We had soup, salad, entree and dessert. All were excellent - very creative with unique and well-balanced flavors. Specially made bread is served before anything else and is marvelous. We requested the salad be divided into 2 portions and the dessert into 3 portions for us to share. This was done nicely. Blue Bottle is BYOB and because the dishes are artfully crafted, the pace of service is best suited for those who bring their own wine (or beer).
Our second time dining here and we loved it again.
Diverse menu, fresh ingredients and BYOB is a plus .
Chestnut soup and duck were my favorite. Highly recommend for a memorable night out
Went here for lunch just before Christmas. The place is quite small, a converted house. As you walk in, ambiance and decor was so so. We sat in the seasonal porch area and it wasn't too comfortable. Other tables seemed quite close although the place was relatively empty. The food though is quite good and the prices are reasonable.
Having been to The Blue Bottle on many occasions, I knew it would be a great selection for my wife's birthday. I called the morning of my reservation and explained to the maitre'd about certain food allergies my wife has, and they walked thru the menu on the phone, discussed ingredients and alternate options. When we arrived, a special "marked-up" menu was provided with all the details that had been discussed...she was SO impressed!!! The waiter emphasized the same details and was happy to help and answer all her concerns. Our selections were excellently prepared...and I cannot remember the last time my wife opted to have dessert!
Thanks so much for making our evening a special one!!!
Always a wonderful experience....the food and the service are always exceptional..... The only negative is that I have to travel almost an hour to dine there....
Always a winner! We have been ding here for years and always have an outstanding meal.
As always Blue Bottle did not disappoint! From start to finish everything was perfect!
The chestnut soup and the leg of venison were for me the peak of their autumn menu and why I rate this restaurant so highly.
BB never disappoints! Wonderful, attentive service alongside creative, innovative cuisine.
This is consistently the best BYO in the entire Princeton area. The Chestnut soup and all the entrees are consistently excellent. Rarely does a slip occur and If it does, they will correct it.
Friday night reservation, restaurant was about half full. Hostess was very professional and helped me change my table. Entree was delicious (sturgeon), appetizer good, desert so-so. Young male waiter could clean up his appearance to match the style of the restaurant. How the waiter interacts with me is part of the experience. Negative needing attention: The arrival of the food was very slow. I had to prompt the waiter to check on what was going on in the kitchen. I suggest the front room for your reservation. My experience with open table is that you never get a great table.
First time. We will return.
You can always count on a great meal at Blue Bottle.
My wife and I have dined at the Blue Bottle a half dozen times over the years. It is generally satisfying. Our experience last Saturday evening was the worst! We arrived at our 5pm reservation time and were offered the table closest to the front door. We asked for a different table and were seated a few feet further away. Our server came by very quickly, offered water, and opened our wine. We placed our dinner order by 5:15 and the salads were served within a few minutes. Things took a sharp turn from there. We did not see our entrees until 6:35. Not one person stopped by our table to inquire as to how things were or possibly explain our wait. Meanwhile other patrons were seated, served, and had left while we were still waiting. I finally inquired and was told that dinner would be out shortly.......another 10 minute wait. I ordered the scallops. They were nicely prepared and presentation was good. My wife had the beef tenderloin, which was two pieces of meat. When she moved the top slice the one below it was very rare! She had ordered medium. Our initial server came by just then and without my wife even saying anything, the server asked to take the meat back to the kitchen and further cook it. My wife refused and stated that we didn't want to wait any longer for our meal. The meat was edible but the experience very unpleasant. The worst part was being ignored. We all know that things happen. I'd rather have a well cooked meal and wait a little longer for it. But to be steadfastly ignored is not acceptable and in a restaurant like the Blue Bottle, not expected.
Chestnut soup was bland. Wait between appetizer and main course was at least 45 minutes. When my venison arrived it was over cooked. I ordered med rare it was med well. They offered to replace it but it would take over10 minutes. I was not willing to extend waiting for my meal while the rest of my party was eating theirs. They took off the cost of one dessert to compensate. I won't be back.
We thoroughly enjoyed my birthday dinner at The Blue Bottle Cafe. The food was presented beautifully, was creative, and prepared perfectly. Service was perfect. The space is pleasant, with some vintage character. Looking forward to going back for a regular weekend dinner.
Small and quiet for a week night meal. I love BYOB's but most are Italian and that can get old. This one had a nice menu and the service was very good. We were not rushed and we really enjoyed our time there. I would go again in a minute.
