We love it here at the blue Canoe! We drive from Coquitlam to enjoy the beautiful views from of Steveston fishing village! The food is great with a nice menu of seafood, share plates, tapas and salads! The patio is lovely to sit on while watching the fishing boats coming in or on the dock selling fresh seafood!
The food was good but I had to search out our food server to get a glass of wine and then also to have our order taken. The restaurant was busy but not overly so. Consequently, it was frustrating. Also, had to ask to have the bill brought to me.
I generally enjoyed everything about this restaurant. The appetizer and main courses were lovely as well as the drinks. We did not order any dessert. However the service was painfully SLOW. Our server waited 10 minutes before bringing over water, we waited another 15 for her to take our drink orders, waited another 20 or so for the drinks, and dinner...I lost track at that point. For two drinks, one appetizer and two main courses it took 3 hours start to finish. They comped us the appetizer and apologized saying they had new kitchen staff, but 3 hours is still a too long. If the service improves I will happily go back because I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance.
Food was good but service was slow. 160 minutes for dinner. I had to call into the front desk to find out where are desert order was, as we waited 30 minutes for it and wanted to get going. The staffer told me “ you didn’t have to call in, you should have just waved down your waiter”..... eh, yep, we tried....
If you go there ask them if they intend to look after your table. They need some coaching here. Otherwise the food was good and the setting nice.
Too bad they don’t have happy hour on weekends. That could’ve been the highlight of the restaurant. Imagine a ton of oysters for a buck fifty
We have been here several times and have always had a great experience. If seated inside and there is a large group noise can be an issue, but if regular customers or on the patio always fab. The food is well presented. This time Glen had a special - Beef medallions wrapped in bacon. Perfect. I had the Halibut and while fabulous just a bit too much salt for my taste. Hostess was wonderful and helpful. Waiter absolutely fabulous. We'll be back.
Great location. Waitress asked if "we are stuffed". We had the shared seafood platter. The cervice, the ahi tuna and oysters were great. The salmon too dry and previously frozen. Great ambiance and I like the heated patio.
The genuine hospitality of the staff makes dining at your restaurant an exceptional experience.
Disappointing experience. Poor service. Foid fair to average. Would not return.
Excellent afternoon on the warm sunny deck at the canoe
The peel and eat prawns were so tasty and fresh. The wine list is extensive and very representative of our excellent B.C. wine industry. Fast efficient service as always! Our server Jake manages to entertain with his jokes and stories but still provide professional service always a treat to have lunch at the blue canoe!
Only thing notable was sitting along window was quite windy and cold but the heaters worked well
As always a great place to eat, nice view great staff.
Lots of vegetarian options! Everything was awesome!
We had the Saltspring mussels. Very good. The poutine was not good. I expected "hand cut fries" but they were frozen.
The only time I have visited Blue Canoe was during Dine Out Vancouver. My expectations were high as I've heard many good things about the restaurant. However, the food was rather disappointing during Dine Out. A couple of us ordered the paella, which was quite dry. We also ordered the apple pie for desert, which again was very disappointing. The best part of the meal for all three of us was the appetizer (pork belly for myself, chowder for my friends).
Food mediocre at best
The location is amazing. The service was great. Our dine-out food was horrible. Dry and cold (we asked for a reheat, which mildly helped), overall it seemed that our entrees as a part of a $40 meal were pre-made and dry. As in dry rice and dry salmon. I can imagine that there was some care in the construction of these dishes, but that care was not passed on to us directly as the diner. I will probably go back for the location, but unfortunately not for the food.
Enjoyed the Dine Out menu.
Overall was good. Keep it up
Choices looked good on menu. Of the apperizers, 3 or 4 of us had the seafood chowder, adequate but not stellar: the veggy tower was a hit though. The paella was a bit dry and the seafood a littke overcooked unlike the short ribs. The apple tart was a flat serving of pastry with the thinnest slices of apple on a small plate with a scoop of ice cream. The service, ambiance and setting were great. Wish the food had lived up to those standards!
Great location, but a disappointing dining experience. There were issues with both my and my wife's meals. Some good choices on their wine list though. I think we'll try someplace else next time we have dinner in the area.
