Blue Bird Bistro
The result is an eclectic mix of flavorful, delicious organic fare, ideal for the discerning diner. A diner who truly understands how good organic can be.
My server was very friendly considering we were a large group. She offered to take pictures for us since it was my birthday. Will definitely be coming back!
Highy recommend the Irish Coffee with breakfast!
Love this place! The food is always amazing and the ambiance is perfect.
Love to dine here! Cozy and great food!
Not sure what happened here, but things at this place have taken a drastic, palpable, turn for the worse. What used to be nice, gentle, tasty food has devolved into gross, crass, hit-you-in-your-face overdoing of herbs and spices. None too clean, really hot on an early Sunday afternoon, neither the place nor the food gives one any reason - at all - to come back.
Love the farm to table menu
My omelette was swimming in oil when it arrived. Gross! I asked for crisp bacon and it was floppy. Was not the busy time of day so can’t use that as an excuse
Great breakfast food, staff was very professional and accommodating.
Food was not hot. Also not much food for the price. Low value
Great food in a funky neighborhood that we love, and with out-of-towners in tow...it was a great experience. One of the four is a Veg. only person but the rest of us are meat-eaters! The biscuits and gravy with the bison sausage on top was the BEST ! Keep up the good work!
It had been some time since my wife and I been to the Blue Bird. We always had good experiences, but new places had opened closer to us and we fell into new habits. We found we were missing it and returned. We were so happy we did. My opening cocktail brought familiar flavors together in an unfamiliar way. Who puts ginger beer and whiskey together in a smooth surprise? The Blue Bird. We never order chicken livers. But, we did. In lush brown sauce. We both would do them again. Beautifully combined blue cheese, pecans, and a lovely vinegarett accenting perfect greens. Blackened catfish, moist and spicy. As usual, Jane came by to check on us. We will go back soon. The Blue Bird Bistro has offered consistently good food and warm service for years. New menus and items but same quality and attention to detail.
We went on a Saturday morning at 9 and were seated right away. The staff was friendly and welcoming but overall the service was slow to non existent. It took nearly an hour to get our food. The server never came back to refill our water glasses. At the end we ordered a pastry for the kids but they never returned with it. The food was mediocre at best. The biscuits were dry, the bacon greasy and the biscuits and gravy “unusual”. Doubt if I will return.
A friend and I went to Blue Bird Bistro to celebrate my birthday. We had excellent service that was very personable. My Chicken and French Toast was really good and my friend enjoyed her salad. We had Irish coffee with fresh whipped cream that was delicious and a wonderful apple dessert that was gratis for my birthday. This was our first time here and we’ll definitely be back.
The Chocolate Port Cake was the absolute best thing I have ever eaten! This restaurant is perfect for any occasion! My favorite place to eat in all of KC.
Great food and the uniqueness of Blue Bird Bistro makes it worth the time and effort to get there
Great food. Cozy setting. They do Vegan well. Love to dine here.
Everthing was wonderful! Delicious food, great service, wonderful atmosphere. Delightful as always!
Wonderful neighborhood gem recommended by a good friend. The best whole grain pancake I've ever had.
We went for a special brunch so we’re expecting it to be a little pricey. However, we did not expect to have basic eggs and breakfast meats over cooked. No one was able to eat all of their bacon or sausage after paying $5 dollars extra for it.
Nice quiet evening. About half full on a Saturday early evening. Food and service were very good. Nice selection of wines. Atmosphere quiet and quaint but not to casual. Artsy but not pretentious. Menu was limited but what we had was good. I had the ribeye that was very tasty. Wife had the pork which was also good although she was not a fan of the corn cake that accompanied it so we traded sides. We had the chocolate port cake for desert which was ok. My only reason not to give 5 stars was cost, higher than what I would expect. I would recommend this for a quiet date night.
The food was good except they were out of two or three entrees and it was only 7pm! This has happen before to us.
The billing/payment was a debacle as the server couldn’t figure out apparently how to charge us for the food we ordered and/or didn’t order!! Seriously it shouldn’t be that difficult. As well the service just seemed slow overall.
It’s a cool venue but now I remember why It takes me so long to ever return to this place .
Cold. Bad coffee. Server did not know the menu. Food was not good.
As a group of ladies wanting to be pampered and looking for a delightful and fancy breakfast... Blue Bird Bistro was perfection!
Everything about Blue Bird is great. Very personalized service, great food, cool little neighborhood- I loved it. Pricey but worth it.
Great food - healthy options without sacrificing taste.
Excellent food great service beautiful atmosphere. I love this restaurant and can’t wait to go back again!
