Great waterfront location
One of our favorite places in Steveston. Beautiful view and fantastic local seafood menu.
Nice restaurant for everyday dining.
It was a great place to go even during covid, exceptional service and great safety protocol. Felt like a normal dining experience. Note: they position you next to your partner if you are next to a table of 4. It was refreshing compared to staring directly to your partner, you can watch the sunset across the docks and she can lean on your shoulder and it’s quite romantic.
Always a Steveston favorite ! Can’t beat the view from the patio of the water and fishing boats. Excellent service, and our special request was honored. Will be back soon !
The service was excellent, the food very good as always. I like the location and the view from either the deck or the interior.
Been several times but Blue Canoe never disappoints. Great atmosphere watching the sun go down over the ocean. Food was top notch
Generally I enjoy the Blue Canoe, but last night something was missing. I was there with my father to share a local spot. The restaurant was virtually empty - odd since our reservation was pushed to 8:45pm. We were sat outside at and by this hour, late August by the water is usually chilly. They hadn’t bothered to turn on lights or heaters, which drove my elderly father and I inside within 5 minutes.
Soon thereafter we ordered entrees of Arctic Char and Salmon, which sounded tasty. It was almost 9 after all. Almost as soon as we’d ordered, the server returned to ask if there was anything else we wanted as the kitchen was closing. That seemed odd because we’d skipped appies and gone straight to the main. What other hot dish would we want? When our fish arrived, it was in both cases dry. The entire reason I order fish in restaurants is to ensure a costly piece of meat is cooked properly. Not withstanding the business pressures of Covid-19, I honestly think they need to evaluate what’s coming out of their kitchen and touch points with the customer. Definitely could have been better.
Only reason I didn't give higher stars is due to their seating requirements. I arrived with my boss, from another province, and him and I were social distancing ourselves (and wore masks in car while driving). However the server insisted that we sit on the same side of the table to allow distance between us and another table. When I explained WE were also distancing, she didn't seem to get it/or care. We chose to sit on opposite sides as two co-workers would naturally and when they actually sat the table behind me, I had to move to same side of table as my lunch date. We could have pushed the issue but if she was intuitive enough to understand our predicament, she would have offered NOT to seat the table behind us, thus putting their FIRST customer to arrive (having made a reso too) first. The health of the two of us is just as important as that of others around us. Can't assume everyone dining together is in the same bubble.
Our order was soon taken so it started out fine. Lunch took a really long time to arrive. We were in no rush but I would expect our server to come by eventually and set expectations. Both meals, the halibut and cioppino, were excellent. The server continued to be scarce and forgot part of our order in the kitchen. At that point I would have forgone the cup of fries but wanted it sop up the excellent broth. It was warm near the kitchen so we sympathize with staff having to wear masks but taking them off while chatting next to meals waiting to be delivered isn’t OK. That said, it’s probably still the best restaurant in Steveston.
I was very impressed by the Covid-safe initiatives that the restaurant put in place. They took our temperature before allowing us to enter the restaurant, and then were very conscious of how far apart we were spaced from other tables.
Have been here numerous times and love coming back. Experiences have always been top notch. Now with COVID-19 safety measures in place, Blue Canoe has made things feel comfortable and safe. Thank you
It was my first time there in a long time. Even on a rainy day the enclosed patio is perfect.
Washrooms from a bus station, had to be said.
Bartender made our cran-tini with gin, well ok we didn't specify, so we didn't complain.
Oysters were fresh, with a simple presentation.
Fish and chips were quite.... Fine I guess?
Great ambience, magnificent views. Patio is best seats in the house. Service excellent
Generally very good.
Like staff is wearing masks
We sat on the deck where the view out over the water with the fishing boats in the foreground was serene and peaceful. The service was efficient and welcoming and the food excellent. I had the Caesar Salad with prawns, one of the best Caesar salads I have had in a while. My friend had the Salade Niçoise, she said it was delicious, the potatoes still warm. I have eaten here in the past and will definitely return.
All the food was excellent. The only thing that was disappointing was they didn't have lobster available. If this has become an issue due availability and CoVid, I suggest they have something on the website or menu to call ahead if they have it in.
We were looking forward to having lobster only to find out when we were ordering that it wasn't available.
The French fries were cold. The salad - salmon Nicoise was way overdressed. The batter on the fish and chips was gummy.
Our first dinner at the Blue Canoe since the Covid-19 outbreak. It was a special evening to celebrate our 19th wedding anniversary. We were a party of 5. They took our temperature upon entry and after a short wait, escorted us to a table cut into a nook in the hallway, which we found unacceptable. Even through the restaurant was about 30-40% occupied, we waited about 30 mins for a table and another relatively long wait to place our order. Overall service was average but food was above average. I understand that the Covid-19 crisis has placed draconian restrictions on restaurants but nonetheless, our wait time at the Blue Canoe was too long and experience was average, at best, considering the restaurant was less than 1/2 occupied.
The seafood platter was amazing. Everything was fresh. So delicious.
Great place to walk to local venue
From the reception to luncheon end a very easy flowing enjoyable time. Temperature taken before entry to restaurant. Table for 2 perfect in the enclosed Balcony area. Attentive Service and Delicious double pickle Chicken Wings and Caesar Salad. Great value for this Steveston Experience. Thank You!
We were very comfortable with the spacing on the patio. Our server was very good. She explained the protocols very well.
Fantastic for lunch on the patio!!!
It was a good experience from all areas Considering this awkward time! We both had a salad and drink which hit the spot! Service was good. One of our fav restaurants. We’ll come again.
Love the beautiful scenery AND the crab dip.
Delicious meals and beautiful presentation.
Really appreciate the staff diligence in cleaning and covid safety
Super friendly staff and great quick service.
Lovely date with my lady. She’d never been to Blue Canoe and love ether ocean front vibe. The oysters were amazing and the mussels and Arctic Char was delicious. Our server was helpful and dialed in our wine - beautiful Sauvignon Blanc and an exquisite Chardonnay
Awesome experience and our first time too. Enjoyed their Happy Hour. They also have excellent safety measures. I had the Wild Salmon and my husband had the Linguine. We also ordered Wings and Calamari. My favourite was the Black Porch Lemonade and had 4. We had a great time and we will surely be back.
The seafood is very fresh, highly recommend to others