Had an awesome meal with great service. Our waiter was amazing. Made you feel like royalty. Would go back many times. Drove 1.5 hours to get there. Worth the drive. 2 thumbs up.
Got the $40 menu, though it says includes tip and gratitude on the paper menu itself; it does not (Almost looked like the jerk who didn't tip). Ordered the smoked pork belly appetizer, I say I wish I had more of the piece at the bottom. Super tasty! The paella was a massive portion! It was good, tasty, but not outstanding. The rib tastes bland until you add some cranberry sauce and then it transforms the dish. Not enough cranberry sauce to rib ratio. As for dessert I would of picked the chai creme brulee if I had known the apple tart came out so flaccid. Its not flaky, not buttery; but one sheet of pie crust with sliced apples laid on top with some ice cream, two pieces of strawberries and whipped cream as garnish. The creme brulee was creamy, had a nice crunch as one would except from a creme brulee. Smooth, creamy, not too sweet. The servers were consistently providing the best service, provided us with lemon water (my friend was a little sick). It was calm and relaxing. I am not sure I can indulge in this restaurant again with the price and the unpredictability of the food. But overall I don't regret trying this place during the dine out festival.
Went there with my bf and his friend for Dine-out in this restaurant the first time. We arrived there by time and someone came to serve us and gave us a table. After, a server gave us a menus and offered us some recommendations which was great. After we took our order, the wait was quite short and fast. The dish was great yet the portion was small. Overall was good
We ordered the dine out menu, but when we order a Paella the server told me was out of them. Is pretty disappoint of this restaurant because the main reason to come try paella.
Tried the dine out 2018, service is good but the food isn't worth the money -$40 dine out.
We booked last minute and were able to get in no problem even though it was dine out Vancouver. Our server was great - very attentive and friendly but not over the top. The food was pretty good and the atmosphere/ location was fantastic. Can’t wait to try the patio in the summer
Very good restaurant overall: if there were .5 values, I would have rated it 4.5 on most of the scales. There are good window, central, and booth spaces, plus a solid bar and appealing patio (on warmer evenings). I have been several times and enjoyed it on each visit.
I took my husband out for a birthday dinner and they made a great reservation for us by the window. The service was excellent
Really enjoyed the Blue Canoe. Service was very good, food was excellent and ambience spectacular
Blue Canoe is always the first place we think of when talking about meeting up in Steveston for lunch. The food is good and we always sit on the patio (enclosed) so the view is fantastic. We have always had friendly, attentive service as well.
Service was slow but everything else about Blur Canoe was wonderful. The food was delicious.
Very nice restaurant. Terrific location on the waterfront in Steveston. Lovely ambiance. Very personable service. Food is pretty good. We had the paella for our main course. It was good aside from the large prawn in the shell which was overcooked to the point of turning into mush. The appetizers were excellent as was the desert.
Unfortunately it was a foggy day so could not take advantage of the great view. The salmon burgers were delicious as well as the seafood chowder. Good choice in Steveston
Food is excellent as always and service is great. We were on a date night was hoping for a nice quiet evening. Not a very quite night as hockey game was on and was really loud cheering and screaming. But the food made up for the loud noise. :)
Excellent location, food and service. Highly recommended.
This was initially a very good restaurant but the food quality declined over the last few years. We recently decided to give it another try after reviewing the current menu. I had the sliders which were very dry. My wife had the chicken salad which lacked dressing. Not bad food but not excellent. The service was attentive and the ambiance is the best in Steveston.
Great Food! The decoration was beautiful especially because it was around Christmas time. A cottage/cozy feel to it and everyone was extremely nice :)
I love coming here as it has a great view and it's close to where I live . I have been coming here for years . I was a little disappointed the last time as the service was slow and it wasn't that busy . Also they took amazing things off the menu which I was shocked about . 3 things that were so popular for years . The Brussel sprouts , the crab and avocado sandwich and the lobster macaroni . It's too bad as those items were great . Other than that I still like coming here to eat for the view but I'll have to find some where else to go for the Brussel sprouts . :(
Great meal with friends and fantastic service from Cindy!
