Blue Duck Tavern, a contemporary neighborhood restaurant, invites its guests to gather and celebrate in good taste with a menu focusing on the freshest ingredients available from local purveyors and artisans. The menu notes every farm where the main ingredient for the dish was raised before its journey to the table. Dishes are genuine, time-honored and traditional -- slow roasting in wood embers, braising, preserving and smoking techniques bring the true flavors of America's great, simple and wholesome foods to the Blue Duck Tavern.

The restaurant has an elegant residential feel through the open staff pantry and kitchen, wood-burning oven and the showpiece Molteni range.

*Please note that for diners bringing in wine, a $35 corkage fee (per 750 ml bottle of wine), with a limit of two bottles, will be charged.

We dined here on my boyfriend's birthday for the first time. Everything was exceptional, we had the bone marrow appetizer along with the oysters. As our main courses we had the salmon and the braised short rib again amazing! The braised short rib was very tender. For dessert we had an assortment I cannot recall but we are not disappointed. The food was amazing every step of the way but the star of the evening was definitely our server, David. He was great, very attentive and had excellent recommendations. We just went back this past weekend for our anniversary and he actually came and cleaned our table in between courses even though he was not our server. We will definitely return and thanks David for the AMAZING service.

Not a Michelin Star quality restaurant (at least not based on European standards). The scallops/halibut, and foie gras/duck were excellent, although the foie gras was an unusual preparation. Very casual atmosphere, as was the dress for most customers. More for everyday relaxed dining rather than special occasion.

Beautiful restaurant with ezcellent service, but we found the food underwhelming. The salad was too simple, the veal was half gristle with bland sauces, the BDT fries were a bit mushy, and the brussel sprouts were too sweet.

Very average experience. Went on New Year's Day so maybe an off night. From check-in to the check everything was very average for a one Michelin starred restaurant.

Blue Duck never disappoints!! Our food was amazing from the duck, to the Brussel sprout sides, to the bouillabaisse! Everything was perfectly prepared and served. My only complaint, and it is small, was our waiter never returned to refill wine or water glasses - but we were quite able to do our own. It was lovely and we will return soon!

Service was not great. Food was ok. It didn’t feel like a high end restaurant. For the price, you can get better food and service elsewhere.

I understand that this restaurant is in a hotel, however, the amount of people in sweatpants greatly outnumbered the people who had taken time to shower at noon on a Monday.

Amazing restaurant. Our waiter didn't speak English well which made asking questions confusing. Coffee is overpriced ($7 per person), but the brunch burger and pecan sticky buns were incredible.

I may have had an unrealistic idea of what this restaurant would be like. The decor and ambiance is fair. I was anticipating an upscale nicely appointed restaurant, but there was really nothing to write home about. We originally were seated in a section where the tables were inches away from each other, and while that may work for others, I don't prefer to eat with strangers and sit on their coats because there is no room. We waiting for about 20 minutes a bigger and quieter table which was great. Unfortunately, moving to the quieter table meant we were moved to the "trainee" section. The server we had is in desperate need of re-training. They apologized for forgetting to bring us food we didn't order, and we had empty glasses and dirty dishes on our table for more than 15 minutes while we waited for them to ask about dessert/coffee/etc. Once they did come by they had no idea what type of tea they had, and it took another ten minutes after I asked twice for the menu of tea options. Lastly, when clearing the plates, the waiter took all of the dirty dishes AND my food that was to be boxed in one hand. It is unclear as to why they couldn't quickly take my food, box it, and then take the remaining dishes. Just strange. The entire experience was unfortunately very negative due to the service issues. The server was a very nice person, but seriously.

One of our favorite restaurants unfortunately this Visit was a total miss. All the dishes were changed with the new seasonal menu and everything we Ordered was terrible and not cooked properly.

The duck was out of this world delicious: served both on the bone and a smokier version off the bone. The side dish of cheese grits was notably wonderful as well. Lovely setting.

First they could not find my reservation till I showed them the confirmation e mail. The wait staff failed to supply us with bread untill asked. The drinks were not brought out together. The steak was ordered rate and arrived medium (No pink or red center) The waiter was a wok most of the time even while the dining room was half full. After we were getting our coats the hostess rembered to give us after dinner chocolates @ the host stand. At least the cocktails and deserts were excellent. A disappointment for a Michelin one star.

We had eaten lunch at the BDT last New Years time and had enjoyed it immensely so when we once again came to DC at the New Year to visit friends we suggested the BDT. Unfortunately the service was slow and disjointed and the food was not up to the standard set last year or what one would assume for a restaurant of this quality and price point.

Great food. The sides are especially great—make sure to leave room. The foie gras brûlée was a nice treat. Butchers cut was good. Service was excellent—informed, pleasant, fast.

Our dinner at the Blue Duck Tavern was one of the best meals that I have ever had! From the friendly waiters and staff, to the hip yet casual atmosphere, to the delicious food, I cannot say enough about what an amazing meal my husband and I had. We started with an appetizer of bone marrow and then went on to enjoy finely cooked duck and perfectly cooked halibut. Along with brussel sprouts, wild mushrooms and spinach and hand cut fries. We ended with homemade vanilla ice cream. The pace of the dinner was perfect. We were seated in a special glass cube table that made us feel as if we were VIP's. Our waiter Kenneth was helpful and attentive without being annoying. His service was superb. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys excellent food in a hip atmosphere. Awesome experience.

What a delightful restaurant. The staff are warm and accommodating, the ambiance warm and inviting and the food warm and exciting. Yes, it was cold the day we went for lunch. You can see my theme.

I had heard a lot about the Blue Duck Tavern. Sometimes that sets the bar too high and you get disappointed. That is not the case at The Blue Duck Tavern.

I’m a former cook so I enjoyed the fact that the kitchen is right in the dining room. There is no sense hiding that $100,000 Molteni range and wood fired oven. It is a work of art, as is the food the kitchen staff creates on and in them. They are cooks who develop complex flavors without hiding the taste of the main ingredients, not a simple task. The wine list is interesting and goes perfectly with the food. Do yourself a favor and take your significant other there for a treat.

My girls and I splurge every year during the holidays on a special dinner out. After looking at reviews, ratings and recommendations I choose Blue Duck Tavern. We were seated at a corner table that was terribly cold. There was no ambiance whatsoever. When I asked to be moved to a table inside, I was told nothing was available. Yet when I walked around the place, it was nearly empty. The menu is not large so to be out of a dish was a bit annoying. (They were all out of the oysters) Service was so-so, and the food ok. The recommended dessert of apple pie with ice cream (which cost $30+) was lukewarm. All in all not a great experience for me and cannot understand the Michelin star rating.

My meal came out coldish warm. I thought it would come out hot. The vegetable on the bottom stuck to the pan because it wasn't hot enough.

I have been to Blue Duck many times and every time I go back I am even more impressed! The food completely stands on its own but it is the service that always impresses me most. Every employee seems genuinely happy to be there and happy to help you in anyway they can! I will continue to recommend Blue Duck and plan on visiting anytime I am in the DC area!

The wait staff was excellent and made good recommendations. The food was so well done - hats off to the whole kitchen team. Just delicious!
