The idea behind blue bird bistro is a simple one. Actually, it's more an ideal than an idea. An ideal that starts with a passion for organic food and our desire to share its benefits. A belief in pure, all natural foods unburdened of artificial additives and preservatives. A responsibility to promote sustainable foods and the positive impact that it makes on our world. And a commitment to work closely with local farmers who share in these ideals.
The result is an eclectic mix of flavorful, delicious organic fare, ideal for the discerning diner. A diner who truly understands how good organic can be.
Central Soyfood smoked tofu dusted with our Creole mix on dirty rice drizzled with a lime aioli
our classic house made organic herbed hummus
Campo Lindo Farm grilled chicken breast and their hard-boiled egg, house cured Golden Rule Farm bacon, Goode Acres Farm tomato, blue cheese and Two Sisters Farm bibb lettuce tossed with ranch dressing
Our Grandkids were in town visiting and they requested we eat at the Blue Bird, as it's their favorite place to eat when they come to visit from the east coast.
This has been one of our favorite restaurants since we discovered it. we've enjoyed everything on the menu but we always seem to come back for the bison burger. The cocktails are deliciously fun too.
Love Bluebird Bistro! If your looking for a delicious brunch, or a romantic dinner, look no further. Everything on the menu is delicious, though I usually get the French toast. They have indoor or outdoor seating on a nice day. Check it out!
Wonderful and amazing organic food, with superior and friendly service. A Kansas City hidden jewel!
Wonderful, organic food!! Always a great choice!!
New experience and enjoyed the vegan choices! Really enjoyed the atmosphere! It was more romantic than a Restaurant chain and loved the idea of healthy organic foods and locally grown foods!
One of the best dinner experiences that I have had in 10 years. The Wednesday night “communal” meal hosted by Jane who owns the restaurant was absolutely one of the best meals and where strangers become friends over a meal. It was perfect! I will be back monthly to experience this wonderfully unique dining experience that you can’t find anywhere else in KC.
My family and I were first time guests with reservations, and still had to wait fifteen minutes to be seated. Host and waiter were nonchalant about service and inconvenience. Our order was messed up, waiter did compensate on bill. I will not return.
Delicious, local food prepared to perfection! Server was very knowledgeable of wine pairings that really made for a terrific experience. We'll be back!
Very disorganized staff. Food was ok.
I’ve had good experiences in the past, but food wasn’t at its best...
Service was slow, but good dinner overall. The food was good and menu was impressive! Great ambience, very charming.
Very disappointing! Service was terrible and food was mediocre. No apologies for bad service... just kept hearing it was a crazy night. Never going back. Should have turned around when the people leaving were wishing us good luck!
The food and serivice was excellant, We did have to wait 15 minutes past our 8:15 PM reservation.
We waited at the host stand for 45 minutes to be seated for our 7pm reservation, and were never seated. We walked across the street to Westside Local and had a great night. Blue Bird blew it.
The value and service has always been an issue after several experiences here. Ambiance is great but doesnt make up for subpar service and prices that dont match what you get.
The service was all over the place. We didn’t have to wait too long for our food but we ordered everything at once. I think this place is fine on a normal night but can’t really handle the influx of customers on holidays. Food was fine.
We really like this place but overall tonight things were off the mark. Service was slow. Seating was rigid based on time of reservation even if people arrived early vs late. Food was inconsistent in taste and quality. Would recommend flexibility and customer service focus. We watched several groups leave in disappointment either before being seated or shortly afterwards.
Arrived for a reservation at 5:45 p.m. It took a long time to be seated. We had tickets to a show at 8 p.m. We had to leave at 7:20 p.m. and had not received our meal yet. Service was very poor. Couldn't tell you how the food is, we didn't get a chance to try.
