Blue Duck Tavern
The restaurant has an elegant residential feel through the open staff pantry and kitchen, wood-burning oven and the showpiece Molteni range.
*Please note that for diners bringing in wine, a $35 corkage fee (per 750 ml bottle of wine), with a limit of two bottles, will be charged.

The prices for the rather simple food and casual ambience were very high. While everyone was polite the noise level was too high giving the effect of sitting in someone’s busy kitchen. I will not be returning as the value/experience trade off was poor
It's not that great for breakfast: has that expensive-hotel-food thing going on.
We brought a friend in from out of town. We were really looking forward to showing him the best of what DC cuisine has to offer but fell vastly short of that goal. A few specifics from our experience:
Buckwheat cavatelli was unbearably salty; chicken biscuits were very dry and the chicken had an odd chewy texture; crab cakes were bland; the presentation of the foie gras mousse was attractive, but the fat coating the mousse was not appetizing.
BDT has been one of our favorite restaurants for years. We live in the neighborhood and it is so nice to drop by and enjoy meals here. When it lost a Michelin star this year we were in disbelief but now we understand why. Unfortunately I do not see us going back anytime in the foreseeable future. There are too many good restaurants in DC these days to justify dining out and receiving a lackluster experience like the one we had.
Took them 20 minutes to send a server to our table... and food was too salty... but okay vibes... pricey for what its worth
Poor front of house, okay food, significant decline from a few years ago
Wonderful experience for our son’s birthday. Great food, attentive service resulted in a memorable evening.
I loved this place, super nice. Food was really great 😊 and our server was super helpful and nice.
I was hosting my son and his fiancé It was her first visit but my family lives nearby and we’ve come many times for both brunch and dinner. This was my first bad experience and it all centered on my main course which was practically inedible.
I ordered the NY Strip and only ate one or two slices figuring I’d take the leftover home which I did. The steak was so grizzled and fatty that it was quite an effort just to slice it.
I didn’t return it during the dinner ad I was so engaged in our delightful table conversation, but the kitchen should be ashamed for serving it and you should keep a closer eye on this vendor.
Didn't realize the restaurant was inside of a hotel, but the hotel staff were friendly enough to escort us to the check in area for the restaurant. The ambiance is nice but not over the top and the kitchen is completely open, so that provides a lot of entertainment as well. Food was top notch. Bone marrow seems to be the choice here for apps, and it was great, but I have had better at Trummer's in Clifton. The Duck and the braised short-rib were off the charts good and my wife and I both loved them. They even came out with a cool little dessert with Happy Anniversary written on the plate. Would definitely recommend to others.
Not as spectacular as we expected, and the space is chilly (atmospherically and literally).
We’ve been to Blue Duck a number of times over the years. The restaurant is lovely and we started with two great glasses of wine. A good start. The downside...Our appetizers arrived with our meal. Our steaks were very fatty and bland. We enjoyed the crab cakes. For the $36 price at lunch, we expected that a side would accompany. Had we not ordered appetizers, we would have left hungry. Our waiter, though helpful, kind when present, too often had to be flagged down and was not particularly intuitive.
I hope this visit was just a one-time fail because generally Blue Duck is a lively and fun restaurant.
It was noisier than I remember in the past. As a developer myself I would look into possible solutions to reduce the noise level.
I’ve had fresh duck in Wisconsin 35 years ago w a raspberry sauce that I have lived forever. This duck was different but everlasting.
We sat in the lounge area for a drink and app prior to dinner. Very nice bar/lounge area and service was great.
Dinner was ok. Very little ambiance, loud and just wooden tables/chairs that are rather uncomfortable. The food was fair, my husband had short ribs and I had the veggie pot pie. For the price and atmosphere, I would dine elsewhere next time.
Superior in quality and service. Easily one of the best dining experiences in DC. A wonderful wine list, high-quality food preparation. My favorite place in the city.
BDT lost their Michelin Star, which means different things to different people. They still have good food, but we had thought it had been slipping before. Seems like some dishes just reflect too much thought. Example - the hay smoked oysters were beautifully presented and big, plump oysters with just too much spice and garnish. Duck is always great. Wine list is good but expensive.
Blue Duck is our go to brunch for Kennedy Center matinees and they never disappoint! We always have the bone marrow appetizer and are always pleased by the endless variations in toppings. Banh mi style pork belly Benedict was an incredibly clever fusion.
Too loud for my taste, and weird floor plan. But, food and service are superb. Filling portions. You pay for the high-rent location. Third time my wife and I have dined here; our visiting friends from NYC loved it. We will be back.
