Blue Duck Tavern
The restaurant has an elegant residential feel through the open staff pantry and kitchen, wood-burning oven and the showpiece Molteni range.

Up your game - there are tons of options in DC and blue duck used to be a favorite. Not so much anymore
The chairs are super noisy. Food is amazing but our waiter did not tell us about the specials
Lovely outdoor spot, with excellent food and drink. Perfect for a quiet evening dinner.
Atmosphere and food was fantastic. We had the smoked duck wings, duck beast, scallops, mushrooms, and cheesecake. Everything was exceptional.
Birthday dinner was amazing!
Best food I have ever had. The Bone Marrow is amazing
the food is very heavy and not well balanced. We had the corn chowder and it was good but it had some pieces of "something" that were hard and produced a horrible sensation when I would bite into one of them by accident. the Foie gras was too sweet and came with cakes that tasted like baking powder. Duck was too greasy and the Porchetta was horrible. we left most of our food intact.
Excellent food with fresh ingredients. Salads were excellent. The patio was perfect for a sunny (not humid) day.
The toasted while duck is sooooo great, it’s not ok the menu make sure you ask for it!!!
The service could not have been better. However, the pork dish was too dry and the duck not particularly special.
Blue Duck Tavern is an amazing restaurant located just inside of the Hyatt hotel on 24th street. The ambiance, friendliness and attentiveness of the staff, and the food were all exceptional. The food is extremely well-thought out, and the parts of my dish I didn’t think I’d enjoy, I enjoyed the most. Below is a picture of the Halibut offered during lunch.
We celebrated our anniversary at Blue Duck Tavern, and had such a wonderful time. Everyone went out of their way to make our dinner incredibly special - from the personalized menus to all the staff wishing us a happy anniversary... even the personal touch on our desserts, and how they gave us an extra scoop of ice cream we were considering and a champagne toast all on the house. Jeremy in particular was so friendly and helpful with recommendations.
The food was beyond amazing. All the flavors were really unique and bold. The duck wings stood out - these were so good, we could have had several plates of these for both our appetizer and entree. But it's good that we didn't. The wood-roasted duck breast was SO good, probably the most pure duck flavor I have ever had (and I am a huge fan of duck). The porchetta was just perfect - tender and crisp at the same time - how did you do that?? And the dessert. Wow, the dessert. We were so stuffed at this point (2 apps, 2 entrees, 1 side), but we knew we had to have dessert. Everything sounded so good, but we decided on the cheesecake which was luscious, light, and such a fantastic combination of flavors. We were also debating going the lighter route and having a scoop of the banana-peanut butter ice cream. They gave it to us anyway. And we LOVED it.
So we walked out of the restaurant, stuffed beyond our limits and with entree leftovers, just elated from the wonderful dinner we had at Blue Duck Tavern. The dinner we had at Blue Duck Tavern was, hands down, the best we have ever had (even more than 3 Michelin Star restaurants we have been to in the past - this place deserves 4). We live about 250 miles away, but we will definitely be visiting on our anniversary again next year. Thank you to everyone!!
I tried to change the reservation from 6 to 7:30 they said they were full. We ended up with a 9 pm reservation. When e got there the restaurant was practically empty. No bothered to call to see if I wanted to come in earlier. The food was ok not really special. I thought my scallop dish was a little busy to many components. Overall I am a little disappointed.
Would not recommend or go back was expecting a lot more from this restaurant.
We have been many times previously and went for Fathers Day brunch. We were greeted by two people at the door who clearly had zero training in how to set a good first impression; they looked bored and were completely absorbed in typing on their iPads, which could not have been revealing any information since they weren't seating or talking to any of the awaiting diners. Despite the fact that we were precisely on time for our reservation, and it was the first reservation of the day so no one was seated, they told us it would be a few minutes before we could be seated. No excuse for seating people late on a first seating, particularly on a "holiday" when many families would be celebrating.
We waited 35 minutes after ordering, and they randomly brought out a bread basket and said our order was taking longer than they thought. 10 minutes later a manager came out an explained that they didn't have the pasta we ordered for my 2-year-old and had decided to make it from scratch. Why not tell us right away and ask if we wanted to order something else or wait? They then brought out our other food (overcooked eggs, forgot half my four-year-old's order) 50 minutes after ordering, my two year old had a meltdown (still no pasta for him) and we had to leave before he ate anything. Completely ruined our Father's Day family lunch. To their credit, after first saying we wouldn't be charged for the items that never arrived, they reversed and said they wouldn't charge us for our meal since it was clearly a horrible experience. Sadly, this will be my last visit.
The Blue Duck is my go to place for special occasions. It never disappoints. While other restaurants produce the same dishes year in and out the same way, the Blue Duck experiments and cooks them with new twists. Yet, I am always pleased at the results, The restaurant is one of the very few where I can trust the chef to be creative.