This is pretty much our favorite restaurant in the entire Central NJ/ Bucks County area. If we have a special date night, family celebration, or need to feel special (and don't really want to drive to Philly) this is where we are going. We can't think of anything we've ever ordered which was disappointing...occasionally we might wish we had chosen differently (and the choices can be hard!) One of us almost always orders whatever they are doing with diver scallops. But have had so many memorable meals. We prefer to sit in either the front or central rooms...find the patio room less comfortable. Service usually finds the sweet spot between crisp/attentive but also low-key...or less persistent.
Excellent food at a great value - BYOB so very affordable for great cuisine
A classic autumn menu; the chestnut soup which I've had in previous years, is always outstanding. The duck breast, done at my request with the marble potatoes (which went so well with the jus), was prepared perfectly.
The Blue Bottle always delivers. Creative food, nice atmosphere, enjoyable for dinner and a byob! Rory and Aaron pour their hearts into this Hopewell gem and it shows. It's our go to for dinner.
My wife and went to celebrate and had one of the best experiences we have ever had at a restaurant. The food was outstanding, very flavorful, cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. The service was incredible with a knowledgeable wait staff and Rory, the owner, was extremely friendly. We will definitely be returning many times.
I had duck, which was OK. I should have ordered the sauce on the side.
Save room for the profiteroles!!
Scallops were wonderful, served with a delicious beet sauce. Accompanying vegetables were well prepared and very tasty too. However, were a group of six and it seemed like a long wait for our dinner.
Outstanding food and service. We have been going to Blue Bottle for years and they are consistently terrific.
You can't beat this restaurant. The food has been consistently great for years. We've never had a bad or even a mediocre meal. It's a BYO, staff is trained, pleasant, ambiance is casual but very nice even for a special occasion.
One of the treasures in Hopewell, NJ. Friendly, pleasant, and good food. The salad was especially delicious! Staff are helpful and at the same time not intrusive. Definitely a place to go for an enjoyable dinner.
We love the Blue Bottle and come here with friends for good dinners. BYO is great. Excellent chefs and interesting menu that changes with season.
Dinner for 6 on a Friday night. Available reservation was for 515.
Plus: Food good, love BYOB, layout pretty.
Minus: Waitress never smiled or made eye contact, felt rushed (tried to order apps while talking, drinking & studying menu and was told you have to order apps & main dishes at same time), had to ask if specials (none that night), had to ask for bread and got 6 pieces and then ask again to refill.
Would recommend for a later reservation and as a special occasion place.
The autumn menu is one that I particularly enjoy about the Blue Bottle, especially as it includes venison. That, with the veal sweetbreads as a starter, made for an outstanding meal.
The food is always fantastic, with varying season menus. The service is great and personal as well. I would absolutely recommend this place...
We have been coming to this restaurant for years, and continue to be amazed at the creative menus the chefs come up with. I had the barramundi on Saturday night, with Peruvian potato salad and strips of squash. The sauce had a nice tang to it; I cleaned my plate and loved every bite. The menu changes according to what is available and what the chef creates along the way so this place never gets boring. BYOB makes it a great value. I highly recommend the Blue Bottle!
Delicious, fresh, and creative cuisine. Service is very friendly and relaxed. Bring a bottle of your favorite wine, and save room for dessert!
The menu changes according to season.
The preparation is outstanding.
We picked this restaurant based on reviews on TripAdvisor and because it's a BYOB. The food did not disappoint. We both loved what we ordered. The prices aren't cheap but the prices didn't seem exorbitant considering the level of preparation.
From the outside the restaurant seemed fairly basic and has a small parking lot which I imagine fills up quickly during peak time. Though there are places on the street to park as well. For our 8:30 reservation we found a spot.
The main dining area was very cute and very nicely decorated. We were seated in an overflow room of sorts which sort of looked like a sun room. It had a completely different feel and wasn't as nice as the main room. Not bad but not great either. I also found the overhead lighting in there a bit harsh as it created a glare in my vision.
The service was professional - no complaints there.
Overall we had a great meal and if we were in the area again I would consider coming back.
This is a great place with food you usually do not expect at places outside of cities. The menu is unique and you can try combinations of food you don't find at other places. Menu is not too large and offers just the right amount of a variety of food, ensuring everything is prepared freshly. We love this place!
Blue Bottle has become our go to place when we want an outstanding restaurant where we can bring one of our cellared wines. Four diners, four dinners, four apps, four desserts - all excellent!
Tried it bc it was recommended: the food was alright but the scallops had gritty sand and that spoiled what was otherwise good. The service was exceptionally cold and perfunctory by two tall handsome servers who treated us with disdain - they were polite but hardly welcoming. Restaurant is permeated with old house smell. won't be returning voluntarily. Will, however, go back to Sweetgrass, where food and service were excellent.
