Blue Crab Grill
Blue Crab Grill in Newark, Delaware is known for offering a giant menu filled with seafood options. Though much of it is seasonal, you can always count on some items at Blue Crab Grill. For example, there is the steak and cake. You get a grilled beef tenderloin and jumbo lump crab cakes.
Another standby at Blue Crab Grill is the surf and turf. This includes a five-ounce beef tenderloin steak and a five-ounce lobster tail that is served stuffed with crab imperial. The crazy jambalaya is very popular as well. It comes with crab legs, crawfish, clams, mussels, scallops, chicken, shrimp and andouille sausage.
Had reservations for 7:15. Waited 20-30min for a table. Then waited a good 45 minutes for our soups and appetizer to come out. They said their kitchen was backed up. Soup was ok, needed more seasoning but wasn’t terrible. The bread was stale and chewy, like it was days old and warmed in the microwave. One of us ordered a chicken parmigiana dish, it had no mozzarella on it at all. When questioning the waitress she said “it’s mixed in”. It was chicken with sauce and noodles, I guess the cheese melted and evaporated. My wife and I got the brown butter scallops with risotto. It was soupy, and the scallops were gummy. My 4 year old ordered a cheese quesadilla and fries. It came out as a chicken quesadilla, and the fries didn’t come out until we were getting ready to leave. (They did comp us the fries). Would not return, seems like they are lacking a kitchen manager, or any manager for that matter.
The food was GREAT. I had the drunken crab legs and creme brûlée for dessert and everything was delicious. Blue Crab Grill is quickly becoming my favorite restaurant.
This was our 3rd visit to Blue Crab Grill at my wife’s request, for her birthday dinner. We will never return there. After waiting with our beverages to peruse the menu for 30 min, the waitress returned. We received our salads. In a few minutes, all three courses arrived 1 minute apart. The defining moment came when my wife’s crab cake, rice & veg were cold. The saving grace was her steak was hot & cooked to perfection. My soup & enter were cold also. Restaurant 101: serve the food hot!
While our server, Melissa, did an outstanding job, the food was almost entirely tasteless. As such, it was way overpriced. We were celebrating a special occasion and would have chosen a different dining spot had we known better.
For an upscale meal, we enjoy the Blue Crab Grill. The interior is lovely and belies the fact that the restaurant is in a strip mall. The food is high quality. On a recent visit, I enjoyed the Crab Imperial. I was a bit disappointed with the size of the meal - the few vegetables on my plate did not constitute a "vegetable medley." The accompanying rolls (one per) looked store bought. I left the $32 meal still hungry. My wife ordered a delicious Seafood Bouille served in a bread bowl and in a wonderful sauce. They do seafood beautifully, but the prices are relatively steep and the portions relatively small.
Dined here twice while traveling thru the area. Service very good; fish and sauces very tasty.
Not a good place at all.
Second time here after enjoyable first visit. Delicious food, great specials, beer selection and mixed drinks. Quiet when we were there was a plus for conversation. So glad they were open on a holiday (Memorial Day) for our guests.
Great food! The drunken crab legs and oysters rockefeller are the best!
Food were outstanding. Our waitress was friendly and made good timing on bringing the food and drinks. She also comes by to check on us regularly.
The food was excellent, as was the service. It was well worth the drive from Philly, and Magnolia, DE.
1. For a restaurant in DE named "Blue Crab", it doesn't serve Blue Claw Crabs. What a disappointment.
2. My crab bisque was served to me at room temperature, not even warm. I couldn't get the servers attention to send it back to be heated. By the time my server finally came to my table, I had lost my appetite.
3. I ordered the Deep Fried Oysters as my entrée. The breading was so thick and tasteless, that the oyster remained cold.
Overall, I have a very poor experience with the food and the service. I won't go back.
The food and service was very good. The choices were extensive and there was something for everyone.
Table was ready but still made to wait 15 min. Sat at bar - bar tender was great. Waitress checked on us twice during the entire 90 min meal. Crab stuffed jalapeños were very bland no taste of crab. Wanted another drink since all’s weren’t good but no waitress. The other waitress there was always at the table next to us. Took our check to the front to pay so our waitress didn’t go MIA again. We may have just had a bad waitress but overall the food was just OK.
Celebrated our Anniversary.
We were in the mood for sea food. I had Surf & Turf, my wife had Crab cakes. OMG! When it comes to sea food, Blue Crab Grill is one of the BEST.