My husband and I first visit was so good, on our second visit we bought our friends to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary. Food and service were just as superior as the first visit. Bone marrow, chicken and waffles, crab cakes, BDT fries, the burger, white cheddar grits, everything came out hot and was delicious. The cocktails --- so yummy. We had friends in our group that do not drink Bloody Marys actually drinking Bloody Marys because they were so good. Mojitos, mimosas, wine all delicious. Everything is just amazing. Truly fresh food for a reasonable price. The Ambiance is amazing to.
The food was absolutely amazing, and so was the service!!
Food is exceptional, but the service is unmatched. Michael Hillman made our meals here so special and memorable. He remembers EVERYTHING and anticipates EVERYTHING. What a gem. And Ravin in the bar was equally excellent. So kind, fun and attentive. What's not to love about this place?? Cannot wait to return.
Definitely a foodie place. The food was delicious. Mixed views on server. I would go back!
I love this restaurant when I can get a window seat. The interior dining area has horrible acoustics and it’s tough too have a conversation. Great food!
Incredible food and great service. It’s been several years since I last dined here, and since then they earned their first Michelin Star. I can say they truly deserve it. Exceptional meal - but not stuffy. We will be back
Good for groups. Nice dinner. Duck dish was great.
Great spot in lounge area.
Everything is always great here. Wait staff was great and responsive, and the food was amazing
Food and service were wonderful! Great place for special occasions!
The server was extremely gracious, accommodating and professional. The food was very well prepared if not adventurous for a weekday businessman’s breakfast. I am looking forward to returning for a weekend brunch or dinner.
It's my favourite restaurant in DC. It's always a unique take on simple food that lets the perflectly selected and blended ingredients speak for themselves
Stellar Food, Exemplary Service! The table we had was not as intimate as I would have liked. However, once the bread service and the first course started.....We did not even notice. The service was simply wonderful. The food is inventive and accessible. Every single item was perfectly seasoned and perfectly prepared. This restaurant deserves to get the other two stars...
We were so excited to get a reservation. The staff were very accommodating to my kids. Three of the adults had birthdays and were given menus that said "Happy Birthday." It was a fun touch!
Excellent food in a relaxed environment and very good and reasonably priced wine by the glass too this place deserves its accoladesFor us only negatives were the wooden chairs and the acoustics- all those hard surfaces not helpful with the diminution in hearing that comes after 40 ish
Food was amazing.
We sat outside for lunch, so noise was irrelevant/not an issue. Service was just okay - had to ask for cutlery, twice. Waited over 30 mins between finishing first course, and lunch arriving - extremely slow service.
Room temperature water outside; this is in summertime: can appreciate this inside, but not on the patio. Lets go the extra mile and use ice, although completely understand the trend.
Had the reuben (amazing), scallops, ( amazing), hamachi, and crabcakes.
Celebrated anniversary, restaurant did nothing to note this, which is fine.
Will be back soon
Food was exemplary! Service was fantastic. Noise levels were higher than I expected. Perhaps I’m just old school and expect a calm dining experience. Overall though pretty great!
Couldn’t eat scramble eggs. Loaded with egg shells.
Ask for a cup of ice. 20 mins later I get a bowl of ice.
Asked for OJ after stopping ANYONE that worked there since my waiter must have been having breakfast too.
Food was decient but portions were small for the prices. A lot of hard surfaces made it loud and rather difficult to converse. Had a reservation and arrived on time, but had to wait 15 minutes for a table.
The service and food are fantastic, the ambience is a bit marred by the acoustics, in that it is difficult to hear your dining companions as it is so loud. A little bit of carpeting might help.
This is our go-to place for birthdays and celebrations. The food is always innovative without being weird, and the service is friendly (but not over-friendly--just right) and prompt. We had the tomato salad (I could gorge on that alone, along with the delicious bread) and my companion had an interesting green salad, the halibut and a vegetarian pot pie, along with some nice wine sold by the glass. Too stuffed for dessert. And I love the environment with all the Thomas Moser furniture!
The food was quite good. It honestly fell just short of what I have come to expect from a Michelin star restaurant, but it was a very good meal.
Our particular service staff (waiter), lacked a good table side manner - all service and table setting was done “close handed” - very subpar for this caliber restaurant. He also went on entirely too long during unsolicited recommendations. He very ceremoniously managed to recommend the most expensive menu item in each category - surprise, surprise.
Amazing dinner! Wonderful food - best duck I’ve ever had. Server was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and really recommended phenomenal dishes. They even included a complimentary desert wine for our anniversary. I highly recommend!
Blue Duck Tavern even exceeded itself. The service was exquisite and the duck was extraordinary (duh!). A lovely evening.
Great food, average service, prices high.
