About Blue Crab Grill
Blue Crab Grill in Newark, Delaware is known for offering a giant menu filled with seafood options. Though much of it is seasonal, you can always count on some items at Blue Crab Grill. For example, there is the steak and cake. You get a grilled beef tenderloin and jumbo lump crab cakes.
Another standby at Blue Crab Grill is the surf and turf. This includes a five-ounce beef tenderloin steak and a five-ounce lobster tail that is served stuffed with crab imperial. The crazy jambalaya is very popular as well. It comes with crab legs, crawfish, clams, mussels, scallops, chicken, shrimp and andouille sausage.

Blue Crab Grill Ratings and Reviews
My friends and I routinely enjoy dinner here before we go to a REP play at the University of Delaware. We have had this tradition for years and consider it part of our play night experience. The food is always great, service is warm and friendly, and the environment is conducive for conversation.
A very nice, friendly restaurant. The staff are great, very attentive without hovering. I had the hummus appetizer, the snapper turtle soup (nicely spiced without overwhelming the delicate flavor of the turtle), and the fried seafood dinner. Everything was good. The "garlic" bread was delicious, as bread, but the garlic aspect might as well not have been added (it was all but impossible to taste it). Their dessert menu is nicely diverse. I'm definitely coming back.
Went for dinner with friends and had a terrible experience. The service was horrible. After our food was delivered by someone else, our server disappeared and when we finally found her there was no apology just a smirk. Our dishes were not cleared, water was not refilled, we had to beg for drink refills and the dessert menu. Our meal took forever because she obviously didn't care. The food was average at best and very expensive for what we got. Never again.
We are long time customers at this restaurant. The last time we were there, I didn't care for the shrimp and grits. The server was not happy with me, and begrudgingly brought me a different meal, which I was happy with. This night I asked for risotto, as I had seen mushroom risotto on the menu. They came out with many vegetables and a very strong provolone oder. I mentioned that I thought I was getting mushroom risotto. He took them away and brought out mushroom risotto. Again a strong provolone smell. I didn't like the taste, but just didn't eat them, not asking for a replacement. The woman who served us before came over to our table and told us we we're complainers and told us not to come back!!!! We have eaten at this restaurant 50 times!!! I will never go back. I wonder how many other people she has driven away?
Food was good. Service started out good, but as the meal progressed the waitress's service diminished. The waitress said she would looked for another Crab claw cracker for us, she didn't come back to indicate whether she found one or not. I had to ask her again as she passed our table. She said that she would bring another water, napkin and hand wipes. Well, she didn't and I had to ask for the hand wipes again.
Normally, we have a very positive experience here. Maybe because it was a special occasion, I had higher expectations. I wanted lobster tails. The only thing they would offer me was two stuffed 5 oz tails for $45. I passed. I just wanted the tails, not the stuffing. I chose the shrimp and grits. The description seemed like they would be good. However, when they came out they were covered with some brown sauce filled with celery, which I don't like. My husband had finished before anyone came to check. The first time they checked, I had not taken a bite. So, I brought home a crabcake. I took a bite, and it had a shell in it, so I just didn't have a good night. On a higher note, the wine was good!!!
I have never written a negative restaurant review before, but our experience the other night was so disappointing that I have to share. We have eaten at the Blue Crab Grill every time we travel through the area several times a year. Saturday night after we were seated we recieved no attention fron the wait staff until we had been there a half an hour and We had asked the hostess twice for service. . We were told the computers were down so they could not put orders in. There were diners at no more than 10 tables. Couldn't they write things down? We were told we could order appetizers and wine. My soup arrived, and I was told to be careful it was very hot. It was barely warm. My husband enjoyed his oysters, but would have preferred a glass of wine with them. We had to ask twice more for our wine before it was served. Also, no bread was placed on the table until we requested that several times. This all went on while our waiter sat at one of the tables with other diners. After an one and a half hours we got our entrees, they were so so. Clearly, we will not be dining there again.
The service and food was fantastic. Our waiter was very attentive by frequently checking in to see if we needed anything and to refill our beverages (in a way that never felt like he was intrusive). I absolutely loved the seafood salad, which was very ample. Everything we ordered was fresh and definitely made to order.
As always, we had a wonderful meal at the Blue Crab Grill. The Blue Crab's calamari appetizer is by far the best we have ever eaten. Always crisp, hot and not over cooked. The chipotle dipping sauce is fantastic. We also ordered the halibut and cobia fish specials and they were wonderful as well. We don't usually order dessert but we got the Smith Island Coconut cake to go. Wow, so glad we took it home for later. The Blue Crab Grill is always a good choice with a variety of meal options that are not seafood. My husband and son love the smoked ribs too! Other favorite choices are the Crab Nachos, Seafood Chef Salad and the Linguini with White Clam Sauce. We are lucky to live close by!
Enjoyed our first time at Blue Crab Grill. Appetizers were good, as were the drunken crab legs. Fish was so overcooked that I had to cut it with a knife. Totally not a good thing for fish. I suspect whether you like the food or not depends on what you order.
