Blue Agave Club, in Pleasanton, California, offers a vast assortment of outstanding Mexican food. The atmosphere is what you would expect from a high-end dining establishment and Blue Agave Club fits that bill. The restaurant is known for 100% blue agave tequila margaritas, as well as a secret homemade sweet and sour sauce.
Some of the most popular entrees at Blue Agave Club are the sauteed mahi-mahi with cauliflower and rice, vegetarian enchiladas and enjococado, which comes from a 100-year-old family recipe. Many recipes are vegetarian or can be made that way, including the Blue Agave Bowl with vegetables, rice, beans and zucchini blossom sauce.
We (16 people) celebrated my daughter’s first wedding anniversary at this restaurant and all of us had a wonderful time. We got a cozy room to ourselves. Our guests loved the margaritas and the tequilas ; Anejo being the popular one... The food was tasty and quality of food was excellent: light on stomach! Tres Leche cake was marvelous too!! Service was friendly. We will cherish this memory of a cheerful dining experience!!!
After many years, still my favorite restaurant in the East Bay. Tortilla soup is the greatest soup of any kind I have ever had. Margarita list is massive and they are all so smooth. It's better sitting outside but inside is nice too if it's cold out. It took a little while to get seated and served this time, but that's about the only non-positive comment I can make
Special nostalgic location. I had dinner there with a dear friend who has now passed away. Very fond memories, nice to return.
Carnitas was excellent, Margaritas are also superb with many high quality Tequilla's.
Seating is mostly outside under heaters, can be a bit cool but nice ambience.
My wife and I enjoyed a Valentines dinner together. Margaritas were excellent. My steak was tasty and my wife had several vegetarian choices on the menu. Bar was a little noisy but fun.
It was a quick eat and leave kind of experience but the staff was very friendly and the food was good, we will come back again :)
Food sucks! Pricey!
Love the historic building and feel of this restaurant.
My biggest disappointment was I thought the serving sizes were small for the cost, and for Mexican cuisine.
This is one of our family's favorite special occasion places, and not so special occasions! Service is always wonderful, the waiters make us feel special each time, the food is excellent, and the margaritas are fabulous!
Super over-priced for what you get. No a la carte menu whatsoever. A friend ordered a chicken enchilada and got some deconstructed awful mess resembling NOTHING like an enchilada. With that said, there are some special feature entrees that were pretty good. Again though, way too expensive. There are great Mexican options that will run you less than 1/2 of our bill.
I almost broke my toe outside on their brick walkway on the side of house/restaurant. I was obviously in a lot of pain and the manager never came by to see if I was ok the waiter seemed concerned. It just seems a little loose as far as how the run the place. I came for chili Colorado they don't have it anymore can you believe that. I had the mole it wasn't anything to write home about. I think they buy it and not make it there. The mole sauce is a long process to be excellent, there's was ok needed more characters Chen and less sauce. My wife bowl seemed kinda small for the price. I don't think I'll return.
Service was very very poor
Had the house margarita and it was horrible, no taste, Food was bland and expensive.
Food was good but not good enough to make us go back after the service we got. We were sat immediately, margarita came quickly as did the food. THEN... Our table was left alone after dinner for 30 min before someone popped their head in and asked if we wanted coffee. Granted it was NYE but the restaurant wasn’t packed by any means. No excuse for paying extra attention to the table with 6 older folks and leaving us wondering if we were going to get the bill ever. Over $100 for the two of us and it was not worth it.
The food was great, but a bit overpriced. The service was great, except one of us ordered a drink that was never delivered, and it was still on our bill (easily corrected when brought to their attention). The inside dining can get quite loud; however, it was holiday party time; they were gracious and offered to moved us to a quieter table. I do love this place, mostly for the good food and the tequila menu. It is especially nice in spring & summer when you can sit outside.
Hostess was very rude on her attitude and comment. i would not recommend it.
Excellent food went for a business dinner highly recommend.
Great food awesome service. My kind of place to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries.
On this evening, Blue Agave seating was limited to indoor dining. The food was great. The atmosphere was a little tight and loud (energetic). Pricing seemed on the upper end of moderate.
Blue Agave is our go-to place for birthday lunches! David and all the servers treat us great...with pitchers of margaritas arriving before we even order them. Needless to say, the food is fantastic, as well.
Friendly and attentive server. We were a party of 10. Limited selection on menu. A different taste of Mexican style cooking. Menu prices are higher than other local restaurants.
We visited this restaurant in summer time when menu was much larger and weather was appropriate for outdoor dining. This time, we sat inside, our server was distracted by others and not very present and the menu was much limited. My colleague's margarita was mostly tequila and mine wasn't as good as this summer either. Recommend avoiding until weather improves for outdoor seating, expanded menu and better service available.
Food is good, but my wife and I were seated in a small room filled with charming but noisy small children. Should have asked for the outside seating under the heater lamps!
