Thoroughly enjoyed our evening there. The restaurant was busy, so the staff was a little stressed and disorganized. The salmon was a bit overcooked and the presentation of my bison was not eye-appealing. But the food was very tasty and the sauces for both the salmon and bison complimented those dishes very well.

They had some issues the night we went. They were running behind to begin with and even with reservations, it took a long time to get seated, order and get our food. We ended up having to rush ourselves and run to the Symphony so we wouldn't miss our ticket time. My salmon was overcooked and everything was kind of bland. A woman sitting next to us had a chicken breast brought out that was raw in the middle and instead of taking the whole plate of food, they only took the chicken to cook more. I don't think that is good policy with a food like chicken. She didn't want to eat the part that it had been sitting on, which I don't blame her. We were sat right next to a storage area where they actually had to have my husband move in the middle of our dinner. They kept going back into that area and it was very distracting. It was disappointing to have our anniversary dinner here. I imagine every night isn't that way, but I don't think we'll ever be back.

Fantastic entrees but not served hot. Busy night and service team a bit overwhelmed. Potentially perfect, just not this time.

I very much enjoyed my first time at Blue Bird during KC Restaurant Week. The ambiance inside was nice, servers were friendly and the food was good. Loved having all the organic, local, and seasonal options. Good can be healthy and still taste great! I was there for lunch but I saw people around me eating breakfast food and it looked fantastic so I look forward to coming again and trying breakfast.

No acknowledgment for Birthday even though reservation indicated so. It was FREEZING in the restaurant. Salad was dressed to the point of soggy. Tomato soup was like marinara.

This restaurant is so cute, has amazing food and a very nice staff. I could tell the chef really put passion in the food. The food was delicious, fresh and locally sourced. It is a nice pit stop in route from the airport (if you are traveling north). Nice, quaint area without a lot of hustle and bustle like the Plaza, ect. I will return for sure!! Def one of my favorite restaurants in KC.

So disappointed with the meal, as I have been a customer sporadically for years and have always had good experiences in the past. I was treating 3 friends to a girls' lunch. I had a breakfast dish, which sounded fantastic and creative on the menu, but was ho hum. The lights in the restaurant seemed to be intentionally left off so the only light was the natural light coming through the windows -- hence it gave the venue dark, gloomy feel. The one highlight of the meal was a warm vegan orange cake.

Food was excellent and service was better! The “morning after” was delicious and large. Sausage gravy was excellent - lots of sage which we all liked.

We went for New Year’s Eve, 8 of us, prior to needing to be somewhere at 9:30. It took forever to get drinks and food. We arrived at 7:30 and didn’t get food till 9:10 and that was only some of the food. We had to eat super fast so we could hail the Uber and get to the Sprint Center. The comped our meal 25% which was nice but I really wish we could have enjoyed the food after waiting so long to get it because it was good.

We made last minute reservations for NYE, party of 4 and were seated quickly in the space near the back. The restaurant is charming and I've always enjoyed the decor. There were several larger parties in the room, but it never got too loud. Ordered several specialty cocktails, which were unique and definitely had alcohol in them. The chicken liver appetizer was delicious - it includes a broth, with mushrooms and onions and bread for dipping. The green curry was also delicious, and spicy - perfect for a cold night. The desserts were good, nothing special about them and some thought they were dry. Overall a nice night!

I love Blue Bird Bistro. It's always one of my favorite places to go. I went this past time with two friends before we went to the Nutracker at the Kauffman, and it was a great place for us to go. It's really close to the Kauffman (can't really get closer!) and it's a nice atmosphere so we didn't feel out of place in our nice dresses. This particular time, our table was pushed aside for two larger tables who were also going to the ballet, so we had to really scarf our food down to get there in time. We barely made it! Despite the fact that we had to wait a long time for our food (which was disappointing but understandable), we really enjoyed our meal and our food. We will be back. I just hope that next time, all theater-goers are given priority, not just large tables. (We did mention ahead of time that we were going to the ballet, and we arrived at the restaurant two hours before our event - it should have been plenty of time.)
Tip: if they have it, get the cajun tofu. It's really good!

It’s really unfortunate how badly this restaurant has gone down hill. It’s very obvious they’re about to close doors. It used to be a great place, could never get a table or would have to wait for hours, now - it’s empty.... Food is awful... Sad...

