Blue Door Kitchen & Garden Ratings and Reviews
Great place for a date. The environment is comfortable and well appointed. The space is small but doesn't feel cramped. Service is attentive and friendly. Although this is comfort food, it is not heavy. The NY strip steak is a generous entree but the meat is not dense. The duck entree was small by comparison yet very tasty. Mac and cheese is a must!
Service was good - intentions great but missing a few key items
1- ask how I’d like my salmon prepared or indicate typical preparation
2 - ask for clarity on an order versus assumption
3- when replacing an item in a dish letting me know prior to assuming I️ can eat the replacement
Overall will go back - maybe just spotty due to mid week lunch crew.
Great flavors overall and solid menu options.
The restaurant is beautiful and the waitstaff does well. The food however was less than ordinary. Their was nothing special about their buttermilk fried chicken which is a specialty. I personally enjoy Popeyes Fried Chicken and would take PFC over their $25 BFC any day. Plus the spoonful of mashed potatoes was just a trial. Their Short Rib dish was an overload of gooey saltness, the rice it came with was just the same. The drinks were okay. We dined here to celebrate our anniversary and felt only disappointment in regards to our goal of satisfying and exciting our taste buds. Extremely pricey for their execution of food and drinks.
One of us had the fried chicken Benedict. It was tasty, everything else that was supposed to be hot was except the chicken was cold . The manager stopped by the table to see how we were enjoying our food and we let her know about the chicken. My friend did not want to make a big deal about it and told her not to replace the food as she had offered. Literally, less than 2 minutes later she delivered a new plate of food. That was awesome EXCEPT the chicken was cold on that one too-my friend said it was colder than the first one. We asked our server if that was how it was supposed to be served but he said he wasn’t sure and said he would ask the kitchen. When he returned he told us that the item had been removed from our bill which was appreciated especially since my friend only ate a portion of the meal ....by the way we never found out if that was how it was intended to be served.
The manager was very attentive and accommodating and because of this we will try Blue Door Kitchen again.
Went here when the restaurant was called Table 52. It was outstanding. This visit left something to be desired. Had the shrimp and grits- grits had very little flavor compared to when I had them a few years ago. The food was still good quality, but no longer stellar.
Gorgeous spot. A gem in a cute neighborhood with lots to see in the area. A cool little cigar spot on the corner (Briggs Mansion). Its quaint and intimate but not stuffy. The food was fabulous. The bar was great. Nice season drinks but open bar available. Great farm to table menu and they were generous to provide a nice hummus special entree on the house.
Such a find this little spot. Service was impeccable and down to earth, yet classy.
The decor was great down to the small details. LOVE it!
Service was very rushed. We arrived early for a 5:30 reservation on a Sunday night and the server rushed us to the point that it got annoying. In spite of telling the server that we wanted a few minutes to visit and enjoy our drink, he came over three times asking if we were ready to order. No consciousness at all of interrupting conversation either. In fact, our entree plates were removed before we had put down our forks on the last bite. They had us out the door by 6:45. I understand that a diner that is seated at 5:30 should expect to turn the table over for a later seating, I don't expect to spend $30 for an entree and $16 for a glass of wine and get whisked out the door in the time it takes to eat dinner at Chipotle. I did not have this experience the last time I was there.
We shared the fried chicken as an appetizer and that was great! We each had a main course that was just average (short rib and burger). Wouldn't say it was bad, but would not order again. The service was great and it was quiet enough to have a conversation. We would go again in the warmer months to enjoy the outdoor patio.
Despite it being noisy, they
immediately turned down the music when requested. But it is a charming place, love their patio
Lovely server. Had to request salt
as none of us prefer egg with no salt
and egg cooled before salt in dish to share arrived, sparse for all four of us
Good food! We had fried chicken and the shrimp and grits. Both were excellent and the portion was much more than we could eat. Great for the next day!
This is a great stop for a small, lively atmosphere for dinner right near shopping, hotels, bars. But make a reservation!
What a find for us. Comfortable and casual but very professional staff and amazing food. Our server was the perfect balance of friendly, professional and attentive without being intrusive. We had the butternut squash soup and pierogi as starters. Both very tasty, fresh and appropriate portions. We each ordered the fried chicken - oh my it was perfect. It came w local honey and house made hot sauce using a bit of both made the perfect balance. We shared the bubble & squeak and Mac & cheese sides. We had plenty of food and took a couple pieces of chicken to go. Highly recommend this spot
Great food and service!!!! Loved strawberry rhubarb mimosas and glazed porkbelly as well as beignets. Surprised with 4 pieces chicken with waffles...for brunch. Only minute negative was wind coming in when patrons entered. Could be larger to get true entryway and block wind.
Food was fine, ambiance was fine, and overall nothing special. A lot older crowd than I excpected. We were by far the youngest group there at 8pm and we're in our 30's. I think we were sat in a bad spot, right by the door, so the ambiance was not much for us. No one disliked their meal, or the service, but no one in our group would return.
We had a great experience. Appetizers for our group was the ceviche, perogies, and corn chowder...all excellent. Mains were duck (excellent), buttermilk fried chicken (an enormous serving...too big, really), and the short rib (a bit tougher than expected). The hummingbird cake and chocolate pecan pie were amazing. Service was excellent. One main complaint was that we absolutely froze anytime the door opened. We had the ask the hostess to bring us our scarves and shawls from the coat check to wear while we ate. They really should fix that issue. There is nothing to keep the wind for blowing into the whole restaurant when the door is open.
A few problems this evening: Devilled eggs with little flavour, burger and pork dishes over cooked, inconsistent service, smoke from kitchen throughout the restaurant. Good points: nice room, tasty hummus, nice salads and delicious hummingbird cake. But salads came with main course instead of first course. Manager comped salads...which we appreciated. All in all a mixed bag.
Food served was cold, unappetizing and tasteless. Service was pushy. Too expensive when one leaves half the meal because of quality and not because of appetite. We normally do not order desserts but did so because we remained hungry. We should have returned individual dishes but it was a special birthday celebration and did not want to completely ruin the evening.
We definitely enjoyed our time! Food was delicious and the atmosphere was terrific! Several in the party ordering Bloody Marys and were extremely underwhelmed with them -- said they tasted like clam-juice//watery...our server exchanged them no problem, but the guests found them to be strange for a Blood Mary. All in all, we had a great meal.
Fried chicken was average at best Hamburger was the worst ever. Like shoe leather cold cheese on it. Soup was good Took a while to get service at the table. Had a problem changing reservation from 5 people to 6 on Thursday Called on Friday and it was no problem suddenly Refuse to go back
Not a good experience
Our waiter, Oscar, was great...very attentive and very pleasant. Thank You Oscar!
We looooved the music selection-great picks!
I would like to see a chocolate cake on the dessert menu, similar tasting to the one that was offered at Table 52. I disappointed that chocolate cake was no longer available.
We had a delicious meal at Blue Door Kitchen. We tried short ribs, salmon, pork and fried chicken....all wonderful! Our cocktails were creative and reflected the fresh, farm-to-table vibe of the restaurant. Very welcoming staff, including our waitress, the bartender and the manager, Brendan. I will definitely come back to Blue Door Kitchen on my next trip to Chicago.
