Blue Agave Club Ratings and Reviews
Food was good but not good enough to make us go back after the service we got. We were sat immediately, margarita came quickly as did the food. THEN... Our table was left alone after dinner for 30 min before someone popped their head in and asked if we wanted coffee. Granted it was NYE but the restaurant wasn’t packed by any means. No excuse for paying extra attention to the table with 6 older folks and leaving us wondering if we were going to get the bill ever. Over $100 for the two of us and it was not worth it.
The food was great, but a bit overpriced. The service was great, except one of us ordered a drink that was never delivered, and it was still on our bill (easily corrected when brought to their attention). The inside dining can get quite loud; however, it was holiday party time; they were gracious and offered to moved us to a quieter table. I do love this place, mostly for the good food and the tequila menu. It is especially nice in spring & summer when you can sit outside.
We visited this restaurant in summer time when menu was much larger and weather was appropriate for outdoor dining. This time, we sat inside, our server was distracted by others and not very present and the menu was much limited. My colleague's margarita was mostly tequila and mine wasn't as good as this summer either. Recommend avoiding until weather improves for outdoor seating, expanded menu and better service available.
I love Blue Agave's atmosphere. Beautiful location in downtown Pleasanton, outdoor seating on a great patio with very friendly wait staff and they easily accommodate 6-30 people for different events I've had there. Only downside is service is very slow, even for 8 people, but if you have time to enjoy the evening and chat with friends, this is a great restaurant.
We sat on the patio and had a great time watching the street scene . The Margaritas we had were great I cant remember the name as there are so many to choose from. The food was delicious including the tortilla soup, carnitas, enchiladas. They had many seafood entrees and a very different pleasing menu. The portions are very substantial. I would definitely come here again the next time I am in Pleasanton.
This place is always worth the 40 minute drive time for us. They offer some really special Mexican dishes that you won't get anywhere else, and some that are just the best of their kind. Cocktails are great and you can have a margarita custom made from their long list of tequilas. It's a fun place and in the right weather, sitting outside is an amazing treat. Try the 100 year old chicken recipe - it's to die for.
Have eaten here several times. The food and ambiance were outstanding as each time in the past. The one disappointment on this night was after excellent service throughout the meal, we could not get the waiter to pick up our tab to pay. After waiting 15 minutes, and seeing another table get their bill, pay and get their receipt, I had to go up front to pay.
We will still visit again in the future.
We go to Blue Agave a few times a year. It is consistently great food. All the help is kind, funny, and efficient. It is not the cheapest dinner you can have, but it is worth the price. The ambiance is great being able to eat outside is an added treat, plus it is in downtown Pleasanton!
This is the second time we've eaten here in the past three months. The food is varied and delectable. I especially like dining outdoors during the summer months. The margarita choices are extensive as well. We recommend it to anyone looking for a great Mexican restaurant in Pleasanton.
Last night was the first meal in a long time at BA - a little surprised at the prices - - food prep and presentation pretty well fit the price point - but, still a bit expensive, even for upscale Mex food. That said, our meal was terrific. The outdoor dining area is a major benefit at BA. We'll definitely be back.
My wife and I are addicted to Blue Agave Club, and in truth, it think that played some part in our relocating to Pleasanton. Best during the outdoor eating season for its great patios front and back, we never get enough of this place. Biggest complaint is that occasionally one of our favorite items will get rotated off the menu to be replaced by a new favorite. Amazing margaritas, awesome steak dishes, great table salsas...the list of notables goes on and on. If you like higher-end Mexican food experiences, you REALLY need to try this place!
I had Trinity enchiladas w/ Huitlacoche Sauce and added chicken. BTW It's 2 enchiladas. Have you ever had enchiladas without tortillas? No b/c enchiladas are fillings wrapped in a tortilla and having eaten enchiladas of every sort for....50 years and I have never seen or tasted ones like this. I even asked the waiter---are enchiladas fillings wrapped in tortillas? YES. But my enchiladas came with a "filling" that was a 1/2 inch wedge of un-melted cheese with no tortilla wrapper. The chicken was strips laying on top of a wedge of cheese that I had to cut/saw and and on top was a pile of black bean sauce-----NOT huitlacoche corn sauce. Not only did it look bad it was bad and over-priced at $20.95 + $4.95 extra for chicken. I told the waiter politely it was the worst plate of enchiladas I have ever had---with no tortilla wrapper and to pass my comment to the chef. He asked if he could sub a different dish and I said No. He took the meal off the bill. BTW the guacamole was only so- so but the CHIPS were very good--hearty---whole meal corn---the salsa good. The hibiscus margarita also "girlie" good. Will not be back.
Food is very over priced. Tables are bare without a table cloth. For what your paying, there needs to be more ambiance. The crab enchiladas were a pate that reminded me of a can of cat food. They need to prepare the meal using real crab meat. Very disappointing. Won't being going back anytime soon.
I ordered the shrimp. Fairly fishy, but what bothered me is there was virtually no seasoning. My girlfriend's quesadilla with zucchini tasted like a child's bland grilled cheese sandwich . The service was very utilitarian, not friendly, but not unfriendly. The bill was ridiculous. Just under 200 dollars for my girlfriend and I. We did have a couple of margeuritas but not enough to stumble from. I loved the atmosphere outside but am not willing to go back.
Started hosting business meetings here years ago, and frequently come just casually with the family or friends. Service is great, the tequila list extensive, the food interesting AND very tasty. The lunch special menu tends to the usual dishes - all prepared and presented well. There are other options, but I like the combo plate. The dinner menu is a little more adventurous with house specialties and more. Highly recommended.
One of my favorites of all time, anywhere, and I travel globally, and have for many years. the tortilla soup qualifies as very likely the best soup I have ever had anywhere. It's a departure from traditional which is bland and boring, so people don't know to order it, but you MUST order it. they even have queso fundido which is hard to find outside of Mexico. For mains, the camarones emperador, the sabana de pollo and blue agave steak are incredibly special. Enjoy.
Good for drinks only. Service was slow. Drinks were 38 dollars for 4 well margaritas. Enchiladas were covered in a sauce that was absolutely disgusting and I had a bad reaction to. I have no food allergies and have lived in El Paso for over 5 years and have had all types of Mexican restaurant experiences. This was the worst from a food stand point.
1. 3% "employee health care" fee added to bill total. Most establishments wrap these fees in the cost of the meal. Insulting!
2. There were flies everywhere, very disgusting,
3. Rude and inattentive service. Pushy waiter. Staff seemed angry, and this common behavior was seen at other tables.
4. Appetizer delivered cold, and meal served when barely halfway through appetizer.
5. Bus boy dropped fork onto my wife's purse, which then landed on the floor. No apology or effort to pick it up.
6. Prices very high for sloppy service.
7. Quality of food - I am familiar with Yucatan food, and this was below average. The presence of all the flies made us think their kitchen has the same problem.
There are much better restaurants in this area, suggest you go somewhere else.
Best Mexican cuisine in Pleasanton, and the best I've found in the surrounding area. I'm a regular, will continue to be so. Large tequila selection, best mole I've ever had as well. Bonus points for the nylon string guitar player who plays sneaky "Spanish guitar" versions of classic rock favorites. Thumbs up! Will remain a regular as long as they continue their excellence.
