Blue Bird Bistro
The result is an eclectic mix of flavorful, delicious organic fare, ideal for the discerning diner. A diner who truly understands how good organic can be.
This place has so much charm! We had a group brunch after a night out for a bachelorette party and we were very relieved at how easy it was to grab brunch as a large group. The restaurant was super accommodating with our early arrival to our reservation, friendly, and well organized. The group had mixed reviews on the food, but I personally greatly enjoyed my meal of French toast, sausage, eggs, and sliced apples. Overall its a beautiful spot with an eclectic ambiance and a wonderful staff with high quality foods.
Dessert was a little disappointing. Otherwise the food was outstanding.
Valentine's res booked through OT mentioning anniversary. We were taken upstairs, above the restaurant. This part is like bedrms of a 2nd floor home. We were seated in a room where one other couple was already eating. The room had no music. Our whispers felt like announcements to the other table. Our server promptly came to take our drink order. We let her know we were still deciding. She doesn't return for 20 minutes. Within this time 3 other couples are seated. The server returned, took our whole order. 45 minutes later the appetizer arrived. Another hour passed and 2 of the 3 tables seated after us have been served their entrees. During this 1.45 hour wait our server never informs us of the status of our order. Finally my partner leaves the room to find our server around the corner doing nothing. Inquiring about the order we are told our ticket is up next. We cancel the entrees. The server comes to our table astonished we wouldn't want to wait. She doesn't apologize or offer to bring or comp the check for our drinks and apps and never returns. Terrible. Worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant.
We were there for Valentine’s Day. Good atmosphere overall. Tables were placed fairly close together but our server said that it was set up that way to accommodate service on Valentine’s Day which is understandable. If you were dining there on a normal night it wouldn’t feel like you were sitting on top of each other. We were in the back room and it is all brick walls with a couple of large windows. A little chilly. We had a reservation & we were seated on time. Unusual offerings, great tasting local farmed foods. Presentation was great. Attention to details. Good craft cocktail menu as well as wines and beers. Our server (Tiffany) was great. We had the cheese curds and dipping sauces had great flavor. Blackened catfish was seasoned well & hubby had the meatloaf. He said it was great. Ordered two different types of desserts. The house orange cake & of course a chocolate one. Both were good. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, just allow a little extra time for that. We will definitely go back.
Wonderful atmosphere and ambiance. Good food. Cute little bar. Great bar staff. A little pricey of food for what I feel got. I will return with a date for drinks.
My husband and I took a friend here one snow cold night. It was cozy inside, food was simple and well prepared, the wine suggested by our waitress was wonderful and we had a great time. The dessert was also good.
The atmosphere was delightful - a warm spot on a cold evening. The service, from server Reade (we asked her to spell it and I've now forgotten -- that was before several beverages), was fantastic from start to finish. The craft cocktails as well as the wine were perfect. The food ... some of it was outstanding, the rest of it merely very good. In the very good category: the steak and the Moroccan stew. In the amazing category: the catfish entree, the chicken livers starter, the catfish pieces starter and the pork roast entree. All in all, a great evening with a group of friends in a perfect setting for that.
I was excited to try Blue Bird Bistro so we made reservations for 10:15. We had to wait until 10:25 sit down because they had 2 people cleaning and putting a table together for a walk-in. I could literally see our spot which would've taken 2 seconds to put us in but we still had to wait. No big deal, not the end of the world. I was going to get a mimosa but they served them in Champagne Flutes. I couldn't justify spending $8.50 on a champagne flute mimosa when almost everywhere else in the city offers them in wine glasses (that is worth $8.50). So my boyfriend and I got the coffee which was $3.50 a cup for the most bitter coffee I've ever tasted. I love my coffee black but I had to choke this down. I ordered the egg scramble with Bison Sausage and it was the most bland dish I have ever had. The only saving grace was the 2 pancakes it came with. Even my boyfriend said it was awful. He got the Salmon Benedict and that was delicious. We ended spending over $50 with tip for one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. I would maybe go back for dinner but never for brunch.
Had a lovely brunch at Blue Bird. We sat at an adorable corner table draped with lights. Had the Morning After (because that is what was needed lol!) & it worked it’s magic. Can’t wait to go back.
Brunch was delish!
I took my parents and daughter for Saturday brunch. We had a reservation but waited several minutes to be seated. We sat in the back room and it was uncomfortably chilly. I kept my coat on. The service was a little slow which would have been fine on a relaxed Saturday morning if the room was more cozy. Food was excellent except for the bacon that was very fatty, undercooked and an unappealing color. My mom is vegetarian and raves about her tofu scramble. The pancakes with granola and sweet potato were excellent. Server recommended getting two but one would have been plenty for me. I had enough to share. Coffee was good and hot. A espresso machine would be a nice addition.
Great food and great drinks! Was sad to see it so empty :(
Reed was an amazing server for our group of 10!
Good fancy food and Fair normal food. Poor service though even when not busy.
Local ingredients, well prepared, with very good service. Fun atmosphere. Parking can be challenging.
