While visiting, be sure to enjoy one of Blue Door Kitchen’s garden-to-glass cocktails, local beers or perfectly paired wines from our extensive list.
Food was very good. Especially the fried chicken which is their specialty. The only thing is it came with mashed potatoes and there were not many. They could have given more instead of a light covering on the plate.
Nothing at Blue Door Kitchen was terrible, but also nothing was great. We had the crab cake which was well executed, but $16 for a single crab cake is a little bit ridiculous. I had the short rib and my partner had the shrimp and grits. The short rib was begging for some sort of pan sauce or au jus and the shrimp and grits was lacking a tang or garnish for how rich and soft it was. Additionally the shrimp was overcooked. Each of us had two cocktails. Two were excellent and two were so-so. I think for how simple and classic the food is at Blue Door Kitchen, there is absolutely no room for mediocre execution.
The place is beautiful. The food was delicious. The room was a little loud at the end, BUT, it was a large party and they were enjoying themselves. Would have loved to have met Art Smith, he was ding there that night!
Great Brunch spot
We all had the fried chicken eggs Benedict and everyone liked their meal. This was comfort food at its best with attentive service and great ambiance.
This is a great place to eat! The food was so full of flavor, and tasted amazing! Definitely recommend the fried chicken!
So cute and just a really warm feeling. Our waiter was great. The cocktails were great. Small menu witch was fine. I found it odd that there was fried chicken on the menu but noticed a lot of it being served so as we were getting up to leave so was the couple next to us & my friend asked about the fried chicken and they said it was a local favorite and that people come back for it often, I will definitely come back to try it.
I noted that we were celebrating a special occasion on the reservation. I arrived first and told the the hostess that we were celebrating my sister’s birthday. When my sister walked in, i was sitting next to the hostess at the bar and pointed out that this was the birthday girl. I gave her a big hug and said happy birthday. My sister and I have celebrated each other’s birthdays at Blue Door a few times and the restaurant staff has always done something to acknowledge the special day. But last weekend, no one even said happy birthday to my sister. That was disappointing.
They were so accommodating. My friend was cold sitting by the door and they moved us right away even though it was a pretty bus Saturday night. The salmon and beet salad was delicious. I am definitely going back to try some of the creative cocktails.
The eggs, sausage and biscuits were all excellent...fresh and delicious. It was a memorable meal and we’ll be back.
Went for a friends birthday and our waiter was very patient and helpful. The food was very good and it was a great experience.
Loved the food and ambiance! Our server was very nice. Bar expensive given the pour.
We had a wonderful night at the Blue Door Kitchen and Garden for my wife’s birthday. The restaurant is very cozy and welcoming. Our meals were excellent and the cocktails were delicious. I would recommend this restaurant, especially if you are celebrating a special occasion.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. Would definitely recommend to anyone who likes Southern cooking.
Nice place in busy neighborhood. Good comfort food and lovely service!
Amazing food and great service. Definitely recommend.
I like this place for a nice dinner where you can hear your own conversations. Food is consistently good and so is the service. Cute, quaint and a charming garden for the warmer months.
Good wine selection and some healthy brunch entrees.
One of the best Sunday Brunches. Highly recommend
It was my fiancé and I’s first time trying this restaurant and it was AMAZING!! The food tasted so fresh and it was cooked to perfection.
Food was spotty. Some dishes good others not so much. Pretty place. Service fair.
Quaint place with an incredible vibe and menu. Drinks are delicious and staff is friendly
The food was good, but really rich and heavy.
I am vegetarian. While the menu on website had a vegetarian option, the actual menu the night we went had no vegetarian entree.
Great meal. Great service . I’ll be back!
Walked by this place a million times, glad I finally went in. Very cosy and cute, feels like you’re in a lovely southern kitchen. Chicken and waffles was nothing too fancy, but oh man the chicken was delicious. It’s truly authentic buttermilk, southern fried chicken. Waffles were a great consistency, crispy and fluffy combo. We also got the frittata (just okay - a bit dry) and cornbread (very good). Cocktails were lovely, nothing out of this world though.
All in all, would definitely go again. Service and ambiance was the cherry on top. Want to try their dinner, but it looks a bit pricey. we may just stick with their (reasonably priced) brunch.
I've gone twice now and it's absolutely lovely! It's energetic and classy, with tasteful foods (literally not one bad menu item!). Would recommend over and over again.
Great southern comfort food. Good vibes and service
The decor at the blue door is adorable and upscale. Our service was great and the food was just as you would expect. No detail was too small to be overlooked. We ordered the devil eggs (yum), the waffle with apple butter and the fried chicken Benedict. We would definitely go back!
Great service. Good food
Fantastic food and atmosphere - our three kids shocked us by each eating their entire burger (a double decker at that!)
I was looking for a quiet place to take my father who was visiting Chicago--Not only was Blue Door quiet, it was an unforgettable dining experience. From start to finish, each plate revealed an attentiveness to detail that was delightful. Chef Art Smith is sharing his heart and home in abundance with every dish he carefully develops. Bravo!
Food was great.. wonderful and charming atmosphere. Only compliant was service was slow, but they were very apologetic. One waiter and he did not see us at first when we were seated. I am sure it was just an oversight and not the norm. We will definitely go back on future trips to Chicago.
The mere was valet parking for $15 but there were was also parking along the street, $8 for two hours. The ambiance was warm and inviting, like the southern living. Both inside and outside seating was available. Service was quick. The menu was a little different from online but it didn’t impact my experience. I had a one the most delicious crab cakes I’ve had for an appetizer. It was perfectly seasoned with crab forward, not weighed down with breading and it came out rather quickly. For my entree I ordered Art’s famous buttermilk fried chicken and it delivered as promised. The crispy skin and juicy meat (three pieces) were both appropriately seasoned. The potatoes were a good accompany. I also ordered macaroni and cheese, which was good but I prefer a milder cheese than cheddar, though my dinner guest raved about it and cornbread that was excellent. The cornbread obviously had been prepared in a cast iron skillet evidenced by its crispy crust. It was served with homemade butter, almonds and blackberries. My colleague ordered the pork shoulder with with collard greens. She was stepping out of her comfort zone, as I being from the south often tease her for lack of knowledge of greens. Her excitement about her meal grew with each bite. The pork was juicy and the greens seasoned with pork. That coupled with the great choice of music playing lowly and the southern decor had her loving her experience.
As always, delicious brunch. I always bring out of towners here and we always have a great experience.
Charming location. Outdoor garden is lovely. Food was good but very slow service and 2 of 4 meals were lukewarm.
Service was poor. Dessert never came after it was ordered; had to go seek out the wait staff to get the check so we would not miss our theater time.
Bees in auto area.
We had a great brunch sitting in the patio. It was a little chilly but they had ample space heaters so it was lovely. Our server Tim was attentive and gave us great service. He had great recommendations and answered all our questions we had about the menu. We brought our two small kids and sitting in the outside patio was perfect for them. The fried chicken and waffles were so good and the rosemary maple syrup is extra sticky and so delicious.
Love this place! Food is great and outdoor space is superb! Service is always impeccable @
Blue Door Kitchen and Garden was recommended to me but we were disappointed. We got one beverage (a water and a soda) and no refills came. The soda was asked for a refill specifically when our food came and that was additional (even though these were small glasses) and a refill on water never came. Food was delicious and the place is cute, but everything else was sub-par.