Valentines Day dinner with wife and adult children
The food was organic and thoughtfully sourced, which is alway nice. But, the food was also really poorly executed. My wife and I ordered three menu items: vegetable soup, green curry dish, and spinach pasta. The vegetable soup was so over seasoned that the manager gave us a refund. He even tried the dish, agreed, and went back to tell the kitchen. The pasta and curry were just not good either. The kitchen seemed to be lacking fundamental techniques. It felt like we were served food from a friend learning how to cook. I really don't like giving negative reviews, but we would never go back and the prices were just ridiculous for the quality. I really love to support restaurants who focus on better sourcing, but that can't be an excuse for higher than average prices with poor execution.
We had not been to Blue Bird in at least 10 years....not sure why we waited so long. It's in such a wonderful location, such a charming restaurant, and the food was excellent. We will be returning again soon!
Our meals were excellent. My son and husband had the pork, I had the chicken. We also had the catfish nugget appetizer. We all would order our dishes again. Our server (Bridget) was great. We will definitely be back.
Blue Bird Bistro always delivers!!! Great food that tastes wonderful and is organic!!!
I went during restaurant week, so they were very buys. With a 7:00 reservation we didn't get seated until almost 8:00. Other than the wait the service and food were great. I'd go back.
The soup was tasty but too spicy for us. We enjoyed the bison bierocks and salmon burgers, and the cookies were warm and delicious. We did have to wait awhile for the cookies to finish baking.
The space us fab-yoo-luss vintage, quaint and charming. The food, sourced locally, is dee-lish and the portions are just right.
This was the perfect GNO place! Such a great atmosphere and wonderful food. Thank you for an amazing experience!
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant. Great service. Delicious food. Nice wine selection. Cute decor. We look forward to our next meal here!
Second time visitor and we really love this place, but they need to fix their wine issues. We bought a bottle of Napa Zinfandel ($79), and the bottle was warmer than room temperature - to us, we described the bottle as hot. Hot red wine at premium prices is not a good show. We can barely tolerate room temp red wine, so hotter than that can not only ruin the wine, but the experience.
Their staff and food are both AMAZING!! Will come here now more often as it is close by and such a healthy alternative that still tastes incredible too! Thank you Theresa, you were such a doll to help me with my gluten free choices and changes, much appreciated all of you!
Absolutely one of my favorite restaurants in downtown Kansas City. The cozy atmosphere and great staff, and of course wonderful menu (it’s all great) makes it my favorite place for formal, informal or after yoga dining. 5-stars!
This truly was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. A group of friends and I went here on a Friday night with a reservation at 8:00. There were only 2 other tables of people in the entire restaurant when we arrived, and no others arrived while we were there. The server was short with his words, mumbled a lot and expressed very little interest in us being there at all. We never got waters refilled, 2 people asked for a soup & entree - one of them only got a soul which tasted terrible, the other only got their entree. Two people ordered the black bean burger which tasted awful, and the rest of the table’s food was mediocre at best. The server continued to be terrible the rest of the meal - not responsive, rude and clearly just wanted us to leave even though there were only 2 other tables in the entire restaurant. It was terrible, and I would never ever go there again.
Service was amazing. Very attentive., kind and helpful. The food was even better. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and each dish was perfectly prepared. Our orders came out fast and the amount of food served gave us a bang for our buck.
Unbelievably delicious food and really courteous, kind, and helpful servers. Also love the emphasis on supporting local farms. We will definitely be back!
Great spot to connect with old friends. Such an nice assortment of food offerings.
An old building. At upstairs, where it was like an old house, but nice. Service was a bit slow, but food was great. They made up for the slow service with a free desert.
A holiday dinner out in the Westside. Not too bad.
Terrible service! My husband’s order was input wrong, and by the time it was corrected, the rest of us had nearly finished our meals. My brother-in-law’s plate was served barely lukewarm, and was sent back to be re-heated. At the end, the separate checks were incorrect, and had to be redone. All in all, not a good experience. Probably will not return. There are too many restaurants in KC far better and a better value.
The place was quiet and not crowded. Both of our meals were good. The owner dropped by to ask how our evening was going. The dessert recommendation was spot on. Overall a very pleasant experience.
