We were extremely disappointed in our experience at Blue Duck Tavern. We were celebrating a special birthday and did not want to dampen the mood by complaining, but our server was very careless and inattentive. She did not bring wine that was ordered until after we had finished our meal, our food and the coffee were cold, and she splashed coffee on my shirt and spilled water on our table. A very expensive and disappointing experience.
Reservations for brunch—we arrived 10-15 minutes early, no one to welcome guests. Once we were greeted, the person said “you can sit in the rocking chairs or go to the bar.” Would ha e been nice to be greeted and welcomed. We waited about 15 minutes, seated, and ignored. Once we received water and ordered drinks and appetizers, waited quite some time. The waitress was hard to hear, the noise level was high, she had to repeat herself several times. Food took an extraordinary long time before arriving. No follow up on how things were going. Not the best experience from a highly rated restaurant.
Shame to see this place slip, service is mechanical. No warmth.
This was a wonderful culinary experience. Expensive but well worth the price. Food was amazing! The choices were a bit bizarre, but imaginative. Everything was very fresh, well prepared, and delicious. Some of our choices included short ribs, seared sturgeon, and charcuterie to start. The Brussel sprouts were out of this world yummy! Service was impeccable from start to finish. The wine selection was superb by the bottle of the glass. This is a restaurant experience worth repeating on any occasion or celebration. Every aspect of the presentations and preparations were thoughtful and exquisite.
Service was outstanding. Food was cooked perfectly. Wine pairings were spot on.
Breakfast at the BlueDuck for Martin Luther King Day for the family was wonderful. Great service and food.
Everything was fantastic! Our service was excellent! Our beverages were memorable. The food was delicious and nicely presented. Could not ask for more!
Had higher expectations for the food especially what they were charging per dish
One of favorite meals. Best duck in DC, seriously
Fantastic high end dining experience. Great food and ambiance. Highly recommend.
So the mighty has fallen. When in town over the last five years Blue Duck was a must dine destination. We noticed the decline beginning last year thought it was just a fluke. Today’s brunch confirmed the party is over. We had eggs Benedict with pork belly , hollandaise and pickled vegetables on a piece of French bread. Supposed to be evocative of a bon mi sandwich. Unfortunately It was served barely warm and the vegetables were too lightly pickled so they did not serve their intended purpose of balancing the richness of the pork belly. By the way serving barely warmed pork belly is a sin as it’s unctuous nature turns greasy when served at just past room temperature. Completely uninspiring. Also had the fried chicken thigh on a waffle with a sorghum syrup. The syrup had no flavor. I asked for some maple syrup to try to rescue the dish. Again the waffle was obviously pre-made and not warm. The chicken was barely warmed. Served with same pickled carrots as the previous dish. Odd taste to carrots slightly musty. A poor rendition of the dish. We had a bagel that was fine. The coffee was meh. At this price point I expect freshly made food served hot and with skillful preparation. They missed on all points. All in all not an $80 dollar breakfast value. I am sorry to say take the Blue Duck off your list DC has plenty of other options that will do you better :(
Manager Kyle Cho was very nice and everything was good overall
I sent my parents here for their 50th wedding anniversary. The restaurant and staff couldn't have been better -- from the menus saying happy anniversary, to the champagne toast, to the wonderful waiter, and the fabulous food. Nailed it!
Very good as usual. Duck was a bit overcooked, which was a disappointing surprise given the otherwise extremely high standard here.
Good food.... excellent service - this is very close to my office so it is a great lunch option - you can get in and out in an hour
Anniversary - great experience!
Wonderful space, delicious food, and fabulous furniture by Thomas Moser. Highly recommend
I have eaten lunch here many times having a salad and side of chicken.. always very good. This time I ordered the short ribs... I cannot believe that the waiter didnt tell me that it comes with ABSOLUTELY NOTHING... out comes an empty plate and a pan with a slab of short ribs and nothing else!
consider yourself warned.
Excellent service and food
The food was amazing. We really enjoyed the unique combinations of flavors paired with everyday items, like pasta and chicken. We also enjoyed the unique whimsical take of various dishes.
Service was impeccable. Also the atmosphere was that of one of the highest end restaurants.
We highly recommend and can’t wait to go back.
Food was delicious, and the service was outstanding! I’d highly recommend it! Cheers and enjoy!!
Always phenomenal. Superb service. Jeremy is the man. Food is always above and beyond superb. Always enjoy coming in.
Delightful presentations of wonderful food; exceptional service by all staff - would definitely return
Family was in town staying nearby wanted to bring him to one my favorite places in DC.
Great experience. The waiter was very attentive. We were so full, and didn’t want dessert but were intrigued by the guava and kefir sorbet, so he brought us a small taster.
Delicious food. Nothing will disappoint. The duck was amazing.
My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time here. Our server Andria was truly outstanding! We will definitely be returning.
Great food and atmosphere! The sides were a little overpriced, but maybe that’s standard for DC. I would definitely go back!
Michael was an excellent server! My sweetie and I really enjoyed the Brussel sprouts, short ribs and duck.
We wanted a special meal for my sister-in-law who was in town visiting. Blue Duck delivered in every way!
Excellent dinner, server did an incredible job. His suggestions were all great and we enjoyed way too much! We will definitely be back.
Everything GREAT, after all these years no decline
Went for the $175 per person New Years Eve fixed menu. Food was terrible. Everything from the 1st through main courses were over salted to the point where we did not finish our plates. Waste of money. Never going back. Couldn’t recommend less.
I went there for my birthday! The service was excellent! I like the menu has Happy Birthday on it. I got the garden salad, Duck and Brussels Sprouts. It was excellent! Definitely will go back again!
I was expecting better service. For instance - when we entered with a reservation, no one asked to take our coats, however- the party in front of us were offered that service. The duck was overcooked/dry
Everything was delicious! I heard they had a great tea menu but when I asked for tea, the waiter just asked me if I wanted "black, green, chamomile, or mint." Later when my friend asked for the tea menu during dessert, he brought it over and we found that they had WAY more than what he previously offered me. Just wish I had that option at the beginning of my meal.
This is not my first time eating here, but it is probably my last; while the food is consistently very good, at the end of the night the service insults me. I understand why they are no longer a Michelin star restaurant with this sort of service thinking. If the services is going to be as insulting as Red Lobster they should probably lower their prices to be more inline with Red Lobster.
Celebrated a father/son birthday dinner at Blue Duck Tavern. Very good food and service.
