Blue Canyon Kitchen & Tavern - Kalispell Ratings and Reviews
Blue Canyon has a great menu featuring standards and specialty items, all deliciously prepared and nicely presented. We didn't have wine this time, but Blue Canyon has a very good wine list. I did had a specialty cocktail myself, which was terrific. My companion had a margarita, which she enjoyed. The server was very pleasant, but it seemed that she was unable able to find our reservation, booked through you. She also forgot to bring an appetizer we ordered. Other than that, her service was excellent, and, as I say, she was extremely pleasant. We had a very good time, found the food scrumptious and the atmosphere perfect for a quiet birthday dinner.
We often meet friends here, since there is something on the menu for everyone. We like the wine list and the cocktails are also very good. Unfortunately, some of the menu options were not available even though it was a friday night. What we did order was very good with the exception of the pizza which was undercooked, even when it was sent back, it came back unsatisfactorily. The ambiance is nice, however the open candle on the table set the wax paper in the bread basket on fire. One of our party was quick to douse it with water and roll it up to extinguish the flame. The staff mentioned that this had happened before. So why don't they fix it when it is a fire hazard ?
Restaurant management was visibly absent during our visit. Hostess didn't have my OpenTable reservation - as we walked in, a guest already seated asked the hostess if a bartender was available (should have been a sign for us to just leave!). My son's pasta was ok, my margherita pizza was not good (dough was too thick!) Lastly, server presented us with 2 bills (we would have double-paid). She apologized and explained how it happened but I didn't understand what she was talking about! We were staying at the Hilton next door and I thought it would be easier to eat there since we got into town late. It was a mistake.
Everything was great, except the very small amount of food for the price! We split a scallop dinner (it cost $33). We usually split wherever we go, as we're not big eaters, and also we each have a salad and/or soup before dinner. We ALWAYS are satisfied with this amount of food in other restaurants in the Kalispell area. We did each have a salad before our dinner at your restaurant. We were surprised that one salad was not included with the dinner, for that price. The small amount of food we each received (2 scallops each) was not reflective of the price we paid. We thought $33 for 4 scallops, a very small amount of side items, and no salad was very overpriced. The dinner did not even come with rolls, although we were served some when we asked. We were both hungry when we left. The presentation was lovely, service very good, etc. Even though we said above we would recommend to others, we would tell them we felt Blue Canyon was high priced for the amount of food. This was our first time there, so we'll give it one more try to see how it goes, because the restaurant is physically very nice and the service good.
I enjoyed coming back to Blue Canyon for dinner. Have had a few dinners here, ordered a fish dinner last time, everything was wonderful, such amazing flavor and generous portions. This time we had lots of tasty leftovers to take home! I love the lodge area and the fireplaces, it is a lovely place to sit and relax and have a martini- the pineapple one i tried was perfect. For the money spent, it was spot - on and exactly what i wanted to experience, having invited someone who hasn't been here before. It is nice to have a place like this in our smaller sized town, as it has a Montana feel to it, but yet very nice selection of foods and appetizers, beverages and oh i almost forgot, DESSERT. the Chocolate dessert with the jam was outstanding. What a talented group of people / cooks. Thank you, I enjoyed it and will look forward to trying something else here again soon.
We were sat a little lose to the open kitchen area, we could easily hear the cook's and server's personal conversations about life issues family problems etc. it's interesting to see the cooks/ chefs area and see them cook but the preparations, supplies & utility area being seen and that much open is a bit much. It's also a bit bright in that area due to the kitchen lighting. We thought about asking for a table change further away but it seemed trivial as it was after 9 pm and things were winding down .
Our experience was a little weird -- there were almost no other customers in a very large dining room. We had eaten at the Blue Canyon in Hudson Ohio and found that to be a lively vibrant place, not so much here. Food was good, but somewhat overpriced. Hope they do a lot of business with the hotel they are connected to.
The restaurant is a joke. First they sat us in main room and nobody would come to take an order. After 15 minutes the waitress came. She suggested us drinks but when we asked about seasonal rotated tap she refused to walk to the bar to find out because she had to serve a big company next to us. That is the first for me. The food was terrible as well. Mayonnaise on pizza! How about that?! I would not recommend this place.
This was a repeat visit for us, and the first question my husband asked our server was what were the dessert choices, so he could plan his order around his dessert. They are made in house and great. All aspects of the meal were great - salads, entrees, and desserts. We'll definitely go back the next time we're in Kalispell.