Our server, from the country of Moldova, was delightful. My vegetarian wife & I, a flexitarian, were both quite satisfied with our meals. We had to catch a show later at Music Hall. Our meal was promptly prepared & the evening was fab.

I very much enjoyed a late lunch at the Bluebird. My friend had the salmon, because he remembered how good it was the last time he was there. And it did not disappoint. I was able to order off the breakfast menu, and got the potato skillet. It was so good I wanted to lick the plate. There was a good wine list in a broad range of prices, which I very much appreciated. LOVE the creative decor and the atmosphere. The Bird Cafe is my “go to” restaurant in KC.

I really want to like this place but there are so many other great places in KC that you can't just be mediocre. I never ever add salt to my food but I had to add some to my pork dish. The hummus was standard. The cake needed more frosting since it was dry. The food always takes so long to come out.

Wonderful place. Wonderful people. Wonderful food.

Our server was amazing. So kind and patient. I brought my family to the bistro for brunch. My family, coming from a small town, where not quite "aligned" with the restaurants menu. They asked the waiter to change the menu and chef's creations to fit what they wanted. I was so embarrassed. However, the server was a champ. Did just that and accommodated my whole family. Thank you for making that an easy morning.

I might not bring my family back because they can't handle and appreciate absolutely outstanding food, but I for sure will be making multiple visits each month from here on out!

Thank you,
Logan

This was our first time here and we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent neighborhood restaurant, which is a short walk to the Kauffman Center. We went for a pre-concert dinner. The cocktails were innovative and expertly made and the food was fantastic. The only downside is that it would be good to have a written dessert menu. After hearing a verbal list of the dessert choices, we ordered a slice of cake to split. It turned out to be $15, which seemed much for a dessert slice of cake. On the other hand, the cake was absolutely fantastic and the slice was huge - we split one half of the cake and took the rest home and split the other half after dinner at home the next night.

I love the Blue Bird for what they do great- support local, seasonal and vegetarian/vegan friendly eating. And I love it that they've remained a Westside institution. However I was sorely disappointed by the quality of my food on a recent visit for a family birthday celebration dinner. We started with the hummus, which was yummy. Then had the butternut squash soup. It was not a soup at all, but rather an unfortunate bowl of puree, the consistency of baby food. Very unappealing. On to the salmon, which was served with what sounded fresh and seasonal - a salad of white beans, green beans and tomatoes.

When the server put the plate down, I smelled something funny before I even picked up my fork. I assumed the salmon was bad. The salmon was fine, although a bit overcooked. But after a few investigatory bites, I realized it was the white beans. They were about 2-3 days past their use by date, and also undercooked. Even though I only took a few bites, my stomach was still in distress the next day.

Since this was a family celebration, I didn't want to make a fuss. So I pushed the beans around my plate. I spoke with my server discretely after our meal, and she handled the situation satisfactorily. I get it that sometimes things go wrong. But what I don't understand is how anyone in the kitchen could have allowed that food to go out?

Thank you Blue Bird for being such a great place to get breakfast, brunch and a nice glass of wine. But please work on your dinner. I want to want to come back.

When we came in, servers appeared harried and behind on washing glassware. The couple beside me said, "could we please get our drink order?" Received appetizer before drinks, no bread served with salad until we requested it. We were finished with the salad by the time it was brought to our table. Our food was tasty, but the prices were high compared considering we had catfish, chicken, and tofu-not exotic proteins. Not sure if I can tolerate the bad service and prices in order to get to the food...

We both has the bison burger. The size and consistency of the bun does detract a little from the spectacular burger and monsterous slice of tomato ~ which tasted amazing. The side salad was a tad underwhelming, but fair. We saw a VERY LARGE chocolate cake on the counter across the room, and inquired about it... port wine infused 4-layer chocolate cake. (We suggest you share a slice). Overall - quite exceptional meal AND service.

This is one of our favorite breakfast spots! It's normally amazing. The food is great, there's a wonderful rustic feel and the choice of menu items can please everyone!
This particular experience was not the greatest. They ran out of biscuits which I realize happens, but my husband just asked for a few pieces of bacon instead of a his biscuit and he was told there would be an up charge. They were also out of jelly (for my English muffin that replaced my biscuit). Mind you we were eating on a Saturday morning. It's not like they didn't know how many people they serve on a weekend.
Our server was also pretty bad. We had to ask another waitress several times if she could go find him to refill our coffee.
I only recommend Blue Bird because I know how good it can be. Good thing this wasn't my first visit or I'd never go back.
