Blue Cow kitchen & bar Ratings and Reviews
We had requested an outside table, as we wanted to sit outside under the city lights, but when we got there we were told there was a private party outside. There were only two choices of red wine and the one I wanted wasn't available. Our meal was not starting off that great. It was also very noisy inside. We could hardly hear each other. (Another reason we wanted an outside table!). The food was good and we had a nice waiter. But I wouldn't return.
Blue Cow is a great find. It's within a short walk of Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Broad and Ahmanson. The food is great and reasonably priced and higher quality (organic) than the higher priced restaurants on Grand. They have big comfortable booths, as well as tables. We were seated in a booth with big soft throw pillows - so comfy. It's casual and fun and the menu is changed with the seasons, which I love because I get bored with the menu if it doesn't change. You can sit outside too, and we were told that there are live concerts in the summer. We'll be back!
Food was orgasmic! Customer service was exceptional.
We sat outside and even though there was a television and bar and lots of people, it was still quiet enough to have our conversation without any issues.
LOVE that it's farm to table. Food was fresh and absolutely flavorful.
I'd love to introduce more people to this place.
My husband and I want to Blue Cow for dinner before a show at the music Center. We ended up ordering mostly from the happy hour menu. The flautas were crispy and well seasoned, and the Brussels sprouts were delish. I also loved the sangria! Such a large portion, too. The servers were friendly and after our meal the walk to the center was perfect.
I have been here many times, the food is always solid. I ordered the avocado quinoa salad. It came without avocado, but no problem, our waiter was super nice and went to get some from the kitchen. My friend oredered the steak noodle salad. We were so busy talking that she did not realize there was no steak on the salad. No problem, our friendly waiter took care of it. He said there was a new cook in the kitchen. The food was fresh and light.
The food is great here. We went there prior to a show during the week and it was still happy hour. It was really loud inside because the bar was jammed with the after work crowd. It quiets down after happy hour. Because it was so crowded, we had to wait quite awhile for the food we ordered and it all came out at different times. We didn't complain but the manager came over and said he noticed we had to wait awhile. He took $40 off of our bill. Now that's customer service! We will definitely be back. Deviled eggs are fabulous.
Reserved the table way ahead of time but when we got there they have given away our table to another group (mix up they said). We had to wait considerably for a table. It took another twenty to twenty five minutes to get our food. Then the burgers are well done (all dried up) instead of medium well that we ordered. Very disappointing; not a good spot for lunch if you don't have a lot of time to kill.
Service was attentive, but the food was very mediocre--actually kind of sad. We both didn't finish our meals. The place was so noisy, we had to get up and change tables. The inside is like a cave that reflects all the noise. Outside seating looked pleasant but no seats were available.
This review is for the lunch time. (I have visited this place for happy hour and I was very satisfied with their service and food.)
This time, I was there with colleagues to have a lunch meeting. I got there at noon and I understand that it is the busiest point of the lunch hours. However, I cannot say that you can justify the 40-minute wait for the food to arrive. The food was good but I would not go back for a lunch.
Blue Cow is great for happy hour. A good place to either grab a quick drink or hanging out with friends. My family and I met there before attending the Jersey Boys show. We had a great time because of the casual atmosphere and great service. We gave up our reservations to stay in the outdoor lounge area for dinner. It was a busy night Friday night, but our server (Danny) did a great job of of not keeping us waiting too long. Servers and host all chipped in to make it a great experience.
We were seated outside because of a private party on a Tuesday night. We saw that other restaurants had private parties too so perhaps that's when downtown restaurants book them during the week? I think the menu changes every month and we weren't that impressed with the offerings so check out the menu beforehand. The service was very good from the hostess and server. Glad we made a reservation at 6 but by 7:15 outdoor tables opened up. Most people were there for post work drinks. We got a bite before going to the Ahmanson. Inside the noise level was high, outside it was moderate.
This is a marvelous downtown location for a restaurant. Their food quality leads the way and eating outside is a wonderful urban dining experience. The restaurant needs a bit of a refresher (broken benches and chipped tables; filthy tables covered with grease inside the restaurant). The service is always very friendly even when it's not the attentive.
