The restaurant staff were very friendly, and the food was amazing!
This is a lovely looking restaurant with lots of character.
The staff were all very friendly and seemed happy to help.
Two of us dined having starters, main courses, shared a dessert plus a bottle of wine and it came to just over £60 which is quite good.
The food I would have to say was ok, nothing wrong with any of it but at the same time nothing to recommend, I've eaten as nice a meal in many a pub.
Improve the food a little bit and this would be a restaurant I'd frequently return to.
Our Sunday lunch was amazing. My husband said it was the best he's ever tasted. Our children cleared their plates , a miracle in our house
We were extremely disappointed with this restaurant - it took over an hour before our main course arrived and then the vegs were cold. The vegs were then heated up but this is not an experience we intend to risk repeating. Shame, as it was good a year ago. New chef?
Very friendly welcome and attentive service it was a Monday evening and there were no other diners. A beautiful authentic wood beamed medieval character property. My lamb shank was perfect lots of it and very tasty however my husbands fish was not so perfect - small portion. The wooden chairs though attractive and of an unusual design were very hard. Very handy location for Coventry's iconic Belgrade Theatre. We will go again it was an enjoyable evening.
Not sure what has happened to this place as it used to be lovely. However seems to have really gone downhill. No drinks menu! Ended up with a dodgy Romanian Pinot Grigio. Food was pretty poor. Won't be going back.
I have dined off and on here for a few years and rarely review but I'm spurned on because there's obviously a heap of anonymously left negative reviews and I have to say that the food and service is great again.
Four people dined. All of us with different tastes and expectations and all of our expectations were satisfied to a very high standard.
Thank you for a great meal out
We visited last year and had a really god experience, so we of cause decided to reserve a table, when we returned to Coventry. That was a huge mistake.
They were only able to serve a very small part of the menu, so we ended up with burgers.
Though being the only ones in the restaurant it took 40 minutes to get our food and quite some time to get anything to drink.
The place was freezing cold. We had to keep our coats on.
Most of the time there was no staff in the restaurant and the food was absolutely horrible - nowhere close to the quality, we experienced a year ago.
Definitely not worth the price or time.
Best steak I have ever had! The service and attention to detail was great. Made Valentines a memorable occasion.
Food was amazing but the fact they didn't have a drinks menu was a bit strange. The staff didn't have any knowledge of the wines which made it difficult to order.
The food was of good quality and generous portions so would definitely go back.
Very enjoyable dining experience that finished our day off perfectly
I have been before for dinner, the food was good and that's why I came Back for Sunday lunch, even tho the first time I came I emailed for some mocktails for my large table and I was told they would be available and on the night they wasn't, I got an apology email and was asked to come back however I wasn't impressed with the Sunday lunch, the beef was over done, was a small portion for the price, orange I believe didn't go with the vegetables which I couldn't eat! never got a check back and would have liked extra gravy! However The dessert was lovely. This has put me off a bit to come back again, as it cost a lot for not a great lunch!
Went for an anniversary dinner with my fiance and it was absolutely dreadful the bread was stale, the food was just plain poor and overall the service was slow and unresponsive considering there was only 2 other tables being waited on
I asked about the scallop starter, i.e. was it just one or some. The answer was that it was chopped up so I still don't know. So ordered the langoustine prawn cocktail. When it came not a single langoustine in sight. I found out during dessert that they had not had a delivery. This should have been said at the time of ordering or at least not charged the same. I had the haddock with Dahl and coriander potatoes. Fish cooked well and Dahl lovely but with mashed potato -no ! we ordered pineapple for dessert, only to be told after choosing that there wasn't any. A chef did come ask for feedback on the presentation of the cheesecake as it was new, it was nice to be asked.
over all it was quite good but there could be better communication about what is available on the menu.
We attended an annual trade event at the Ricoh Arena and last year we ate at the Blue Bistro for the first time and had an excellent experience so decided to bring my colleagues from Europe to the Bistro this year for another great experience, the staff were great and very welcoming but unfortunately they were let down by the fact that 2 dishes on the short menu was not available, the Steak Diane & Ravioli. The food we ordered was great but at the end of the meal we tried to order Coffee and this was also NOT AVAILABLE due to the coffee machine being broken.
I think I will look for another restaurant to try next year.
Booked this restaurant for a special meal for three younger members of my family. All of us were looking forward to a 'special meal'. I had read good reviews of this restaurant, and after a four hour drive to get there my expectations were high. No Crayfish in the crayfish starter, just prawns, no pastry in goats cheese tart - and it went downhill from there. I have done something I have never done in my 70 years of restaurant dining, and that is write a direct letter of complaint. Be very wary of dining here, as my experience in no way reflected their positive reviews. A disappointing evening for a 'foody' and for the young people - well, we went somewhere else afterwards and a second meal was consumed!
Visited Blue Website to look at menu on at least 3 occasions prior to our visit and felt very excited about the choice of options and variety. However, our visit to Blue was on a Sunday evening when we found out that there was a limited Sunday menu. We don't believe that this was made obvious on the Website either when we perused the menu or when we made the booking so we felt that we had missed an opportunity to sample their wonderful food.
Excellent location, review and ambiance. Service was quite slow but don't think this was down to the staff, think they were not trained properly. However, they were very polite and friendly.