Amazing experience. Food was fresh and delicious. Authentic jambalaya. Crab cakes were excellent - no fillers, just crab. Homemade sweet tea. Large drink selection. Service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was very laid back and clean. So many options we will go back to try again. Make reservations dinner time on a Saturday can get busy.
First time here and we were thoroughly pleased. Food was delicious and service very good. We will definitely return.
The only reason I gave a 4 instead of 5, is because my husband and I were seated immediately (we had reservations) but it took 10 minutes for our server to come over. I had to literally speak to a manager for a server to come. All while 3 ladies were serving the table across from us. However, when Alex (a guy) did show up; he was phenomenal!!!! Good things truly do come to those who wait!
THE FOOD WAS BEYOND AMAZING!!! Everything was so fresh and delicious! I’ll be back and it’s a 2 hour drive from my house! ❤️
My experience could have been better. But waitress treated us like third class citizens. No menus to start, no welcome bread after placing order. never checked up on the table or our food. we had to ask a different waiter to do that. I don't like calling for peoples job, but this girl has to get with the program or lose it. Good food and atmosphere that's what i like about the experience.
Better than expected shopping center seafood restaurant
Always great service and great food
Service was average, had to ask for 2nd glass of wine. We were 3/4 through main course before waitress came to follow up to see how we were doing.
Food was bland. Filet was tender but not seasoned very well. Crab cakes were extremely bland, almost devoid of any flavor. Ribs were served dry, with sauce on the side, my personal preference. They were meaty and flavorful. Very odd that a seafood restaurants best dish was smoked ribs.
The food was well prepared and very tasty but we found that fish portions were quite small, particularly the average price for dinners. Friday night was very busy which may have contributed to the overall slow pacing of service, more likely a busy kitchen than problems with servers. Overall good experience but we hoped for better.
Great staff, food and highly recommend!
All was good, server disappeared at the end of the meal.
Unreal. Amazing. Delicious. As a New Orleans native that travels the Country 5 days a week, it’s nearly impossible for a restaurant to impress me. Blue Crab Grill wins. Book now.
This was our first time to Blue Crab Grill. I will say that the soups (Cream of Crab & Chipotle Corn Chowder) were absolutely amazing. However, the remainder of the meal was lackluster. The cobb salad was good, but it was a salad, the crab deviled eggs were extremely fishy tasting, the duck / andouille sausage & shrimp jambalaya was very basic, extremely salty, shrimp was off tasting, the sausage seemed house made but textured like play-dough and the duck seemed more like shredded dark meat turkey. The rice was very wet and mushy. The Smith island cake for dessert was ok, but very dry. Waitstaff was non-existent at times and the place had two other occupied tables of diners. The restaurant did not even check us in with our Open Table reservation and Open Table emailed me about a no show reservation which I had to correct. We just found that Blue Crab Grill is extremely overpriced for the quality of food and service. Unfortunately, we will not be back.
Consistently fresh and delicious seafood. Innovative twists on classic seafood dishes. Highly recommend the Lobster mac n cheese and the crab cake and ribs combo.
Always a delicious meal with great service. Alex is the best!!
For the cost of the meals there it was not worth it. The lobster was way over cooked. Couldn’t even get it out of the shell. That’s not all of it. We won’t be back.
As usual, food was excellent. Mussels were very good. Chef allowed herbal crusting on red snapper versus blackened -good. Clams and linguini also very good. Staff was attentive.
Nice place for lunch with friends and/or co-workers
Blue Crab Grill fills a void of good seafood restaurants in the Newark area, but it is getting beyond our means. I know crab is market price but $32 for crab imperial is a bit much. We will cut back our frequent visits to infrequent visits...like birthday and anniversary dinners only. For those who can afford it it is a great place to have a nice dinner.
Food was outstanding as usual and Nicole provided excellent service.
I had fried oysters- they were good, as usual with baked potato was hard and your good coleslaw. My husband had blackened ribeye- so,so- was grisly, baked potato was hard. Last time we went we had your prime rib, which was very good.
Went for a birthday - nothing special was done. Just got our food promptly. Food was great.
We really enjoyed our evening. The food and service were excellent.
I am from Maryland and have to say the crab cakes are tops. Plenty of steamers beforehand and noise level was appropriate. Value place for sure...
Jumbo lump crab cake are great.