I recently had a mother / daughter dinner here on Friday night (11/1) and everything was lovely! Our server (high ponytail / brunette) was such a gem and she assisted with an excellent wine selection all the way through to the apple pie for two! The chicken dish was delicious.. so glad my mom ordered that as I ate half of it : )
I look forward to returning. Thanks!
Used to love this restaurant. Friday the food, service, and entire experience, was mediocre.
Don’t mind paying these prices when it is worth it, but this time - definitely resented the bill.
Bday they are very nice.
I have been coming to this restaurant for year. So many I can't remember how long, probably from when it opened. I've stayed at the hotel for at least the past 15 years. None the less, I have had the sad experience of seeing this restaurant slowly fall from when it once was a great restaurant. It has completely lost its perspective of a Mitch-Award restaurant and suspect they may loose it. The restaurant at best is a B rated place to visit and should try to live up to the other standards. This trip, half the duck was over cooked. The wine was bad and didn't touch it. The truffles on the pot pie was tasteless. The wait staff was nice but really didn't want to over extend himself on a "one person" table. I truly hate when that feeling is transferred from the staff to the customer. All in all, if you are hungry, it is late...then eat there. There really isn't any other reason to do so. There are a lot of nice places in DC. FYI, I was shocked that I could get an opentable reservation within 10 mins of me coming in. When it was a great place you could never get in. Hours to wait. Not any more. I think the word is out. Sorry guys. You have some work to do. Hop to it. Change the quality. Change the staff attitude. Change a lot things.
Give them back their star! Every meal I have had there has been stellar. That's all I have to say.
Blue Duck Tavern never disappoints! Another great meal with even better service (Lewis). We ordered the harvest salad, duck legs, crab cakes, brussel sprouts, and horsradish mashed potatoes. My visiting family enjoyed the variety of cocktails and local beers on the menu. The duck was so rich in flavor and confit cooking technique kept the meat juicy and tender. It will be difficult to not order it the next time. From seating to finish, BDT's atmosphere and service make it one of our favorite restaurants!
I've dined at BDT many times previously and always found it to be great. This was an unbelievably unsatisfying meal -- a celebration for my 70th birthday. I had the Fois Gras appetizer, which was tasteless. I also shared the duck family meal, which was mostly duck fat not meat. The sausage portion of the dish was seasoned so I simply disliked it. None of the desserts were appealing so we went elsewhere. Sorry to have to say this, but you asked.
Duck was not cooked well
What happened ? this is your signature dish
Breast was not crispy on outside
Need to practice
Breakfast on a random Friday. Service excellent
Outstanding in every way. I understand why the got a Michelin Star. Try it - worth it!!
It was okay. Service was slow. Food was all a bit heavy. I was here a few years back and had a much better experience. Meh.
Lovely atmosphere, great service, delicious meal.
I found little on the menu that appealed to me on this trip, and the meat was tough. Still, an enjoyable experience in an inviting ambiance.
Never fails. The food is absolutely great. This is the second time I had the oysters in smoked hay. That is a great dish, great conversation piece. Strongly recommend. The local mushroom medley with a poached egg also delightful. We had cocktails through dinner - they make a great old fashioned which is not too sweet.
It was awesome! Excellent food and service.
My wife and I were excited to have dinner at Blue Duck Tavern while in DC for a work conference. The appetizers were great. The entrees were overcooked and just not what we hoped to experience for such a revered restaurant. The restaurant seemed to be content with its Michelin Star while resting on its laurels. Next time I am in DC I will pass. Dinner for two at 350 was not worthwhile.
This was my second time dining at blue duck and it did not disappoint. We were there for brunch on Saturday and it was tremendous
The service here was terrible! Upon entering the restaurant for my reservation on the evening of the 10/18/19, the hostess could not hear my name over the noise so I pointed to my name on her list on her iPad. At this time a second hostess came over and interrupted our interaction and in fact raised her voice asking for my name. It was completely uncalled for as she had just arrived and her interaction with myself tainted the entire evening for us.
On arrival to our table, we noticed it was still littered with crumbs and food left over from the previous seating. The hostess cleaned up a little bit of it but she did not notice all of it. While none of the other waitstaff raised their voice to us only some were friendly.
The food was average and certainly the issues mentioned above would have influenced our experience this evening.
I will never return to this establishment and will recommend against anyone else visiting the same.
Food was great as always and I go expecting expertly prepared hearty food. But some lighter choices would be welcome.
Overall food was great, service was sub par for this sort of place (friendly but not very experienced seeming).
Last night of vacation with my sister and brother in law. Great way to end a fun week.
