be yelled, the overall experience was unpleasant.
The dishes by-in-large were adventurous and successful on a hit-or-miss basis This was surprisingly more so than we remember from our other times dining at BDT. There were fewer choices for those diners who aren't venturesome than we remember from previous times.
Our party specially ordered roast duck, which was a delight for all. But it was served with various uneatable parts, such a bowl of offal. We were subjected a lengthy lecture on what was to be eaten and what not. Better not to serve cooked items that aren't to be ingested.
Sadly, I ordered the "oyster stew." What was served was anything but an oyster stew. The broth was very tasty and more fitting for a bisque. And it come with an oyster -- one huge, raw oyster, which was outside of my six decades of experience relishing many variations of o. s. Basically, a seafood stew marries all the ingredients, and certainly no ingredient goes uncooked. Because no warning was given about the raw oyster, I grade this dish as a failure.
The dessert, the house apple pie, was a mixed bag. The crust was superb. The pie's sauce was pleasantly flavorful. But, the slices of Granny Smith were too firm. While our party of four shared just one order of the pie, which was billed as being for two, we left some of it unfinished. Fortunately, two complimentary dishes of a very nice vanilla ice cream also were served. (Were we to dine again at BDT, we'd order scoops of the vanilla with a side of the butterscotch sauce.)
We were disappointed with our dining experience.

Our third time here. A reliable eatery in DC for consistently good food. Our waitress was friendly but needed to be reminded about a couple of requests. The scallops were great, the vegetarian pot pie was also very good though the gravy a bit heavy. Highly recommend the bootstrap molasses cake.

We got the vegetable pot pie which was so oversalted that I had to send it back (and I have never ever done that in my life!) - but there was no apology or even a discussion - they just took the plate and brought me another (almost immediately when I complained). I didn't think the second one was cooked all that well, but felt bad saying anything at that point. Not sure why they didn't say anything about it, I would have been fine had they just agreed or even said anything!

An out-of-town friend, a local friend and I went to the Blue Duck Tavern. My friend was in town for a professional meeting. We three had a good time catching up. We began with a cured meat & artisan cheese board for an appetizer. My OOT friend had the braised beef ribs served with pickled fresno chimichurri as her entrée. My L friend had the herb-roasted scallops served with farro verde, eggplant puree & baby leek confit. Demonstrated my usual lack of imagination, I had a 12 oz NY prime strip steak. The meat was so tender that you could cut it with a butter knife. My steak was served with horseradish cream. All three entrées could not have been better. We finished our meal by sharing a little apple pie that was meant for two but was plenty for the three of us. It was 2" x 5" and made with Granny Smith apples. It was a good as everything else. Oh yes, the Tavern’s acoustics are excellent. The restaurant was full, yet we couldn’t hear the other tables’ conversations and we could converse with ease.

Blue duck tavern met my expectations! Been trying to go forever and finally made it there. Started with Foie gras and rye cavatelli, both delicious. Foie gras was light mousse like tecture and flavorful. I'd get the cavatelli again for sure. We ordered the scallops and steak and both were delicious. I would have like more horseradish sauce on the bottom of the steak. Scallops were enormous and cooked perfectly - a tad bit gritty, but nothing too unappealing. Ended with chocolate cake and peanut butter brownie ice cream which was great! Bottle of willamette valley pinot made it a solid meal! Would definitely go back.

We loved the ambiance, food, and service. The food was excellent. The valet is well worth it at 12.00 dollars. We hd the duck and scallops. For the appetizer the hamachi crudo was amazing and the bone marrow was interesting and delicious. This quality came at a price. Be prepared to spend.

My boyfriend and I live nearby and have visited BDT often. The quality has seemed to decline a bit. For the price, It should be an exceptional dining experience. The duck is not as tender as it once was and the portion size is smaller. The boar, which came highly recommended by the waiter, was incredibly chewy. When not accompanied by anything except sauerkraut, it should be perfectly cooked meat.

The two-top tables are also shoved way too close together, making for a less than relaxing vibe.

We met at Blue Duck Tavern for a book group discussion. I had requested a quiet corner and they delivered! We had a wonderful table in a private corner, perfect for our conversation. The service was impeccable, the food delicious, and setting superb. We will definitely be back!

We had been to blue duck tavern previously and enjoyed dinner. Had brunch there as well but wouldn’t go back for that. When we returned for dinner, hoping that brunch was a glitch, we left disappointed. The duck entree is absolutely lifeless. I have made better duck at home. The bread was dry and boring. We did enjoy the hamachi crudo appetizer. All in all, very mediocre food for a restaurant with a Michelin star. I’ll spend my money and time somewhere else in Washington instead.

Phenomenal. Service was attentive and informative without being intrusive. The food was truly remarkable. Perfectly cooked, stunning presentation, amazing flavors. Certainly not the most inexpensive meal in town, but worth the investment.

Celebrated birthday with family. Pleased in every way. Excellent location. Easy access with valet parking. Inspired menu. No dish disappointed. The person's birthday was made to feel special due to some added touches. Will definitely go back.

The restaurant surely looks nice but the service was sub-par and only some of the dishes were good.

Service-wise, my wife and I simply got none. We reserved for brunch and arrive at around 1130am, the place was pretty empty, but it took 5 to 10 mintues until our server, Shiva, swing by to get us some water. The server dressed and spoke professionally but the level of service and attentiveness was not. We waited another 20 minutes until i lost patience and had to ask Shiva to come by and take our order. My wife and i were being ignored the whole time because our server failed to provide us the same standard of service he provided to the 2 tables next to us. He took the time to explain the items on today's special to them while he didnt mention anything to us any all. Further more, both tables next to us got bread but we didnt. Anyway, we finished our food quickly and left. By the time we stepped out of the restaurant door, it was about 1pm, which means it took us 1.5 hr for a freaking brunch at a not so busy place. Not to mention that the 2 tables next to us arrived 10-15 mintues after us but they finished and left 10-15 mintues before us.

Food-wise, i found the bone marrow was too sweet for my taste because of the diced-mango sauce, everything else was great otherwise. My wife got the brussel sprout salad with roasted chicken, which was really impressive. Especially the chicken, it was flavorful and juicy, they cooked it perfectly, a must try. The burger i ordered was disappointing on the other hand. I asked for a medium cooked burger but they gave me a well done one instead. The burger tasted very familiar at first, not until half way through i found the burger resembles the taste of a Big-Mac, perhaps it was the sauce, the cheese and the shredded lettuce. Do not order the burger, you may as well buy a big mac and swap out the pattie with real burger meat.
Price wise, the meal was not too expensive.