We stopped in before a show at Kaufman. It happened to be restaurant week, which was a pleasant surprise. Our service was outstanding, we ordered from the special menu for restaurant week and we had soup, main dish and dessert all served quickly but not rushed. The room we ate in was quiet and cozy and the food was delicious !
We waited in line for 45 minutes for our reservation and then gave up. The hostess was rude. Noise level was so loud you couldn't hardly hear anyone near you talk. Very, very disappointed in the experience and will not be back.
We made a reservation for Restaurant Week and were seated within five minutes of arriving. The host (or manager/owner?) was very pleasant and gave us a choice between two available tables. Within a couple minutes of being seated, the bartender greeted us and brought water for the table, and mentioned she would be back shortly to take our drink order. About 10-15 minutes passed, during which another employee stopped by a few times, apologizing and explained that it would just be a few more minutes. That employee was sweet and helpful and ended up taking our food and drink order, and she waited on us for the rest of the evening. Our appetizers were served just a few minutes later, and the entrées came out about 15-20 minutes later. We still didn’t have drinks (other than water) and decided to cancel them. The bartender, who was intended to be our server, was visibly busy, so we understood and were not upset. About five minutes after receiving our main course, the host/manager/owner stopped by with our drink order, on the house. We were impressed and appreciated the gesture. The service we received was wonderful and everyone was very nice. Only four stars instead of five, simply because this wasn’t a “perfect” visit. The food was amazing (love all the vegan options!) and the staff was knowledgeable of ingredients and various dietary restrictions. Highly recommend and we will return.
Enjoyed Blue Bird Bistro before and once again here! Met the owner, Jane, super friendly and down-to-earth. Great vibe. Local farms is where you food comes from, not a factory with semi-trucks. Worth it entirely. Would recommend.
Creative and delicious menu fit for veggies and carnivores alike
Decided to have a girls’ lunch at Blue Bird Bistro. Incredibly cute restaurant in a cool neighborhood. We arrived and were seated in a corner booth decked out with string lights and adorable flower in vase. The server was awesome. Extremely courteous but still professional. The food came out in a fairly timely manner however if I was in a hurry for lunch I might have chosen differently. First our was my salad. Then, my main dish arrived - the Pork and Polenta Benedict. Great portion. Great flavors. I truly enjoyed it and definitely will be back. The sunshine coming through the windows definitely helped with the ambiance. If I’d have come at night, I’d be more inclined to think it’s a nice place for a date or intimate dinner.
We went to celebrate a birthday and were treated so well by the staff. The restaurant is tastefully eclectic, has a large menu, and so many different options for all palettes. We love coming here every time.
Blue Bird Bistro has become my favorite place in Kansas City. The service is wonderful and personable (try to get seated in Kiara's section) the food is amazing and they are so accommodating to dietary restrictions. Their vegan/vegetarian options are legit! I love their brunch, but also a great spot for date night, wine with friends, etc.
Absolutely one of best quiet, 5-Star and humble fine dining in downtown KC walking distance to the Kaufman Performing Arts Center.
Great experience! Server was welcoming and personable!
Our first visit to Blue Bird Bistro was on New Year's Eve which was also our anniversary. We absolutely loved everything about the restaurant. We love their "farm to table" philosophy, I love their vegan offerings. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. We wished we lived closer but whenever we visit Kansas City, we will be sure to visit BBB again!
Nice.. eclectic and good healthy food
The chicken and French toast was flavorless, not fried and small in portion. I’ve been to BBB and never had anything bad but this was disappointing, I wish I would have returned it. Additionally, it was 19 dollars for it...so super disappointed.
I tried the meatloaf with gravy and absolutely loved it. I ended up taking half of it home, because it was a very large serving. Our waiter was so nice and kept the coffee hot and filled. I love the location and ambience and the quality of the food is outstanding.
Wonderful experience. We will return soon and often.
Easy to make reservations. Love the 'local' atmosphere, and the fact that they try to use locally-produced food and drink. The wait staff is friendly, and efficient. I love businesses that have renovated an old, old building to bring about a successful business. This offers a taste of old KC neighborhood feeling.
We enjoyed the food once again at the Blue Bird. An eclectic setting.
Loved the vegan pancakes! Anthony was a friendly, conscientious and observant server! Building had lots of character!!
Chicken livers nearly raw, meal prep slow, pasta over salted
It's always fun to go to Blue Bird! A KC treasure.
Great food! Pleasant and polite service.
Blue Bird is a warm, welcoming place with hearty, tasty food that is responsibly sourced and prepared with care. If you haven't been to Blue Bird, try it. If it's been awhile, go again. Lovely experience, all around.
Food was amazing; great ambience. Will definitely be back!
It had been years since we visited the Blue Bird Bistro and were pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the food was. Everything was very fresh and has delicious flavors.
Our waitress was wonderful. Very professional and helpful with dining/wine selections.
We had purchased a gift card for this restaurant at a charity auction. We plan to return again and again. It's a hidden gem off the beaten path!
It was disappointing that the restaurant was empty and our hope is that it was just due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Great service, tasty food and quaint environment .