My husband and I tried this restaurant while in Kalispell since it was convenient to the Hilton Garden Inn where we were staying. We were quite pleasantly surprised with the overall quality of the meal, service, and décor. We both had drinks, salads, entrees, and desserts and were not disappointed with any aspect of the meal. The lemon brulee was especially delicious. The service was exceptional, and our server was friendly, efficient, and knowledgable. We were so pleased that we made a return trip to the restaurant a week later when we were back in Kalispell.
I was very disappointed that after making my selection off the menu the waitperson had not told me they were out of that dish. she should have told me from the start. Upon asking her for a recommendation she suggested the NY sirloin steak. It was cooked to my preference and was tasty, but one could bearly cut through it no less chew it. Tough and full of grizzle. Accompaniments were good. Ordered a huckleberry martini which I have had before. It too tasted like a melted down purple popsicle. I was very disappointed. Not a cheap dinner and quality has gone down over the years.
I looked this restaurant up on line, checked the menu and decided to eat here. Mistake, a big mistake. When I arrived the greeter was really nice and clean cut. Exactly what I expected. I sat at the bar because I was alone. After nearly 10 minutes, watching the bartender/server joking and talking with the other wait staff, she noticed me, apologized for not having seen me sooner. After bring me a drink (I wasn't driving as the restaurant is right next door to the hotel where I was staying). I ordered from the specials menu that was on the bar with the main menu. I was told they don't actually have the item, as that was only for happy time which ended 30 or so minutes earlier. Okay, so I asked about the items I saw oon line in the menu provided by Open Table.
She said it was impossible for me to have see those items as they haven't had them in several months. I had to pull up Open Tables site to show her before she would acknowledge it. Then she said she wasn't allowed to ask the kitchen for anything that wasn't specifically on the current form of their menu or she'd get into real trouble. I just finished my drink and went across the street to the Montana Club for dinner where they are happy to accommodate customers.
It's beautiful in there, and the servers were wonderful - great people! But it did took a very long time for part of our dinner to arrive. We ordered our main meal plus a side, and it took the entire meal for the side to arrive at the table. By the time it came, we were ready to leave. Tastewise? Not bad, but not as stunning as the ambience.
We really enjoyed our meal. I had the almond crusted walleye and it was fabulous. Even took some home and it was great the next day reheated. My husband enjoyed his bacon wrapped scallops and elk which was the featured dish for the day. Service was excellent Glad we found this place.
My mom, sister and I have a planned shopping trip each year in August. We live in Calgary Canada. We stay at the Hilton and plan to have a dinner at least one night at the Blue Canyon. Tues was the night we were there. My sis and I had the 2.00 taco special and a jug of margaritas. The tacos were the best we have ever had!! My mom had the steak with portobello mushrooms. She has terminal lung cancer and struggles to eat larger meals due to appetite. Welllll... She had no problem eating the entire meal including the awesome warm buns!! Our server (cannot remember her name) was great! Attentive, friendly and had suggested the tacos and margaritas which were a hit!! We will be back next year!! Thank you!! :))
The food was great as we dine there often. It seems the wait staff is usually different each time we go there though. The lights went out while we there. But hey it happens not a big deal. The staff tried hard to get lights out the larger parties first and then down to the tables after. We ate our dinner in the dark with a couple tea lights. In all actuality it was kind of fun. The night went downhill though when the power resumed. Credit cards were not able to be processed and we kept getting told it would be just a few minutes for the tills to be up and running again. Our waitress did not attempt to try anything or provide any solutions. After my asking another waitress and her being rude as well. I had to find ATM, pay and leave.
We went to the blue canyon for valentines day both last year and this year. Last year was great! Great food amazing waitress. This year we went back and had poor service right from the start. Seated way to clots to two other couples. ( almost bumping elbows as we ate. We were given menus from the hostess then didn't see our waitress for about fifteen minutes. When she came we just asked for water. About twenty minutes later we got to order our food. We ordered an appetizer and she said she would go grab us some roll. Didnt see her for half an hour. Finally got our shrimp and once we had finished those we were finally brought the rolls. Now we sat here for about 45 minutes till we got our food ( which was Luke warm )1hr later we got the bill
We're in our 50's & 60's and love prime rib. This was the BEST anybody at our table had ever had. I love trout and usually order it if on the menu. This was absolutely the best I had ever tasted. Large portion with an incredible sauce. Glad to see Dr. L on the wine list.
Outstanding food considering it is part of a hotel.
