Blu Seafood and Bar Ratings and Reviews
Blu Seafood has great seafood--fresh, well-prepared and much of it local. The clam chowder and crab cake were both outstanding--lots of crab, very little filler and nicely spiced; the clam chowder was the right level of creaminess, tender clams and clearly had a great stock as its base. My only complaint is the service can be slow. I was one of the only customers and yet had to wait over 5 minutes for a server to take even stop by to welcome me or take my drink order. I will go back, but the service needs to be much more attentive for me to become a regular.
Excellent! I have never been for lunch and decided to go for lunch with a friend that I had not seen in 18 months. We loved the food- creative and delicious. The service was great. The restaurant was quite accomodating when we sat visiting after we were done with our meal. It was comfortable and quiet. The crab sandwich was really good and my friend loved the fish tacos.
I will be back.
Blu is an all-around good restaurant. The food is always delicious, and the "Blu plate specials" are an especially good value. They do not always have soup, including the clam chowder I love, so don't expect to be able to order it at all times. But there are plenty of other good menu choices. I find the service to be friendly and efficient. I mainly go there for lunch, and it is quiet and homey--you can have a good conversation with a friend.
Made a very last minute reservation and had a short window for dinner. They got very busy just as we arrived but they handled the rush pretty well. The only glitch was a dish that came warm but not piping hot, which was remedied quickly. We had to eat and run so we didn't have time to enjoy the hospitality. All things considered, a very good dining experience.
Blu has been a neighborhood favorite of ours since it opened. The food was outstanding, as always, but I have to say to service this visit was pretty "uneven" - once seated, we waited quite a while for somebody to bring water and greet us, the entrees didn't come out together, etc. It was a busy Saturday night, but I have come to expect better.
We have been dining at Blu since it opened and have always enjoyed our meals. There are always specials off the menu which are often quite good. The seafood is always fresh and well prepared. The prices are reasonable and the wine list is not extensive but good. Highly recommended (as is the "sister" restaurant, Primal Spirits.
My husband and I visited this restaurant for the special occasion of treating our daughter, a student, to a special night out. There were so many delicious sounding menu options it was hard to decide. We opted for the sheep-head fish dish, paella and the mushroom plate. All were excellent. Our server was quite helpful and attentive.
The food was well prepared, reasonably proportioned, and very good. The night's special was excellent. However, if you're wanting oysters and you're given a choice between NC oysters and any other oyster, go with any other; NC's were like licking a salt lick.
There is nothing to absorb the sound in the main dining area, so it is uncomfortably loud when full. One table with 2 hard of hearing men was so loud, surrounding patrons struggled to hear their own conversations. Glares appeared to encourage them to be even better heard.
Parking: very limited, get there early. I definitely will return. When I do, I'll make reservations for sure, come early for parking options, avoid NC oysters and order the night's special.
Blu Seafood was celebrating their 10th anniversary with half price appetizers and $6/doz. oysters. We have appreciated them ever since they opened. Delicious seafood prepared expertly with creative flavors. And I must mention the famous crab mac & cheese with truffle cream and prosciutto.
Our night at Blu was fantastic! Some of the best seafood I have had locally or otherwise. Everything was perfectly seasoned, the wait staff was very at tentative, and we truly felt like it was dining experience that we hope to have again and again. The prices are reasonable considering the quality of the experience, I highly recommend Blu!
I was so disappointed in this restaurant. I chose it for four of us to have dinner before going to DPAC. I was looking forward to some good seafood. I started with a Caesar's salad. It is the worst one I have ever had! Ice burg lettuce...what seemed like packaged grated cheese and barely any taste to the salad dressing. My partner and I decided to share the paella. Too bad I have been to Spain, had the real thing, and even have made it several times. The rice base was in a gooey tasteless sauce...not exactly the wonderful saffron rice of true paella. Service was slow at first. The server was very nice, but the meal for everyone was a big disappointment.