I was very excited to eat here, but we were very disappointed in the food. For the amount of money spent, the food should be sooo much better. I would not recommend this place for dinner,
I love Blue Agave's atmosphere. Beautiful location in downtown Pleasanton, outdoor seating on a great patio with very friendly wait staff and they easily accommodate 6-30 people for different events I've had there. Only downside is service is very slow, even for 8 people, but if you have time to enjoy the evening and chat with friends, this is a great restaurant.
We sat on the patio and had a great time watching the street scene . The Margaritas we had were great I cant remember the name as there are so many to choose from. The food was delicious including the tortilla soup, carnitas, enchiladas. They had many seafood entrees and a very different pleasing menu. The portions are very substantial. I would definitely come here again the next time I am in Pleasanton.
Great menu, service and drinks in the outdoor patio!
This place is always worth the 40 minute drive time for us. They offer some really special Mexican dishes that you won't get anywhere else, and some that are just the best of their kind. Cocktails are great and you can have a margarita custom made from their long list of tequilas. It's a fun place and in the right weather, sitting outside is an amazing treat. Try the 100 year old chicken recipe - it's to die for.
Have eaten here several times. The food and ambiance were outstanding as each time in the past. The one disappointment on this night was after excellent service throughout the meal, we could not get the waiter to pick up our tab to pay. After waiting 15 minutes, and seeing another table get their bill, pay and get their receipt, I had to go up front to pay.
We will still visit again in the future.
Our office often celebrates birthdays at Blue Agave because of the festive yet relaxing atmosphere, awesome service, wonderful food and impressive tequila options!
We go to Blue Agave a few times a year. It is consistently great food. All the help is kind, funny, and efficient. It is not the cheapest dinner you can have, but it is worth the price. The ambiance is great being able to eat outside is an added treat, plus it is in downtown Pleasanton!
This is the second time we've eaten here in the past three months. The food is varied and delectable. I especially like dining outdoors during the summer months. The margarita choices are extensive as well. We recommend it to anyone looking for a great Mexican restaurant in Pleasanton.
The ambiance is good, but the food was ok for the price and also the quantity was less for the price.
The food was great and the service was excellent . I will definitely go there again. I had the sabanna de pollo and the dish was great.
Last night was the first meal in a long time at BA - a little surprised at the prices - - food prep and presentation pretty well fit the price point - but, still a bit expensive, even for upscale Mex food. That said, our meal was terrific. The outdoor dining area is a major benefit at BA. We'll definitely be back.
My wife and I are addicted to Blue Agave Club, and in truth, it think that played some part in our relocating to Pleasanton. Best during the outdoor eating season for its great patios front and back, we never get enough of this place. Biggest complaint is that occasionally one of our favorite items will get rotated off the menu to be replaced by a new favorite. Amazing margaritas, awesome steak dishes, great table salsas...the list of notables goes on and on. If you like higher-end Mexican food experiences, you REALLY need to try this place!
I had Trinity enchiladas w/ Huitlacoche Sauce and added chicken. BTW It's 2 enchiladas. Have you ever had enchiladas without tortillas? No b/c enchiladas are fillings wrapped in a tortilla and having eaten enchiladas of every sort for....50 years and I have never seen or tasted ones like this. I even asked the waiter---are enchiladas fillings wrapped in tortillas? YES. But my enchiladas came with a "filling" that was a 1/2 inch wedge of un-melted cheese with no tortilla wrapper. The chicken was strips laying on top of a wedge of cheese that I had to cut/saw and and on top was a pile of black bean sauce-----NOT huitlacoche corn sauce. Not only did it look bad it was bad and over-priced at $20.95 + $4.95 extra for chicken. I told the waiter politely it was the worst plate of enchiladas I have ever had---with no tortilla wrapper and to pass my comment to the chef. He asked if he could sub a different dish and I said No. He took the meal off the bill. BTW the guacamole was only so- so but the CHIPS were very good--hearty---whole meal corn---the salsa good. The hibiscus margarita also "girlie" good. Will not be back.
Visiting from out of town. Place came recommended from friends in Mexico. We loved the patio and ambiance. Busy place at lunch
Food is very over priced. Tables are bare without a table cloth. For what your paying, there needs to be more ambiance. The crab enchiladas were a pate that reminded me of a can of cat food. They need to prepare the meal using real crab meat. Very disappointing. Won't being going back anytime soon.
I ordered the shrimp. Fairly fishy, but what bothered me is there was virtually no seasoning. My girlfriend's quesadilla with zucchini tasted like a child's bland grilled cheese sandwich . The service was very utilitarian, not friendly, but not unfriendly. The bill was ridiculous. Just under 200 dollars for my girlfriend and I. We did have a couple of margeuritas but not enough to stumble from. I loved the atmosphere outside but am not willing to go back.