This place has so much charm! We had a group brunch after a night out for a bachelorette party and we were very relieved at how easy it was to grab brunch as a large group. The restaurant was super accommodating with our early arrival to our reservation, friendly, and well organized. The group had mixed reviews on the food, but I personally greatly enjoyed my meal of French toast, sausage, eggs, and sliced apples. Overall its a beautiful spot with an eclectic ambiance and a wonderful staff with high quality foods.
Dessert was a little disappointing. Otherwise the food was outstanding.
Valentine's res booked through OT mentioning anniversary. We were taken upstairs, above the restaurant. This part is like bedrms of a 2nd floor home. We were seated in a room where one other couple was already eating. The room had no music. Our whispers felt like announcements to the other table. Our server promptly came to take our drink order. We let her know we were still deciding. She doesn't return for 20 minutes. Within this time 3 other couples are seated. The server returned, took our whole order. 45 minutes later the appetizer arrived. Another hour passed and 2 of the 3 tables seated after us have been served their entrees. During this 1.45 hour wait our server never informs us of the status of our order. Finally my partner leaves the room to find our server around the corner doing nothing. Inquiring about the order we are told our ticket is up next. We cancel the entrees. The server comes to our table astonished we wouldn't want to wait. She doesn't apologize or offer to bring or comp the check for our drinks and apps and never returns. Terrible. Worst experience I've ever had in a restaurant.
We were there for Valentine’s Day. Good atmosphere overall. Tables were placed fairly close together but our server said that it was set up that way to accommodate service on Valentine’s Day which is understandable. If you were dining there on a normal night it wouldn’t feel like you were sitting on top of each other. We were in the back room and it is all brick walls with a couple of large windows. A little chilly. We had a reservation & we were seated on time. Unusual offerings, great tasting local farmed foods. Presentation was great. Attention to details. Good craft cocktail menu as well as wines and beers. Our server (Tiffany) was great. We had the cheese curds and dipping sauces had great flavor. Blackened catfish was seasoned well & hubby had the meatloaf. He said it was great. Ordered two different types of desserts. The house orange cake & of course a chocolate one. Both were good. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, just allow a little extra time for that. We will definitely go back.
Wonderful atmosphere and ambiance. Good food. Cute little bar. Great bar staff. A little pricey of food for what I feel got. I will return with a date for drinks.
My husband and I took a friend here one snow cold night. It was cozy inside, food was simple and well prepared, the wine suggested by our waitress was wonderful and we had a great time. The dessert was also good.
The atmosphere was delightful - a warm spot on a cold evening. The service, from server Reade (we asked her to spell it and I've now forgotten -- that was before several beverages), was fantastic from start to finish. The craft cocktails as well as the wine were perfect. The food ... some of it was outstanding, the rest of it merely very good. In the very good category: the steak and the Moroccan stew. In the amazing category: the catfish entree, the chicken livers starter, the catfish pieces starter and the pork roast entree. All in all, a great evening with a group of friends in a perfect setting for that.
I was excited to try Blue Bird Bistro so we made reservations for 10:15. We had to wait until 10:25 sit down because they had 2 people cleaning and putting a table together for a walk-in. I could literally see our spot which would've taken 2 seconds to put us in but we still had to wait. No big deal, not the end of the world. I was going to get a mimosa but they served them in Champagne Flutes. I couldn't justify spending $8.50 on a champagne flute mimosa when almost everywhere else in the city offers them in wine glasses (that is worth $8.50). So my boyfriend and I got the coffee which was $3.50 a cup for the most bitter coffee I've ever tasted. I love my coffee black but I had to choke this down. I ordered the egg scramble with Bison Sausage and it was the most bland dish I have ever had. The only saving grace was the 2 pancakes it came with. Even my boyfriend said it was awful. He got the Salmon Benedict and that was delicious. We ended spending over $50 with tip for one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. I would maybe go back for dinner but never for brunch.
Had a lovely brunch at Blue Bird. We sat at an adorable corner table draped with lights. Had the Morning After (because that is what was needed lol!) & it worked it’s magic. Can’t wait to go back.
Brunch was delish!
I took my parents and daughter for Saturday brunch. We had a reservation but waited several minutes to be seated. We sat in the back room and it was uncomfortably chilly. I kept my coat on. The service was a little slow which would have been fine on a relaxed Saturday morning if the room was more cozy. Food was excellent except for the bacon that was very fatty, undercooked and an unappealing color. My mom is vegetarian and raves about her tofu scramble. The pancakes with granola and sweet potato were excellent. Server recommended getting two but one would have been plenty for me. I had enough to share. Coffee was good and hot. A espresso machine would be a nice addition.
Great food and great drinks! Was sad to see it so empty :(
Reed was an amazing server for our group of 10!
Good fancy food and Fair normal food. Poor service though even when not busy.