This would have been a 5 Star review across the board if the food arrived a bit faster.
However, i didnt mind waiting for the quality of the food served.
i will be returning!!
The food and atmosphere there is excellent...however the evening that we went (wife's birthday) many items on the menu and wine list were not available. Would still recommend as service was good and food was excellent.
Me and my boyfriend decided to try somewhere new on Saturday night so booked in at Blue Bistro and oh my did we get it right! The food was incredible, the choices were so varied it took us ages to choose what we wanted to eat and we've already decided that we have to go back to try the other dishes!
I have been here a couple of times now for Sunday lunch. The staff are friendly and the food is good value and very nice. The only bad thing is the service can be slow. So I wouldn't recommend if you're in a hurry.
It's was so nice, the food was amazing the atmosphere was just great! The staff were friendly and helpful it was really good! Recommend going
Sorry to say that Blue Bistro was very disappointing. It looked so nice from the outside and we had high hopes. However the roast pork was really quite unpleasant. The roast potatoes tasted of Chinese food. Maybe cooked in the same oil as a previous Chinese dish? Never tasted anything quite like them. The pork was undercooked and swimming in a pool of gravy. The mangetout were nice, shiny and crispy. I had the brownie with ice cream for pud as I was still hungry and even the brownie was rather unpleasant, with a sort of manufactured taste. The ice cream and sauce were ok. The young man who served us was pleasant enough but I didn't like the way he brought the glasses to the table with a finger inside each of them.
the food was lovely, although we did have to wait 45 minutes. although my son didn't get a yorkshire pudding with his pork loin, even though the waitress assured him she would get him one.
I went with my wife on the 3rd October . The food was good but had to wait an hour for my staters . Drank a bottle of wine between use before starter . Other customer were complaining of waiting time for food !
We travelled from Spain for my mum's 90th birthday party and wanted somewhere to wind down after the hectic planning of a tea party for 60 people, all direct family. We chose well with the Blue Bistro. food good, atmosphere good, good choice of menu. One slight hiccup however was when ordering coffee and BRANDY the waitress said there was no brandy. I am sure this is not true but so as not to spoil a fantastic day with my extended family by complaining we just ordered Cointreau instead. Would visit again if in Coventry city centre.
The menu is interesting enough to feel you are dining out, without being "fussy" - it's good honest food done well. The ancient building makes the destination rather special, and the interior decor fits it well. Lighting VERY low - if there are times when you need reading glasses you will need them here! Lovely relaxed and friendly service; professional & efficient without being either stuffy or inappropriately casual. Overall, it's definitely "dining out", but very relaxed dining out; great !
I booked a meal here for my anniversary with my partner which I specified on booking, their booking is done electronically online, we were given a bottle or prosecco, started drinking and were then told we'd have to pay half the amount for it because they had on their system we'd asked for one...even though we hadn't. Gravadlax a horrible mushy texture, a few items, including seabass, portion sizes very small considering price. The dauphinois potatoes weren't creamy and were burnt and hard. It also would be great if I didn't have to clean my own cutlery at the table.
Great lovely cooked food and a good range on the menu.
Maybe a little slow out of the kitchen and scope for the food to be even more adventurous.
However, all in all highly recommended.
Sunday lunch with my Mom who is often uncomfortable eating out as she doesn't think it's good value and often struggles with background noise.
She loves Blue - the food, the attention from the staff and the general experience. My poached salmon was superb although did need the extra potatoes with it.
This was the worst meal I have ever had in any restaurant. The liver was overcooked inside and very dry but cremated on the outside with the mashed potato looking and tasting like lumpy porridge. In all a very poor meal.
Really great place for romantic me, good service, and value for money
Luckily they were not too busy, as the waiter said they hadn't received our booking from Open Table!
Though they were only about half full, the service was a bit slow. The food was worth waiting for though. My pulled-pork burger was very tasty but a bit dry.
Overall good value, specially the desserts
Took my partner out to Blue Bistro for Sunday lunch . a very pleasant experience. The food was well cooked and presented , the staff and management were very attentive. A very pleasant afternoon. We will definitely be there again.
Really enjoyed our meal. Good wine list. Waiting staff worked hard.
Nice to have some space between tables rather than being crammed in,
Very atmospheric due to the age of the place.
We went for our anniversary. The decor was lovely although a little dark! We didn't have a starter as nothing took our fancy. For our mains we had the pie and burger both were lovely! Pudding was disappointing, I had the brownie but it was more like a dry cake or biscuit. The benoffie pie was small! Drinks were stupidly pricey my husband had a large bottle of peroni which cost £6.50 a bottle! We wouldn't go again :(
It took 40 minutes for them to bring our appetisers (bread). A free round of drinks didn't really make up for this. The waiter was apologetic and it didn't seem to be his fault. the food was pretty good, if a bit overpriced. Although one of our meals was stone cold (perhaps it was ready and waiting before our bread) and had to be sent back for something different. I don't think I would go here again considering the price and our experience.
Meals here are usually very good, but on this occasion the steak was a bit tough and was just slapped on the plate with the other items, which looked a little off putting.
1. Starters were cold
2. 3 waiters asked us what starters we ordered
3. Cheeseboard had items missing
Overall food was poor Leo the head waiter was pleasant and was good he tried to make experience good but we were dissappointed with the restaurant
